When COVID-19 arrived in Britain and my sixth form class was unable to do the exams, I was left to find my own future, but my options were limited. Thanks to the careers talks prior to COVID, I was able to open a door of opportunity at Ansbury Guidance. Working along side the Ansbury Advisor, I was able to understand some of the normal jobs that one might find in an office environment: creating work documents for team members and information documents for public consumption; how to work in a team environment, going from an anxious worker to a reliable worker; operate the franking machine; putting letters together while organising them for sending; finding a further opportunity at the Dorset History Centre and using various technical applications (Microsoft Word, Google Drive, Zoom, One drive) for my work on the Bulletin. Thanks to the Ansbury Advisor that I worked with, I was able to do stuff that I did not believe I could such as speaking on their behalf on both BBC Radio Solent and Dorset Breakfast (at 7:05 and 8:10 on 3rd March 2021), as well as working independently on the Ansbury Opportunity Bulletin (which involved collating Dorset-wide vacancies in to one document). In order to do this I researched various websites for age appropriate opportunities suitable for youths, adjusting fonts, recalibrating tables and understanding how to create links that others would utilise. Ansbury Guidance has helped at every step of the way and I could not have achieved so much without them.
