Sermon

Acts 5:1-131 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

TRUTH FOR TODAYHow little we think that our heart was actually created that God might live there, that He might show forth His life and love there, and that our love and joy might be in Him alone. How little we know that just as naturally as we have the love of parents or of children filling our hearts and making us happy, we can have the living God, for whom the heart was made, dwelling there and filling it with His own blessedness and goodness.

- Andrew Murray (1828 - 1917)

Missionaries to AfricaCalvary Baptist Church has seven missionary families in Africa: the Aldermans in Togo and Benin; Karie Ferguson will soon be going to Côte d’Ivoire; the Nunes in the Cape Verde Islands; the Shumakers in Burkina Faso; the James in Tanzania; the Waters in Zambia; the Waughs in Zimbabwe. Below is a summary of one of these missionaries, and their latest prayer requests.

Above is a photo of Joseph & Brittany James, with their two children, Leighton & Judah. The James have been missionaries for 3.5 years in Tanzania, East Africa. Their ministry is called Grace Mission and includes the James and several other missionary families. This ministry conducts an internship program for new con-verts to reach others in their community. The outreach teaches Bible studies in home church settings. After a year of Bible study, some of the interns eagerly went and conducted Bible studies in ten local homes. Grace Mission also helps with financial training and farming. The ministry purchased a large farm that is used to sustain the interns and their families. Sis. Brittany is a nurse and with the help of two Tanzanian Christians, Joseph & Elizabeth, they have a women’s health and medical outreach. In the James prayer letter, they ask for prayer concerning new laws being adopted that affect foreigners’ permit visas, one law restricts foreigners to a 5 year stay in the country. The James and several other missionary permits are up for renewal in July.March Suggested ReadingSpiritual Growth: E. P.
