CÔTE D’IVOIRE — Larry and LeAnn Sellers first met this skinny little boy when they brought a work team from Indianapolis, Indiana, to his home village to help the believers in this predominantly animist village finish their first building. Quiet and polite, Salomon was ready to help wherever he was needed.
When he was ten, his father sent Salomon to secondary school in the city of Korhogo, because his village only had a primary school. In Korhogo, Salomon became actively involved in a strong congregation of the Church of God; in his eight years there, he was active with the youth, led worship, and preached on occasion. Fluent in French and local languages, he frequently translated for the local pastor and for missionaries preaching and teaching in the area.
At seventeen, he scored high marks on his university entrance exams and moved to Abidjan, the largest city in Côte d’Ivoire, to continue his education. Over the next four years, this young boy overcame severe bouts of illness, the death of his father and destitution of his family, and the constant struggle in the big city to complete his studies. Through it all, he was faithfully involved in a new church plant in the city.
In 2015, Salomon was one of fifteen students to pass an entrance exam to be trained as a commercial pilot for the national airline, out of a thousand applicants. At the age of 22, after a year of theoretical studies in the capital city of
Yamoussoukro, where once again he was active in the local Church of God congregation, he is on his way to France to complete his pilot’s training.
Salomon, born to illiterate parents, is the first of his family to finish university. And missionary Larry Sellers notes that he is the only person known to have been actively involved in five different Church of God congregations in three different regions of the country. Salomon credits God for all of his success and perseverance. He is one of the bright stars for the upcoming work of the Church of God in Côte d’Ivoire.

BANGLADESH — In 2010, when the picture below was taken, Ramjan, Sima, and Swapan had just finished eighth grade. What is remarkable is that none of them live within twenty miles of a school! Through the “Invest in a Village” project, all three were able to come to Kakina village to attend school. While there, they were housed, fed, loved, and introduced to Jesus through the project. Bangladesh is a country with less than .5% Christians, but the Church of God is making a difference.
Today, “Invest in a Village” is impacting the lives of over 2,000 children in seven different locations throughout Bangladesh. Though some of the children they serve are Christians, they also care for Hindus and Muslims, reaching out with the hope of Christ in tangible ways. The 80+ Church of God congregations across the country are involved in many types of ministry including church planting, evangelism, childrens ministry, hostel programs, child sponsorship, and primary and secondary education.
And the program is making a difference. Instead of farming small plots in their villages, Sima and Ramjan are university students, having qualified for government scholarships.
Swapan also qualified, but chose to go back to his village where he now works as a motorcycle mechanic. Their future is different because the Church of God in Bangladesh chose to invest in their lives. Tapan Borman, national leader for the Church of God in Bangladesh, has a desire to see this program expand further into rural Bangladesh to change the futures of the children.

HAITI — Mark and Kathy recently were in a remote village in Haiti as part of a medical team through the St. Ard Hospital.
Outreach using mobile clinics is an important encouragement to the community and the Church of God pastors in the area. We can easily see about 400 people in the course of one day. My job at one point was taking blood pressures, one after another. I tried to connect with each patient with my somewhat broken Kreyòl, asking about their day or about their family. I greeted one woman in her fifties. As I looked down past the blood pressure cuff, I saw her shoes. My shoes. She had on a pair of shoes identical to ones I own. Black, quilted patterned with patent leather accents, covered in dust that had accumulated as she walked the great distance to come to the clinic that day. I thought about how my shoes had carried me to shopping malls and restaurants. Then I thought about how this lady’s shoes had carried her to the village market to buy her fresh produce and raw meat, and to the stream to collect her water. I thought about how our pairs of shoes had carried us to our own churches on Sundays. I thought about how we as moms had raised our babies, loved our husbands, and worried about our grown kids, as moms all do. I thought about how we are just the same, and yet we each have such a unique story to tell.
And I thought about the body of Christ. We are different, yet united. One is an eye, the other is an ear. We each are here on this earth with a different story, with different gifts and talents, but with the same need for love and acceptance. And Christ is the one who unites us all, who loves without limit, who celebrates our differences for the unique ways that they can come together to better the body.

BERLIN, GERMANY—The ministry of Pink Door Berlin is one part of the solution to injustice in Europe—“to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” as we’re commanded to do in Micah 6:8.
Sexual exploitation and human sex trafficking are not easily explained in our church culture, but they are a reality of our world today. In contrast to Micah 6:8, they are not right, certainly not merciful, and are the epitome of pride, arrogance, and greed. The Global Strategy team in Europe and the Middle East is committed to reconciliation and redemption of those victimized by these heinous crimes of injustice.
“What are your dreams for your future?” Rhonda asked. Silence.
“What would you like to do with your life now that you are free? You know, a goal for your future?” Again silence.
Finally came a stuttered response: “I… I can’t do anything.”
No hopes and dreams. No sense of value. This young girl saw herself as others had always seen her—an object, a disposable commodity, a means to fulfill selfish, warped desires. Molested since she was a young child by a family member, her will broken by violence and exploitation, and then groomed for prostitution, she had come to believe THAT was her purpose. Independent thinking and dreams of something more from life had been ruthlessly eliminated. So hope died.
In the nurturing environment of Pink Door, where she is valued and where people of faith walk alongside her each step of the way, this young girl has discovered that, deep down, she possesses courage, strength, hope, and faith in the One who created her.
God calls us to see our own brokenness, which prepares us to see beyond the brokenness of others, without judgment or prejudice, and join in God’s mission of reconciliation.
Because of the light of abiding faith in God, we are able to carry that light into very dark places.

PARAGUAY—In Paraguay, a Christian school is making a big impact on kids and their community. Timothy’s School, named after the late son of Norberto Kurrle, provides schooling for kids ages two to first grade. In a country that is only 7% evangelical Christian, it may seem strange to open a Christian school, but the response has been tremendous. The school leaders see a hunger in the community for Christian education, and people, Christians and non-Christians alike, are bringing their kids. The school started in February 2014 and attendance has steadily risen as they add a new grade each year. In 2015 the school had 36 kids, but at the start of this year they are welcoming 61 into their doors! The school also employs 12 staff members. Timothy’s school is the fourth school the Church of God has started in Paraguay, the earliest dating back to 1984.
Though the school is certainly making an impact in the lives of the kids who attend, it is also a light to the community at-large. This past year, Timothy’s School was invited for the first time to participate in the District Day parade. Staff and students were able to proudly march, carrying a banner with their school logo and the name of their city, Obligado. The banner read, “Obligado, city blessed by God.” Timothy’s School continues to bring life-change to kids while also being a light to their community. The Church of God in
Paraguay is making a difference and the hope of Christ is being heard.

CBH SWAHILI:
The economy of Kenya is spiraling downward. Students in boarding schools are burning them down to express their lack of hope. Amid this chaos, CBH Swahili is receiving texts (60% of the total) from high school students asking for prayer that God would overcome the evil and also for help with their academic needs.
One student, Amos, writes: “After listening to your CBH program, I went on my knees and pleaded to God to forgive us for the sin we have committed of blurring our future.”

“How I love your radio. More than twenty years and I am not tired of listening. I came to God through your programs. When I started listening I began to think about God. My life at times has been very mixed up; my family broken; the suicide of my son at age twenty-six. It was all a life without God.”

A
The ministry of the Church of God to the Native American reservations has been a work in progress for many years. It seeks to reach Native Americans in Arizona, Nebraska, South Dakota, Idaho, and Washington State. Faced with unusually high rates of domestic abuse, unemployment, suicide, and hopelessness, these ministries are in great need of support.
In the last four years there has been a renewed interest in this vital ministry. In cooperation with the American Indian Council of the Church of God, overseen by First Chief Maureen Woodman, Domestic Ministries of the Church of God, led by Handel Smith, is revitalizing this aspect of Home Missions of the Church of God.
The American Indian Council, along with the missionaries currently on the field, has a deep concern and commitment to seeing the work on these reservations revitalized. It is urgent that the Church of God begin to know and partner with these great missionaries and Native American leaders to enable them to accomplish and expand their work among these great Americans by making Jesus the subject of their lives on a daily basis by being the love of Christ among them.
In order to accomplish this goal the American Indian Council (AIC) in 2015 developed this mission statement: “Expressing the love of God by practicing the ministry of presence, building meaningful relationships, loving without hurting, working and partnering to disciple the lost.”
Please pray that the leadership of the AIC will effectively work together to develop Christ-centered leaders and missionaries to do God’s will on the reservations. Also, be in prayer that new Native American leaders will hear the call of God to serve in this work. In addition to these two very important needs, pray that missionaries, council leaders, and Native American leaders will find a spirit of cooperation and respect for each other and for the cultural differences among us. Pray that we can find systems and programs that are effective and can be replicated throughout the work.

Church of God Ministries is dependent upon the cooperation and support of the church at-large as we distribute the funding that is so vital for worldwide ministry. In the spring of 2016 we announced a significant change in the way these funds will be received and distributed.
After extensive research into best practices of Christian nonprofit organizations, and reviewing the recommendations of ECFA, we have come to the conclusion that our former funding model produced unsustainable promises. Previously we assumed that designated gifts could be applied to projects and ministries at 100% and that other undesignated contributions would be su�cient to cover all administration and support services for these ministry recipients.
This proved to be wrong over time. Why? It’s very attractive to donors to promise that 100% of their gift can be applied to a project or need and that there will always be strong undesignated support for the basic budget to underwrite the administrative costs. This simply was not happening. It was a wrong assumption. Our research revealed the model the vast majority of Christian nonprofit organizations have adopted is to safeguard a small percentage of designated gifts to cover the administrative support for each ministry. We have settled upon a 15% designation of all gifts to be safeguarded for administration and fundraising costs.
The 15% designation does not completely cover all of these support costs and thus, strong support of the Reach Our World Fund is still needed. Thankfully, there are many churches and individuals who provide basic, undesignated support for our ministries. This positive change aligns our Movement with current best practices and positions Church of God Ministries with greater financial strength as together we make Jesus the subject in our Movement and to the world.
Sometimes our o�ce is asked for guidance in the matter of financial support for the Church of God Ministries budget. In 2012 the General Assembly of the Church of God passed a resolution recommending that congregations contribute a standard 5% of their annual income to this approved budget. By supporting the ministry financially, you have the opportunity to Join the Movement not just prayerfully and ideologically, but also pragmatically and sustainably.
