General Description

General DescriptionThe emu3/emu3ACO updates the previous IPE eMu2 PDU range.

The emu3/emu3ACO is a twelve-output power distribution unit with an embedded web server to allow IP control. The standard model, in intelligent mode, can be set as a Master or Slave; the Automatic Changeover (ACO) model can failover between redundant supplies.

All units contain an embedded web server, that enables continuous remote control and monitoring via the IPE Dashboard. They can be daisychained to other EMU3 units to provide up to 48 outputs via a single IP connection. In the event of a Master unit failure, simply move the Ethernet connection to a secondary unit, which then automatically becomes the new Master.

Units covered by this documentThis document describes the following units:

• emu3

• emu3ACO: 12-PMU Redundant power unit with automatic switchover (ACO)

Features• Sequential Switch On: Each unit can be set up to have sequential switch on to prevent switch-on power surge.

• Power Shedding: Each output can be programmed to switch off when the unit is in a power saving mode.

• Remote Control: All outputs can be switched on or off via the IPE Dashboard web page.

• Output Monitoring: Front panel and web monitoring of status of output and fuse.

• Email Alerts: PDUs can be programmed to send email alerts when certain events occur. Each output can be programmed to send an email on detection of a fuse failure.

• Temperature Sensor: Rear panel connector for optional linked external temperature sensors. Critical temperature alerts can be sent via email.

• Current Measurement: Overall current consumption can be monitored via the IPE Dashboard web page.

Installation Instructions

Installation InstructionsThis section explains how to install and connect your emu3 system.

Changing the Master emu3 IP addressBy default, all emu3 units are configured with an IP address of 192.168.0.209. This address is in the space reserved for private networks. If you are daisychaining multiple emu3 units in a Master/Slave setup, only the Master unit is directly connected to your LAN (the Slave units are controlled from the Master’s LINK OUT port).

You will only need to change the default IP address of your Master emu3 unit in the following cases:

• There is already a machine on your network with the IP address 192.168.0.209

• Your LAN uses a different IP address space

If neither of the above applies, you can go straight to the next section, “Install the units and make earth connections” on page 10.

To change the IP address space of your Master unit:

1. Configure a standalone PC (i.e. one not connected to your LAN) with the IP address 192.168.0.1.

2. Connect a CAT5e cable from the standalone PC to the LAN connector on the rear panel of your Master unit.

3. Connect an IEC mains power cable to the MAINS connector on the rear panel.

4. Plug the cable into a wall outlet and switch on.

If you are using an emu3ACO, you only need to connect one power cable, e.g. to the MAINS A connector.

5. Open a web browser on the standalone PC and enter the url 192.168.0.1

The Login web page should be displayed. If it does not, wait a few moments and refresh the web page.

6. Enter the user name and password these are both set to admin by default) and click Login. This will display the Overview page of the IPE Dashboard.

15 Fused +5V dc

• The opto isolator inputs are NOT polarity dependent. Operating voltage is 5Vdc to 30Vdc (12Vdc nominal).

• The 5Vdc output available on the connector is current limited and is designed to only operate the input opto isolators.

• The absolute minimum operating voltage is around 3.6V, so driving them from a 5V supply via an open collector output is not reliable.

• Since the minimum operating voltage is low it is possible that, for a high DC supply (e.g. 15V and above), driving the opto via an open collector output may cause the opto to not turn off reliably, due to the residual voltage within the circuit.

Performing a factory reset or software upgrade

Performing a factory reset or software upgradeThis section explains how to reset or upgrade an emu3 or emu3ACO unit using an appropriate USB stick supplied by IPE Ltd.

WARNING!!: Since both operations essentially use the same procedure (and file name), be sure to use the correct USB stick:

• Factory Reset USB stick: This clears out any configuration settings (e.g. power-up sequence) and puts the unit back to the factory build state; Please note, any outputs that were turned off when the reset is applied will stay turned off: the factory default for power-up sequence is for outputs to return to their last state.

• Software Upgrade USB stick: This upgrades the unit to the latest software release.

Proceed as follows:

1. Power up the unit.

2. Wait for the LAN LED to flash.

3. Ensure the unit is available in the IPE Dashboard web application.

4. Insert the appropriate USB stick (Factory Reset or Software Upgrade) into one of the front panel USB ports.

The 12 channel indicator LEDs will sequence on/off from left to right to left, then flash on/off together.

5. When the flashing becomes regular, remove the USB stick.

6. When the LEDs stop flashing, the unit starts up its network procedures and will be available for use in the IPE Dashboard.
