Moorside helped out in the annual effort to raise money for Children in Need once again this year. Students participated in a non-uniform day to raise money for the charity. They were also delivered a presentation in form time that documented where their money went, and how it helps change the lives of many other disadvantaged children across the UK. Some Students wore yellow and spots to support the charity. Some students even dressed in a Pudsey bear onesie and whilst others painted their face! Year eight had an out-of-this-world experience at the national space centre in Leicester. The centre is an interactive museum with exhibits based around space exploration, including a huge rocket and a collection of items and materials used in training and on mission by astronauts from all round the globe. Highlights included a 3D star model, programmable Mars Rover, a vacuum-training space walk game, a hammer for use in space (it's not as simple as you think!) and a 'space suit' worn by Matt Damon (a different kind of star!) in the thriller adaptation of The Martian. The students had a wonderful time enjoying the atmosphere of the centre, which also supported their understanding of forces for Science lessons. For the second year running, 7F have organised a shoe box collection of presents for children who are less fortunate than themselves. The operation saw members of Moorside collating gifts for a child from a conflict stricken area, who may not have a Merry Christmas full of wonderful gifts. Mr Tatton made up two boxes with his form. He said that it is ‘an amazing charity’, and this sentiment was reflected across the whole school. The boxes looked wonderful under our tree, and it was a good opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas – a time of giving, generosity and being thankful for what we have. Well done to 7F and all the students who participated in this fantastic cause. 52 boxes were sent off to those in need! Operation Christmas Child – Shoebox appeal Well Done to Year 11 for working so hard for their mock exams. They will receive their results on the Mock Results Day on 17 January 2019. Thank you to everyone included in the Christmas Carol Service, it was fab-u-lous. It has been a long term and I think we all need a well deserved rest. Have a great Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

7F enjoyed a hair raising day at Manchester Science and Industrial Museum. As part of their work in Science and Electricity, 7F had the opportunity to visit the new electricity exhibition at the museum. This included: a tour through the ages of science, a look at a big live circuit diagram demonstrating the currents running through Manchester and a

chance to experience lots of interactive displays, such as building a light up Lego towers and domino circuits. The children were able to make lots of connections between what they had learnt at school and the museum, in fact they came back with a battery of resources. After

the exhibition they switched from one part of the museum to another and had the opportunity to see what life would be like to work in the cotton mills, visit the locomotive and the aircraft exhibition. After they visited the museum it was time to go

OHM, which they put up a lot of resistance but, they all conducted themselves excellently

For the second year running Moorside High was represented by Megan Wold and Aimee Swann at Sound Foundations Live at The Mitchell Arts Centre. Both girls

stole the show with their stunning performances of two Adele numbers. Mr Meakin was there to witness the proceedings and later tweeted, ‘what a proud

music teacher he was’. Both girls sung beautifully and were an absolute credit to Moorside High.

Sport Hall Athletics: A great and at the same time frustrating afternoon. From the 6 schools entered, Moorside finished runners up to Woodhouse Middle School in all categories. A brilliant effort for the students who behaved impeccably. Year 9 Sports Leader students ran a sports event for local primary schools, which was successful; well done!Futsal results:Year 7 team: 3rd place Year 8/9 team: 1st placeNotable performances: Ellie Clowes scored 15 goals in 4 matches. The year 8/9 team will now go through to represent Staffordshire moorlands in the Staffordshire schools finals.

The year 11 awards evening was a fabulous evening where we got see our fantastic Year 11s again! The results this year that were achieved speak for themselves and it was great to celebrate their success with them! A special mention to Georgia Barnett who achieved the Ben Thorneycroft Award and Matthew Nixon who achieved the Shining Star Award. Well done Year 11 - you did us all incredibly proud.
