API RP 2D - Offshore Pedestal Crane Operator

AIM & OBJECTIVES

The aim of this module is to establish that the delegate has the required underpin-ning knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of API Offshore Pedestal Crane Operator safely & effectively.

The objectives of this module is to highlight that the dangers of crane operations in the offshore environment cannot be overemphasized. Delegates that attend this course will leave with a more thorough understanding of the critical elements of lifting and moving loads and personnel safely in an offshore environment.

This module follows API – RP – 2D 7th Edition Requirements.

CERTIFICATION

Delegates successfully meeting the API Offshore Pedestal Crane Operator assess-ment requirements will be issued with an API Offshore Pedestal Crane Operator certificate for the crane(s) on which they have been trained and assessed. Certifi-cate is valid for four years.

The successful delegate shall also be qualified to perform crane inspections, with the exception of the initial, quarterly and annual inspection.

Successful delegates will also be issued with a wallet card.

Where a delegate DOES NOT MEET the required assessment outcomes, no certifi-cate will be awarded and the delegate must retake the API Offshore Pedestal Crane Operator assessment.

PREREQUISITE

01. Delegates must be qualified as an API Rigger/Slinger/Banksman or Level 3 Rigger.

02. Delegates must meet the following physical qualifications:

• Have vision of at least 20/30 Snellen in one eye and 20/50 in the other with or without correction, and have depth perception as demonstrated by record of a recognized test administered by an authorized medical person.

• Be able to distinguish red, green and yellow regardless of position of colours.

• Have hearing, with or without hearing aid, adequate for the specific oper-ation.

03. Delegates must select which of the following two crane types and/or sub-types they require qualification for:

• Operation of Mechanical (Friction Type)

• Operation of Non - Mechanical

• Hydraulic

• Electric

04. For this course all delegates are required to provide their own protective cloth-ing (ie) hardhat, safety boots, safety glasses & coveralls etc.

Who Should Attend?

Personnel who are responsible for the safe operations of offshore pedestal cranes.

AIM & OBJECTIVES

This module is designed for all rigging and lifting personnel who require to demon-strate a competence in the Rigger/ Banksman/ Slinger role. The recommended practices identify the basic competencies and safety training required by the Offshore/Onshore Oil & Gas Industry for personnel involved in rigging and lifting operations.

This module follows API – RP – 2D 7th Edition Requirements.

CERTIFICATION

Delegates successfully meeting the API Rigger/Slinger/Banksman Assessment requirements will be issued with an API Rigger/Slinger/Banksman Certificate of Competence which is valid for 4 years.

Successful delegates will also be issued with a wallet card.

Where a delegate DOES NOT MEET the required assessment outcomes, no certif-icate will be awarded and the delegate must retake the API Rigger/Slinger/Banks-man Assessment.

Lifting Authority (Competent Person) Assessment

AIM & OBJECTIVES

This aim of this assessment is to evaluate the competence of a company spon-sored applicant who has been recommended to take on the role of Lifting Authority (LA).

This module incorporates RP-2D 7th Edition requirements.

CERTIFICATION

Applicant successfully meeting the API Lifting Authority assessment requirements will be awarded an API Lifting Authority Certificate which has no expiry, provided the person is continuously working in this position.

If a person has not worked in this position for a period of two years he/she must once again be put forward by his employing company for assessment.

APPLICANT PRIOR ACHIEVEMENT

It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the applicant is ready to be assessed and has:

01. Suitable and relevant experience in both crane operations & hoisting and lifting operations involving the use of portable lifting equipment.

02. Knowledge and experience of:

• API - RP - 2D, LOLER, PUWER & HASAWA requirements

• Safe Systems of Work

• Assessment of personnel

• Management of personnel

• The inspection of lifting equipment

• Safe use of lifting equipment

• Management of rigging lofts

• The planning of lifting operations

• Risk assessment

PREREQUISITE

• Attendees will verify compliance with JTN Medical Screening Form

• The LA applicant must have theoretical knowledge and operational experience to select the appropriate lifting equipment and plan how it should be used

• Determine the suitable levels of supervision for the lifting operations and be able to verify / manage the contents of the rigging loft (or equivalent).

• For this course all delegates are required to provide their own protective cloth-ing (ie) hardhat, safety boots, safety glasses & coveralls etc.

Acting Lifting Authorities requiring competence assessmen or as a follow up to CLMHE 017.

Delegates successfully completing the API Offshore Pedestal Crane Inspection (Friction Type) programme will be awarded an API Offshore Pedestal Crane Inspec-tion certificate for:

• Mechanical (Friction Type) Cranes

This certificate deems the inspector qualified to perform: initial, pre-use, monthly, quarterly and annual inspections, and is valid for four (4) years.

Successful delegates will also be issued with a wallet card.

Where a delegate DOES NOT MEET the required assessment outcomes, no certifi-cate will be awarded and the delegate must retake the API Offshore Pedestal Crane Inspection (Friction Type) assessment.

AIM & OBJECTIVES

The aim of this module is to impart to the delegates the necessary knowledge & skills required of a Pendant Controlled Gantry Crane Operator.

CERTIFICATION

Delegates successfully completing the Pendant Controlled Gantry Crane Operator programme will be awarded a Pendant Controlled Gantry Crane Operator certificate which is valid for 3 years.

PREREQUISITE

• Attendees will verify compliance with JTN Medical Screening Form

• For this course all delegates are required to provide their own protective cloth-ing (ie) hardhat, safety boots, safety glasses & coveralls etc.

Who Should Attend?

All personnel operating or working with pendant controlled gantry cranes.

Location

Tower Crane Operator

AIM & OBJECTIVES

The aim of this module is to impart to the delegates, the basic knowledge & skills required of a Tower Crane operator.

CERTIFICATION

Delegates successfully completing the Tower Crane Operator programme will be awarded a Tower Crane Operator Certificate which is valid for three years.

PREREQUISITE

• Part of the content of this course includes tower climbing. Therefore it is cru-cial that delegates are not afraid of heights to the extent that they are unable to carry out this activity.

• Attendees will verify compliance with JTN Medical Screening Form.

• For this course all delegates are required to provide their own protective cloth-ing (ie) hardhat, safety boots, safety glasses & coveralls etc.

Who Should Attend?

Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those wishing to refresh their skills.

AIM & OBJECTIVES

The aim of this module is to provide the delegates with a better knowledge and understanding of the legal and practical requirements in running an operational rigging loft.

Cargo Carrying Unit (CCU) Transit Inspection

AIM & OBJECTIVES

The aim of this module is to provide delegates with the required skills & knowledge to inspect various cargo carrying units prior to shipment in compliance with BS EN 12079 & DNV 2.7.1, 2 & 3.

Although a theory session is presented, the emphasis of this module is practical examination.

CERTIFICATION

Delegates successfully meeting the CCU Inspection assessment requirements will be awarded a certificate of attendance which aids in addressing the various legislative requirements placed upon employers to ensure their employees are competent.

PREREQUISITE

• Attendees will verify compliance with JTN Medical Screening Form

• For this course all delegates are required to provide their own protective clothing (ie) suitable hardhat, safety boots, safety glasses & coveralls.

• Attendees must have a Slings & Lifting Set Inspection certificate.
