General DescriptionTWAIN is a standard for connecting software applications to imaging devices such as scanners, digital cameras, and MFPs.

Once this software is installed, scanned images that have been saved in boxes in a device can be acquired by a computer via a network connection.

The following describes the procedure for acquiring, by using a computer, image data scanned and saved in a box in a device. You can acquire images using TWAIN compatible applications, or you can start the Network TWAIN Driver from the Windows start menu to acquire images.

Operating the Network TWAIN Driver

Acquiring Images from a Device

Starting the Network TWAIN Driver from an application:Select To Import Folder… from Acquire Image in the File menu of the application that is to acquire images.

Note: If the Network TWAIN Driver is already running, the message dialog box <Network TWAIN Driver is already running. Cannot run two or more.> is displayed.

In this example, the Quick Image Navigator is used as a sample. If you are using the another application, please refer to the operating instructions for details.

Starting the Network TWAIN Driver from the Windows Start Menu:Click start All Programs (Programs for Windows 2000) Panasonic Panasonic Document Management System Network TWAIN Driver.

Note:If the Network TWAIN Driver is already running, the message dialog box <Network TWAIN Driver is already running. Cannot run two or more.> is displayed.

After the message dialog box <Searching…> appears, the available devices are displayed.

Select a device, and then click OK.

Note: To skip this screen the next time the Network TWAIN Driver is started, select [Don't show device selection screen.]. To change search conditions for devices, display the search settings screen by clicking Setting.

The box list stored in the selected device is displayed.

Select the desired box number, and then click OK.

Note:To skip this screen the next time the Network TWAIN Driver is started, select [Don’t show next time. (When device selection screen omitted)].

Multiple users can access the box. Be careful not to access other user's box and acquire/delete files from the box.

A list of files in the selected box is displayed.

Select a file, and then click OK.

To select multiple files at one time, select files while holding down the [Ctrl] key or the [Shift] key, and then click OK. To select consecutive multiple files, use the [Shift] key. To select inconsecutive multiple files, use the [Ctrl] key.

Note:If the Network TWAIN Driver is started from an application, note that the file format may be changed, when storing images, depending on the settings of the application you are using.

If the Network TWAIN Driver is started from an application in step 1 go to step 5aIf the Network TWAIN Driver is started from the Windows start menu in step 1 go to step 5b

Other users can access the box. To avoid other users from acquiring/deleting files from your box, it is recommended that you acquire and delete the files from the box immediately after you scanned/saved important data.

The following two methods can be used to delete files from the box. Deleted files cannot be retrieved.- By selecting [Delete the extracted file.]: If this option is selected, files are deleted from

the box after they are acquired. If Cancel is clicked in the message dialog box before the files are acquired, the file acquisition is canceled and the files are not deleted from the box.

- By clicking Delete: You can delete unnecessary files by clicking

this button after a file is selected. I f acquir ing/delet ing f i les from the box, carefully confirm <Name> and <Last modified> displayed in the file list so that the wrong image is not acquired/deleted.

<If the Network TWAIN Driver is started from an application in step 1>

If [Show message when two or more files selected.] is selected with multiple files selected, click OK when the message dialog box <Multiple files are acquired as one.> is displayed.

After the message dialog box <Acquiring> is displayed, the image acquisition to the TWAIN supported application is complete.

Note:The Network TWAIN Driver automatically exits depending on the image application you are using. If the Network TWAIN Driver does not automatically exit, click Cancel to exit the Network TWAIN Driver.

<If the Network TWAIN Driver is started from the Windows start menu in step 1>

The selection screen for the folder to save the file is displayed.

Select a folder to save the file, and then click OK.

After the message dialog box <Acquiring> is displayed, the file is saved in the specified folder.

Note: You cannot change the file format when saving to a folder. The file is saved to the folder in the same format as when it was in the box of the selected device.

The file formats that this software can save in are listed below. However, for files in the PDF format or TIFF format, only the files generated by the machine are supported. - PDF - TIFF - JPEG

If either of the following conditions is met, this screen is displayed first when the Network TWAIN Driver is started: If [Don’t show device selection screen.] has never been selected (this option is not selected by default) If it is the first time the logged in user has started the driver

You can skip this screen if the following conditions are met: If you exited the Network TWAIN Driver with [Don’t show device selection screen.] selected If the device selected with the above option selected is successfully accessed

If you exit the Network TWAIN Driver with [Don’t show device selection screen.] deselected, this screen is displayed the next time the driver is started.You can also stop skipping this screen in the following cases: When you click Select device on the box selection screen to return to the device selection screen When you fail to access the device selected with [Don’t show device selection screen.] selected, and click Select device in the displayed message dialog box

Note:If you fail to access the device selected with [Don't show device selection screen.] selected, the following message dialog box is displayed.- Retry: Click to try accessing the selected device again.- Select device: Click to display the device selection screen.- Cancel: Click to close the message dialog box.

1. Device Search Results ScreenDisplays the devices found. The model name, location, and IP address of the device are displayed. You can sort the files that are displayed by each item. You can select only one device from the devices displayed. If all of the devices found cannot be displayed, you can scroll to display the rest of the devices.To select a device, select the desired device, and then click OK.If the search results are 0, the message dialog box <0 devices found.> is displayed.

2. Don’t show device selection screen.Select this option to skip this screen the next time the Network TWAIN Driver is started. Once you start the driver, it accesses the device selected with this option selected and displays the box selection screen or the file selection screen.

3. SettingDisplays the search settings screen to specify search conditions.

4. ReloadSearches for devices again, and updates the Device Search Results Screen.The message dialog box <Searching…> is displayed while searching for devices. Clicking Cancel cancels the search for devices.

5. OKClick OK after selecting a device.If the number of devices found is 0, this button is grayed out.

6. CancelExits the Network TWAIN Driver.

1. Box Search Results ScreenDisplays the boxes found in the selected device. The box name and the number of files saved in the device are displayed. You can sort the files that are displayed by each item. You can select only one box from the boxes displayed. If all of the boxes cannot be displayed, you can scroll to display the rest of the boxes. To select a box, select the desired box, and then click OK. If a connection cannot be established with the selected device, the message dialog box <Could not connect the specified device.> is displayed.

Clicking Cancel cancels the search for boxes. If a connection cannot be established with the selected device, the message dialog box <Could not connect the specified device.> is displayed.

5. Select deviceReturns to the device selection screen.

1. File ListDisplays the files stored in the selected box. The file name, the date and time the file was updated, the file size, and the file type are displayed. You can sort the files that are displayed by each item. If all of the files in the box cannot be displayed in the screen, you can scroll to display the rest of the files.You can select multiple files at the same time. To select files, select the desired files, and then click OK.

2. Deletetheextractedfile.Select this option to delete the selected files after they are acquired. During file deletion, a message dialog box indicating that deletion is being executed is displayed.

3. Showmessagewhentwoormorefilesselected.Select this option to display the message dialog box <Multiple files are acquired as one.> when selecting multiple files. If [Don’t show this message next time.] is selected in this dialog box, [Show message when two or more files selected.] is deselected.

If the Network TWAIN Driver is started from the Windows start menu, this option is grayed out.

4. ReloadSearches for the files in the selected box again, and updates the File List. If images are scanned with the machine when the Network TWAIN Driver is started, the File List must be updated by clicking Reload.The message dialog box <Searching…> is displayed while searching for files. Clicking Cancel cancels the search for files.

5. DeleteDisplays a message dialog box for confirming file deletion. If deletion is approved, deletes the selected files in the box. During file deletion, a message dialog box indicating that deletion is being executed is displayed.

6. Box selectionReturns to the box selection screen.

7. OKClick OK after selecting a file.If a file is not selected, this button is grayed out.

8. CancelExits the Network TWAIN Driver.

The following screen is displayed when Setting on the device selection screen is clicked.

The driver is compatible with both IPv4 and IPv6. You can select a range of IP addresses (IPv4) or directly specify an IP address (IPv4/IPv6).

2. Range – IPv4Enter the first IPv4 address/last IPv4 address. Only IPv4 addresses can be entered.

3. IP Address – IPv4Enter an IPv4 address. Only IPv4 addresses can be entered.

4. IP Address – IPv6Enter an IPv6 address. You can also enter a scope ID. IPv6 addresses can only be used if you are using Windows Vista or later.

5. AddAdds IP addresses to the IP address list.

1. Add IP Address to searchSelect this option to search for devices from the list of specified IP addresses.Deselect this option to search all equipment connected to the same network as your computer for devices.

Note:If OK is clicked without changing any settings after Add IP Address to search is selected, no changes are applied to the IP address settings.

6. DeleteDeletes an IP address from the IP address list.

7. IP address listDisplays the IP addresses added by clicking Add.

8. TimeoutSets the amount of time before a connection is timed out when searching.

9. OKApplies the settings. If you have not performed any operations after opening this screen, this button is grayed out.

10. CancelCloses this screen without applying any of the settings.

Note:If the total number of IP addresses specified in [Range-IPv4], [IP Address-IPv4], and [IP Address-IPv6] exceeds 255, an error message is displayed.

Troubleshooting

TroubleshootingThis section describes potential problems, and corrective actions as well as the system requirements.

Problem Corrective action

Devices cannot be searched for.

There are no boxes displayed in the box selection screen.

Confirm that the connection cable (Ethernet LAN cable) is connected correctly. Confirm the Community Name that is specified. Confirm that the Community Name is the same as the Community Name specified on the device. For details, refer to the Operating Instructions (For Device Explorer and Embedded Web Server).

Boxes with files stored do not exist. If [Show empty boxes] is deselected, empty boxes are not displayed.

Scan images with the machine, and store files in the box.
