I must firstly thank our families for their ongoing support and understanding of processes and procedures we have rolled out during the last fourteen weeks. There will be some elements of the COVID period we will be happy to see the back of (like missing parades and being close to our friends) and some that we’ll keep (like the new knowledge of TEAMS and One Note to support our teaching and learning). Moving into Term Three there will be some more changes to operating guidelines. We are still required to restrict entrance to the school for non-essential adults. This means that parents are able to enter the school if they are attending a pre-arranged meeting only. We will recommence sector parades but are unable to have any spectators. Our Parent-Teacher interviews will proceed at the back end of the term with physical distancing in place; parents wishing to have their meeting over the phone or via an online platform should make these arrangements with their child’s teacher. We will continue to communicate changes as they are made available and encourage families to contact the office if there are questions. Our report cards will be emailed home on Friday the 17th of July. As previously communicated, due to COVID-19 interruptions, our reports have been modified to reflect four learning areas. Our students have continued to be engaged in a variety of subjects however we have only assessed English, Math, Science and Music for Semester One. Our Parent-Teacher interviews will provide families with the perfect opportunity to gain greater insight into progress and next steps for children. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the ongoing effort and commitment from our staff. Our staff have been under immense pressure to learn new ways of delivering content, new methods for keeping in contact with families and have been challenged to manage students at school and working at home simultaneously. As always, please ensure your contact details are up-to-datewith the ladies from the front desk. Have a great and very safeholiday everyone. See you next term – Mark

ACTING DEPUTY PRINCIPAL - DAILENEACTING DEPUTY PRINCIPAL - DAILENECLARKECLARKE

As we roll into the holidays there are manysmiling faces at school who are excited tohave a break and proud of theirachievements this term. This week ourPreps have stepped up to the challenge ofwalking into school and off to class bythemselves or with a friend or two. This isa true indication of resilience that our students at GBSS are ableto display in what has been different times for everyone involvedin school drop offs.

During this week our Prep’s to Year 2’s have enjoyed theirexperiences of a range of activities to celebrate Under 8’s Daywith a difference. In Prep we had many Teddy Bears cometo visit and enjoy a picnic lunch, while the year 2 studentswere able to stay warm in the chilly weather with their PyjamaDay. Year 1 enjoyed celebrating a range of rotations on theirFantastic Fun Day with Bots, Coding, Drama and outdoorgame. This was a wonderful way to end a very alternate Termat school for our younger students.

Over the past two weeks I have had the pleasure of steppinginto the role of Acting Deputy Principal. Connecting with thestudents out at the gate and around the grounds at lunch timehas shown me how happy our students are to be at such aninteractive school. Thank you all students, parents and staffwho have made my experience positive and rewarding. MrBaillie will be back into his regular role after the holidays.

Stay safe on your holidays and we will see your smiling facesback at school on Monday 13th July 2020.

BOUNCE BACKBOUNCE BACK

This week’s Bounce Back Skill is:

Keep things in perspective. Sometimeschildren see small problems as big onesin their lives. They can dwell on themand this sometimes feeds anxiousthinking. It’s ok to take a step back andremind our child the problem they’reexperiencing is small and not a bigproblem.

Cheers,

Nathaniel BrownGuidance OfficerGolden Beach State School
