Keep hands, feet and loose clothing away from moving parts. 5. Always stop the equipment to carry out lubrication and servicing. 6. Check machine before starting for worn or damaged parts. Check that all nuts and bolts are

tight. 7. If machine is left unattended, ensure that unauthorised use is prevented. 8. Never leave the machine unattended whilst in use. 9. Consider the use of safety barriers, especially when used in public places. 10. Beware of pinch points involved with rotating components, e.g. rope/cable drums, and,

shafts. 11. Keep feet away from hydraulically operated lifting arms. 12. Some component and assembly parts are in excess of 32kg (70lb). When lifting care must

be taken, ensure sufficient man power/lifting gear is available, to prevent personal injury and damage to the machine.

13. Stay clear of cables or lines under tension. 14. Only use the machine for its intended purpose. 15. Ensure the drum shaft-locking collars are secure at all times. 16. 2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The CBS 711 Drum Stand is compact in size and is constructed from rigid steel sections, it is simple to assemble and easy to operate. The Drum Stand has been designed in sections that can be dismantled for ease of transportation. The drum stands in the range are capable of handling drums from 600 mm diameter up to 1900 mm diameter with a maximum width of 1300 mm Drum lifting is achieved with two manually operated hydraulic jacks. The drum spindle is fitted with sleeve type bushes or needle roller bearings to ensure easy removal of cable from the drum. Various sizes of drum collars are available to suit drum shafts from 51 to 80 mm diameter, larger sizes are available on request.

4. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

THIS EQUIPMENT MUST ONLY BE USED BY AUTHORISED PERSONNEL, WHO HAVE BEEN SUITABLY TRAINED AND COMPETENT TO DO SO.

THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE TO BE MADE AVAILABLE TO OPERATORS OF THIS EQUIPMENT AT ALL TIMES, FAILURE TO OBSERVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY AND / OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. .

4.1 The CBS 711 drum stand should be sited on firm, level ground. 4.2 Assemble the drum stand if dismantled, note: The drum stand side

frame assemblies should not be carried by the drum support arm, (the hydraulic jack piston may be pulled out of the jack body).

4.3 Remove the drum-retaining collar from the drum shaft.

4.2 Locate the drum shaft assembly into the drum and fit the drum locking collar.

Tighten the retaining screws to secure the drum.

4.4 Refer to the instruction diagram on the jack body for information on how to operate the hydraulic jack.

4.4 With the lifting arms in the lowered position, roll the drum into the drum stand.

Ensure that the cable or rope will be pulled from the top of the drum. Locate each lifting arm pocket to the drum shaft by raising each lifting arm using the lifting jacks.

4.5 Continue operating the lifting jacks until the drum is raised clear of the

ground and safety props locate into position (sitting on top of the jack body), note the lift arms must be raised evenly to ensure that the drum remains as level as possible, if this is undertaken by one person then each lifting arm must be raised in sequence lift by small increments.

4.6 To withdraw the drum, raise the lifting arm sufficient to withdraw the

safety prop, then lower the lift arm slowly to the ground, if this undertaken by one person the lift arms must be lowered in sequence in small increments until the drum is fully lowered.

4.7 Roll the drum out of the drum stand.

4.8 Remove the drum-locking collar and withdraw the drum shaft from the drum. 4.9 Refit the drum-locking collar onto the drum shaft and replace the drum shaft into

the drum stand.

All persons using, operating or maintaining this equipment must be adequately trained and competent to do so.

3.1 The CBS 711 drum stand should be sited on firm, level ground and should then be anchored in position.

3.2 Locate the drum shaft into the drum and fit the drum locking collar. Tighten the

retaining screws.

3.3 Refer to the diagram on the jack body for information on how to raise and lower the lifting arms.

3.4 With the lifting arms in the lowered position, roll the drum into the drum stand.

Ensure that the cable or rope will be pulled from the top of the drum. Locate each lifting arm pocket to the drum shaft by simultaneously raising each lifting arm using the hydraulic jacks. When correctly located, continue operating the hydraulic jacks until the drum is raised clear of the ground.

3.5 To withdraw the drum, this procedure may be reversed.

3.6 To withdraw the drum, this procedure may be reversed. Care should be taken to

ensure that the drum weight is taken by the hydraulic jacks before removing the support prop-retaining pin.

NB. The hydraulic jacks should be raised just enough to remove the prop support retaining pins without exerting pressure on the lifting arm.

5. MAINTENANCE THIS EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A LONG AND USEFUL LIFE PROVIDING CERTAIN PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES ARE TAKEN. 5.1. Before putting into service for the first time or dismantled from previous use, check that

all parts are present and assembled correctly. 5.2. Before using, check that the hydraulic jacks operate smoothly. Check the condition of all

retaining pins, replace if damaged. 5.3. When finished using, wipe the drum stand down with an oiled cloth. Lightly grease the

pivot points with general-purpose medium grease. 5.4. Ensure that the hydraulic jacks are lowered as far as possible and apply a thin layer of

grease around the joint between piston and body. 5.5. Store in clean dry conditions. 5.6. If this equipment is left outside for any extended period of time, it would be advisable to

protect against atmospheric corrosion by applying grease to unprotected surfaces. This applies in particular to the hydraulic jack piston if it is left extended.

5.7. Once a month apply oil to oilite bushes or grease to the drum shaft bearing, (which ever

is applicable).
