FIRST FILM FESTIVAL AT FERMILAB IN NOVEMBER

The Fermilab Inter/National Film Society will present six unique film programs November 13-16 in the Fermilab Auditorium. During this mini-festival selected films from the 11th Chicago Film Festival, which will run in Chicago at the same time, will be brought to Fermilab and the showings will be open to the Fermilab community and to the public without charge in some cases, or at a nominal charge in others.

October 30, 1975

The Chicago Film Festival is the only large-scale festival devoted to improvement of the entire spectrum of film production. Entries in the Chicago Festival include not only entertainment films, but educational films, videotapes, film strips, and experimental films. The portions of the Chicago Festival to be offered in the Fermilab program include 24 selections from the categories of science films, short subjects, films made by students, a feature film, and films made by and for children.

The mini-festival at Fermilab will include subjects for all ages and tastes. The Festival offers educators, for example, an opportunity to preview films which they may wish to use later in their classrooms. Students of film production also use the Festival as an opportunity to view many kinds of film production. For the average film goer, the Festival brings a varied menu of good entertainment.

Category 16 of the Chicago Film Festival (physics, space science, and mathematics) will be judged by a jury chosen by ~he Fermilab Inter/National Film Society. The judging will take place at Fermilab on Sunday, November 2, when the jury will spend the day evaluating the entries.

The Library now has an index of the slides and photos in the Fermilab Photo Unit. In this new Contact Print Index, slides and photos are listed on cards under 70 general interest areas such as "Central Laboratory," "Energy Doubler," "Magnets," etc. The card lists the photo negative numbers, whether the negative is in color or in black and white, and the dates taken. There may be many listings on each, indicating photos taken on different dates. There may also be more specific sub-descriptions, such as "Magnets --Lambertson."

Using these numbers, a requestor then refers to an adjacent loose leaf notebook where 8~ x 11" sheets of contact prints appear in the numerical order of the negative file. An order form can then be filled out specifying the negative and frame number, the size and kind of reproduction desired, and the budget code to be charged for the order. A normal order is completed in a week to ten days.

Further information on the new system is available from Roger Thompson in the Library, CL-3 Crossover, Ext. 3401.

PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Ferrnilab employees can take advantage of the convenience of payroll deduction to carry out their obligations to charity. Forms for arranging these deductions will be distributed with the October 31 payroll checks. Employees may give to one, two, or three charities by payroll deduction; at least a total of $12 must be given per year to use this plan.

Employees alone decide which charity or charities they will give to; there will be no personal solicitation by fund representatives inside the Laboratory. On a special section of the Atrium bulletin board employees may advertise a favorite charity, giving this information to other people at Ferrnilab.

Call Janet Gregory, Ext. 3324, for further information about the charity drives.
