    Isometric Manager Styles

    Isometric Manager Styles

Isometric Drawings generated in different project stages have to meet different

requirements. We will address the different isometric styles.

The Isometric Configuration tool enables you to set a Default Isometric Style forthe whole project.

If different Isometric Styles are to be used for Isometric Drawing generation,

Design States have to be mapped to these styles.

    Isometric Manager Styles

You can define as many isometric styles as required. Isometric Style features can

    be set by:

    • Using the Isometric Configuration tool.

    • Customizing configuration text files located in the project Workspace

    directory.

Isometric Style setting using the Isometric Configuration

    tool

There are three dialogs available to change the Isometric Style features. They are

the Isometric Style dialog, the Isometric Drawing Attributes dialog and the Label

    dialog.

The Isometric Style dialog enables you to specify basic parameters.

    • Graphical Configuration tool: This field is used to start an OP Modeler session

and to customize the isoseed file used for creating Isometric Drawings.

    • Completed Isometric Design State: This parameter specifies which design

state to set piping components when an Isometric Drawing is created and

    placed into ProjectWise.

    Bill of Material

    Module Overview

A Bill of Material is automatically generated during the Isometric extraction

process. An administrator will need to modify which properties should be

included in a Bill of Material and to customize their layout on an Isometric

drawing based on the company requirements.

    Module Prerequisites

    • Students should have completed the OpenPlant Modeler User course.

    • Students should have a working knowledge of MicroStation.

    • Students should have understanding of OpenPlant Modeler.

    Module Objectives

After completing this module, you will be able to:

    • Modify a report definition file.

    • Modify a seed file to customize the Bill of Material layout.

Project driven drawing output and Bill of Material Definitions

Isometric Extractor reports – Bills of Material (BOM) - are generic reports that

operate on component properties and are an integral part of each Isometric

drawing. This BOMs can contain any database information connected with a

piping component existing on an Isometric drawing. Generated reports are plaintext files that can be attached to a text node in an Isometric drawing.

A BOM is defined for each Isometric Style separately.

See Appendix 1 for full description of the Report.def file. The file is very well

    commented.

Exercise 1: Customization of the file Report.def

The goal of this exercise is to include the property MATERIAL in a BOM

generated on your Isometric Drawings defined by the Isometric Style IFC.

    1 Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenPlantModeler

    V8i\WorkSpace\Projects\OPModeler_Metric\DataSet\Isometrics\Styles\I

    FC\Config.

    2 Open Report.def  with a text editor.

3 Navigate to the section REPORT = SHP, which writes shop material to a

    report

    Note:

Column definition has the following syntax. :

    COLUMN = : :

    Where

specifies the width of the column in character positions

    is a combination of:

    L left aligned

    R right aligned

    C centered

W wrap, a new line will be added if the length of the expression

exceeds the width of the report

is an expression for the content of the report column.

Any component attribute or string can be used. Example:IE_DESCRIPT + UUID + "and a string" would concatenate the atributes

IE_DESCRIPT and UUID and the string "and a string"

6 Repeat steps 4 and 5 in the section REPORT = FLD which writes field

    material to a report.

    7 Close Report.def .

Changes done in the Report.def file must be followed by changes in a seed

file used for Isometric Drawing generation. This will be done in the next

    exercise.

Exercise 2: Configure Bill of Material layout

When a user customizes the Report.def file it is also necessary to make

corresponding changes in the file Isoseed.dgn, which is a seed file used by

Isometric Manager to create Isometric drawings. Mostly it means to change a

heading of the Bill of Materials.

The goal of this exercise is to customize a heading of a Bill of Material to

include the property STOCK NUMBER added to the BOM definition in the

    previous exercise.

    Questions

1 True/False: The Allow to Create Folders option enables to create a new

root folder to store Isometric Drawings.

2 True/False: Each Iso Sheet has to have a Design State defined. When you

set the Allow Design State Switching option to True Design State

automatically changes to the next state as specified by pre-defined

workflow when you generate an Isometric Drawing from it.

3 True/False: If the Delete document from system after posting option is

checked the Iso Sheet used for an Iso Drawing generation disappears from

the list of IsoSheets available for processing.

    Answers

1 False: The Allow to Create Folders option enables automatic creation of

subfolders below the Isometric Root Storage folder inside ProjectWise.

Subfolder structure is specified by the Property Storage Path assigned to

    the Class Name Iso Sheet.

2 False: Each Iso Sheet has to have a Design State defined. When you set the

Allow Design State Switching option to True for a project it is possible to

specify the Completed Isometric Design State value for each IsometricStyle. Next time you generate an Isometric Drawing a Design State of Iso

Sheet automatically changes to a state as specified for this Isometric Style.

3 False: If the Delete document from system after posting option is checked

the generated Isometric Drawing disappears from the list of generated

Isometric Drawings when posted to ProjectWise. If this option is not

checked the generated Isometric Drawing does not disappear from the list

of generated Isometric Drawings when posted to ProjectWise. Just the

Progress Message is changed to Isometric Posted Successfully.

Generate PCF files for passing data to legacy systems

The Isometric Manager can create a PCF file as a by-product during the Isometric

drawing generation. These PCF files can be used by other applications. The

Isometric Manager offers several options and features connected with PCF file

    generation.

    Exercise 1: PCF Files Generation

The Project Configuration tool enables you to specify if a PCF file will be

generated with an Isometric drawing or not. If the Allow PCF File Generation

value is set to True a PCF file will be generated. If it is to False a PCF file will

    not be generated.

This exercise will show you how to configure Isometric Manager to generate a

    PCF file.

1 Select Tools > Configuration or click the Configuration icon.

    2 Select Project.

3 Expand the PCF Generation Section window.

4 Select True from the Allow PCF File Generation field, if not already

    selected.

Note: False doesn't allow PCF file generation.

Another parameter which can be set for a project by the Isometric

Configuration tool is called Can Post PCF to ProjectWise. The value specified in

this field enables or disables sending generated PCF files to ProjectWise. If the

Can Post PCF to ProjectWise value is set to True a PCF file will be posted to

ProjectWise together with a generated Isometric drawing. If it is set to False a

PCF file will not be sent to ProjectWise.

5 Select True from the Can Post PCF to ProjectWise field, if not already

    selected.

The last value to be set in the PCF Generation section is Stop Isometric

    Generation if PCF Fails.

If the value specified in this field is set to True an error during a PCF file

generation will cause termination of an Isometric drawing generation.

If the value specified in this field is set to False an error during a PCF file

generation does not influence an Isometric drawing generation.

6 Select True in the Stop Isometric Generation if PCF Fails field.

    7 Click Save.

    8 Click Close.

The Isometric Configuration dialog is closed.

Exercise 2: Viewing and exporting of a PCF Files

1 Select an Isometric drawing, right-click and select PCF File.

Note: Create a new Isometric drawing before step 1 if none is currently

    available in the Isometric Manager.
