CONSIDERATIONSGallup poll: PASD teachers are in line with the rest of the country

CONSIDERATIONS
• Stakeholders want a "return to normal":
• Students and their parents want in-person instruction, even at 6 ft social distancing;
• Faculty and staff miss in-person instruction, but have concerns about safety
• Mental health and social-emotional wellbeing are being impacted by the stress of COVID.
• The learning gap has widened during COVID. It is easier to understand and address the learning gap in person.
PA COVID Map by county
CONSIDERATIONS
CONSIDERATIONS
Chester County COVID cases—last
30 days
On Aug. 4th—5 new cases were
reported in PASD—2 in Phoenixville
borough, 2 in Schuylkill, and 2 in
East Pikeland
Considerations – Need to test
Medical advisors to the PASD Pandemic Plan recommend:
• Regular testing – Pool Testing –by homeroom (not yet approved by Department of Health, nor available)
• Ability to conduct tests at school
• Results within 2 days or less (current turnaround is up to 14 days)
CONSIDERATIONS
What is the likelihood of infection?
From the New York Times:
• As schools grapple with how to reopen, new estimates show that large parts of the country would likely see infected students if classrooms opened now.
Discussion
Administrative Recommendations
-Virtual K-12 opening for the first marking
period (October 31st)
-Start the re-evaluation process on October 1stto make a final decision for marking period 2 by
October 9th
-Provide in-person instruction for
individuals or small groups of students,
based on student need
