Opening of the Borders in Opening of the Borders in PortugalPortugal
Biology 10.º Year Serpa
Will we always continue isolated of remaining portion of the Europe?
Will we go to develop our Economy being a part “of” Spain ? ?
Portugal was one of the greatest powers of the World.
It was the starting point for the civilized World. But, after
many years of bad politics management and
disorganization, we started to be the “tail of the Europe”, not for the geographic localization but for the economic crisis. It
is in our hand the future of our country…
…and for this we must receive with open arms the Spanish investment in our country.
Thanks to the opening of the Portuguese borders, the country is suffering a modernization in the agricultural sector (land exploration).
Main Borders
• Quintillha• Valença• Vila Real de Sto.
António• Elvas• Ficalho• Vilar Formoso
We are going to talk
about the border between Ficalho and Rosal of la Frontera( near Serpa), that is
perhaps the most important
Alentejo border
Ficalho and Rosal: Joined by history and
blood
“To go underneath” or “to the return” there are two expressions that people from Ficalho and people from Rosal still know today very well. It is part of its identity of bordering peoples, separated from many years by a politic barrier . The distance is only five Km of road, and these are not enough to clean the deep affinities - economics, cultural, historical and familiar
But, although the commercial advantages ( being explored by the bordering peoples and states), there are things that they never change (borned in the proximity that became natural in the cases of lasting friendships and families joined for married blood).
“Before” and “later”…
Rosal and Ficalho had always counted with each other for the development of their local economies.
After years of commercial and economic importance, Portugal lefts of being the exporter to start to be the
importer.
It means…
Now we are (Portuguese people),the ones who have to pass the border in search of accessible products, because our “Spanish neighbors” have better economy and conditions of life.
The Schengen Agreement was instituted in 1985 by Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, France and Germany. The purpose was to create an area without trip restrictions, eliminating the bordering controls between the participant countries and creating a bigger cooperation in the combat the transnational crime. Later the Agreement of Schengen was incorporated in the agreements of cooperation with the UE and includes currently all the countries of the Union with the exception of Ireland and the United kingdom
