Evolving to Better Serve the Needs of our Community

In 1988, our founding core of

volunteers developed the

agency because there was a

need in our community to

help single women with

children experiencing

homelessness.

When HEARTH moved from

Benedictine Place to

HEARTH HOMES in 2013,

the agency expanded from serving 15 families to 20. A

community need was

recognized and HEARTH

evolved to meet that need. And

in 2015, after 20 years of

“opening doors to families in

crisis”, the agency recognized

that a majority of the families

the doors were opened for, were

victims of domestic violence.

So we have once again evolved

in order to better serve the

community and fulfill a need so

desperately needed by our

Program Participants

and their families. We

are constantly evolv-

ing at HEARTH, and

will continue to

evolve so that we will

always be serving our

families to the best of

our ability. In a safe,

secure location, with 20

single family apartments

on site at HEARTH

HOMES, the families

who come to us are

surrounded by a safety

net that allows them to

begin picking up the

pieces. At HEARTH, the

families become

independent and

self-sufficient, enabling

them to end the cycle of

dependence and abuse.

The families have the

use of resources such as

a clothing and food

pantry, a sports court, a

garden, and a

playground. They have

on-site staff

support, community support

through our non-profit

partners, and access to a

wonderful school district.

HEARTH evolves because our

families need us to. We know

that each and everyone of you

will also evolve as the agency

continues to meet the needs of

families in crisis, now and in

the years to come.

HEARTH Happenings . . .

HEARTH held a 20th Anniversary Reunion for our former Program

Participants and their families on Saturday, August 1, 2015. So much fun

was had by all that now they’d like to have one every year!

Volunteers from KFMR came to HEARTH for a “Done in a Day” project,

helping paint the meeting room on the 2nd floor. It looks brand new!

The Girl Scouts made welcome baskets for our incoming families, wrapped

birthday gifts, decorated for the holidays, took down decorations after the

holidays, wrapped more birthday gifts, finished their garden and definitely

so much more!

St. John Neumann Youth Group once again held a “spooktacular”

Halloween party for the families at HEARTH October 2015.

The Norwin Show Choir performed their hearts out at HEARTH at the

annual Holiday Party. Of course a Holiday Party isn’t complete without a

visit from the man in the red suit!

WBN raised more than $1,000 for HEARTH at their Holiday breakfast.

WYEP held the Alternative Souper Bowl for HEARTH on Super Bowl

Sunday with one of the largest turnouts in it’s 16 year history.

Job Corp came to HEARTH and helped organize the food pantry with all

the food collected from the Alternative Souper Bowl.

While guest bartending, HEARTH’s Associate Board watched the National

Championship game at Sidelines in Millvale, raising nearly $900 for the

agency.

HEARTH Capital Campaign Contributors

On Wednesday, September 30, 2015, guests gathered to taste incredible food and sip delicious wine all while

raising funds for families, who are survivors of domestic violence and experiencing homelessness.

This year’s event

Grossed nearly $47,000!

And what an incredible night it was.

VIP guests began arriving at the Children’s Museum at 5:30 p.m., where they received preferred parking. They

were greeted with passed hors d’oeuvres as they entered the Studio, enjoyed special wines for the next hour as

The Skipper Johnson Band played in the background.

When the doors opened at 6:00 p.m. for guests Steel City Memories (sample photos above) began capturing the

night as guests were suddenly transported to the beach, to Paris, the pyramids in Egypt and much more. The night

was topped off with an incredible silent auction to bid. Of course, HEARTH representatives spoke to everyone

thanking and reminding them of the importance of their participation to help our families become independent

and self-sufficient.
