Dangjin's famous places to visit in December The Sin-ri Shrine

by Lee, SangbaeKorea Culture News

Catholic martyrs often visit Sin-ri Shrine located in Hapdeok-eup, Dangjin to find relief themselves.

This place is a historic site for Bishop Daveluy of Sin-ri Shrine. Daveluy, the fifth Bishop, used to live here during the late Joseon Dynasty.

The Sin-ri Shrine was once a secret place of Catholic missionaries when the believers often suffered perse-cution by political issues and specific events. However most of them stepped into the path of martyrdom with their own will.

Upon entering the shrine, relaxing scenery comes to mind.

At the chapels, you may see the names of martyrs including Bishop Daveluy inscribed with their por-traits and words to the wise.

There is a martyrdom art museum in Sin-ri Shrine which is the one and only in the country. The museum was opened in 2017 in commemoration of its 150th an-niversary of the martyrdom and a total of 18 works are exhibited.

Up to the ground after exploring the underground museum, there is a Beogeunae Pilgrimage that leads from Sin-ri Shrine to Solmoe Holy Ground. Walking on the pilgrimage route, you will be able to see through yourself and become generous on anything in your mind.

Even if you're not a Catholic, you could feel very calm and relax in this place. This place is where believ-ers go on a pilgrimage and pray but now it is also known as one of the famous tourist attractions in Dangjin City. You won't feel alone among the sculp-tures all around the relaxing environment.
