Updates in OpenFOAM
OpenFOAM : next steps
2nd OpenFOAM Belgien Users Meeting, 17th March 20162
• New solvers : New reactingTwoPhaseEulerFoam and reactingMultiphaseEulerFoam solvers for cases with 2/several fluid phases, with multiple species and in-phase reactions.
• Implemented local time stepping (LTS) as a selectable option in each solver that previously had a separate, specialised LTS version.
• Add-ons in fvOptions for solid body motion, MRF, temperature modelling as well as rotor disk.
• Modifications in blockMesh to speed up and to improve usability.
• Bug fixes and some architectural changes.

Updates in OpenFOAM: OpenFOAM+
OpenFOAM : next steps
2nd OpenFOAM Belgien Users Meeting, 17th March 2016
• Added value in all areas of OpenFOAM: meshing (Automatic gap finding and refinement, Improvedfeature lines detecion) ,
• Improvements in parallelization:• Decomposition of surface STL data for meshing.
• New redistributePar utility, to decompose, reconstruct and re-distribute parallel cases reducing memory requirements.
• New features in boundary conditions:‣ PeriodicAMI for repeating, non-conformal geometries
‣ Humidity boundary condition

• New features in physics:‣ Solar model‣ Diffusion combustion model‣ New DES models (based on kOmegaSST and
updated Spalart-Allmaras)‣ New combustion models and solvers (moving
mesh, lagrangian, etc).
• New features in numerics:‣ New velocity damping to aid solver
sobustness during start-up of the solutionprocess.
‣ New Hybrid discretisation scheme forDES/LES applications, enabling the solverto switch between different numericalschemes. (acknowledging CFD Software E+F GmbH)

• New features in post-processing:‣ Automated picture extraction
• No need to download completemodel&results files.
‣ Run-time case termination based on userstatistics.
‣ Enhanced EnSight export in transient runs‣ Enhanced options to report forces&moments, as
well as summary of fluxes through components.
• Quality assurance is done by means of consistent development process and thorough testing:‣ Unit tests, to ensure that the new
developments did not break any other functionality.
‣ Medium size tests, monitoring performance and resources required.
‣ Industrial regression tests, to support the release process.
