NEWSLETTER TERM 1, WEEK 6 2020
Committed to ‘Nurturing confident, lifelong learners, in a friendly rural community.
OPEN THE DOOR TO LEARNING IN
YEARS 3 AND 4
Students in the combined Year 3/4 class have been out
and about for maths looking at shapes in our world and
creating and solving number patterns using addition.
In English, students have been looking at character
descriptions (and using adjectives), settings and the senses
to improve their writing pieces. Using a ‘colourful’ stimulus
material provides opportunities for ‘colourful’ writing.
Thanks Years 3 and 4 for sharing your learning.

We got what we all wanted!
Hearing the rain on the tin roof was just the most beautiful
sound – and I think that we were all very thankful for the
amount of rain we received. It seemed to be a very long
time in coming.
HOWEVER, it meant that our ‘Getting to Know You’
welcome barbecue needed to be rescheduled.
The barbecue will now be a luncheon on the last Friday of
term, Friday 27th March at 12.30 pm. ‘Official’ class will end
at 12.30 pm and then we will have an activities afternoon
until around 2.30 pm – the close of term 1.
We would like this to be a dress up day for both parents
and students. Prizes will be awarded for the best Easter bonnet and the best ‘rabbit’ costume. Extra
points will be awarded to creative costumes made at home! The Gruffalo need not participate – just
bunnies please!
I also thank the staff for providing activities before school and at morning tea and lunch for what was
already a very long and wet couple of days.
THANK YOU … to the P&F once again for their fabulous
luncheon (Mexican food bowl!). Lots of hard work but we
all appreciated it.
THANK YOU … to Bruce Uebergang for cleaning out the
school gutters in the pouring rain to ensure we had full tanks.
THANK YOU … to Shelley for the beautiful chocolate
Brownies.
Three Way Learning Conversations Thank you so much to the staff who put in the long hours over the past week (actually the entire term)
to facilitate learning conversations with our parents – and in some cases our students. We had
approximately 73 out of 106 families take advantage of the learning conversations for which we are
incredibly thankful.
Just a point to note: term 3 will be a departure from these Parent Teacher Interviews particularly for
Years 4 to 6. In term 3, we will be focusing on 3 Way Learning Conversations, where students are present,
and they present their own learning strengths, improvement areas and goals with samples of
work. Students will have had time to prepare for the 3 Way Learning Conversations and will be able to
show examples of work products and talk about their own assessment of the work products
presented. This is an opportunity for students to speak confidently about their learning in a supportive
environment and be part of the assessment framework rather than just a receiver of assessment.

From little things …Year 6 Leadership Team WHS visit!
Firstly, Oxley Primary School would like to take the
opportunity to thank Andrew McLean and the
teachers of CLC at Wangaratta High School for
inviting us along to present our ‘wish list’ of
projects to the Year 9 CLC students.
Our 6 leaders presented to the Year 9 students
projects such as: Mud Kitchen, Gardening Shed,
Aquaponics/Hydroponics plans, outdoor
blackboards, Music Wall spaces, frog breeding
ponds and activities/games boards (painted on a
large scale). I have to congratulate our students
who – whilst very nervous about the speaking to
such a large audience, rose to the occasion and
spoke exceptionally well. It is no easy task talking
in front of a large group of Year 9 students – particularly those you don’t know! Very proud moment!

ABOVE AND BEYOND OUR
GREEN ZONE! Meet Amelie. Amelie Booth is in
Year 3. We have received 2
separate phone calls about
Amelie going ‘above and beyond’ in our community. Both phone
calls were about the way that Amelie went about nurturing our
younger students and ensuring that, when they were feeling a little
intimidated about ‘big school’, with her guidance and support,
school wasn’t so scary after all.
Thank you to the two community members who took the time to
phone in about our
wonderful young Oxley
PS ambassador.
Congratulations
Amelie. You have received the
Oxley Primary School
Strong Student – Outstanding Care Award.
