A 4-point response clearly demonstrates understanding of the task, answers all parts of the question, stays focused throughout the explanation, provides textual support (cites the text), expands on the citation by explaining how it is connected to the answer. The answer is extended with a connection to another text, the world, or

personal experience.

3A 3-point response demonstrates an understanding of the task, answers all parts of the question, and provides some explanation using textual support (cites the text).

2A 2-point response may answer all parts of the question, but demonstrates a limited understanding of the task, and may be missing textual support or uses the text incorrectly, resulting in a weak or confusing explanation.

1 A 1-point response does not answer all parts of the question, demonstrates little understanding of the task, and provides little reference to the text.

0 A 0-point response is off-topic.
