Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year from the
Oakridge Parents’ Club. I hope you are enjoying
this wonderfully busy back-to-school time of
year and that your children are off to a great
start.
The Parents’ Club has an amazing year in the
making. Be sure and mark your calendars for all
of our upcoming events which are highlighted in
the newsletter.
If you have not had a chance to join the Parents’
Club, I’d like you to encourage you to do so by
clicking here. Joining is the easiest way you can
support the Parents’ Club. Membership is not
linked to volunteering nor asks anything of you
other than your financial support of $30. OPC
uses the funds from membership dues to help
fund our Parents’ Club organization and the fun
activities and events for your children.
I am grateful for the many parents who volunteer
so much of their time each year to make our
school a better place. Not only does it benefit our
children and our school community, it is a great
way to meet and connect with other parents. If
you are not already registered to volunteer or
help out, we invite you to join us. Please visit the
Oakridge Parents’ Club page on the school
website, click here to register to volunteer or to
sign up to help with classroom parties (ECC/LS) or
student socials (MS/US).
Please do not hesitate to call if I can ever be of
assistance to you. I hope to see you around
campus soon.

WHAT IS OPC?
The Oakridge Parents’ Club (widely known as OPC) assists the administration, faculty, staff and Board of Regents
in providing for the educational enrichment of the students; promotes the fellowship of the families and staff of
the Oakridge School and raises funds to accomplish these objectives. OPC is a community of caring parents
that is organized similarly to PTA’s in other schools.
In the area of Educational Enrichment, OPC hosts a variety of fun events that add to your child’s experience at
Oakridge. Many of our students look forward to these special and memorable events. They include:
Classroom Parties for the ECC (Early Childhood Center) and LS (Lower School)
Owlfest (Oakridge’s Fall Festival)
Holiday Treasures Gift Shop (a service that OPC provides in December to help students shop for holiday gifts
for their loved ones)
Student Socials such as Dessert Parties, special luncheons and other social events for MS (Middle School) and
US (Upper School)
Test Snacks (a snack break that is provided between final exams to give the students time to re-energize and
re-fuel)
After Prom (a safe and fun event held at Alleycats for US students after the Prom)
In the area of Fellowship of Families and Staff:
Back to School Fair (an event that helps provide families with an opportunity to get their “Back to School”
business done)
Meet & Greet (a 1st Day of School breakfast and welcome back that allows families to mingle, reconnect,
learn about and sign up for various volunteer opportunities)
Faculty and Staff Appreciation Luncheons (quarterly luncheons provided for teachers and staff)
Connecting Owls (an event that offers all new parents and parents of an ECC child to connect with other
Owl families in a fun and informal setting)
In the area of Fundraising:
Membership Dues (your membership provides financial support for OPC events and activities)
Magazine Sales (our largest 3 week long fundraiser that is held in the beginning of the school year)
Book Fair (your purchases allow us to raise funds to fill our library shelves with a variety of books for all reading
levels)
Uniform Resale (provides our families with an opportunity to purchase gently used uniforms)
Box Tops Collection (clipping and saving Box Tops helps earn free money for Oakridge)
OakridgePages.com (a new business directory that allows the Oakridge Community to share, support and
connect with one another)
WHAT DO WE DO WITH ALL THAT WE RAISE?

TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON
Page 6
We welcomed back our faculty and staff with our first luncheon on Monday, August 18th. Everyone was treated to a tasty fajita lunch
catered by Nuevo Leon. Dessert was provided by Kathy’s Icing on the Cake.
I want to thank Christine DiFilippo, Kristy Kundysek, Melissa Jiles, Audrey Stehr, Leslie LeMond and Lori Jones for taking time out of their
busy week to help serve and clean up. Also, a BIG thank you to Dennis Brown and Lara Haddock for helping with the raffle items we
provided for the staff.
Faculty and Staff Recognition is a great way to be involved with OPC. We need volunteers to bring food items, help set-up, serve and
clean up. It takes a LOT of food to feed 155 hungry faculty and staff members. Go to the OPC Volunteer Page and sign-up to help.
The Faculty and Staff Luncheons are a great way support our fabulous teachers and staff, spend time with other Oakridge parent’s
and spend a few moments with your child during their busy day. We have three more luncheons this school year: November 13 th,
February 5th and April 16th.
Feel free to contact me with any questions and I look forward to seeing you all around the campus.

NEW PARENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
NEW PARENT AMBASSADOR CONTACT LIST
For those of you who are not aware, The Oakridge Parents’ Club now provides a Parent Ambassador Program to
aid new families with guidance and assistance during their first year at Oakridge. Parent Ambassadors are simply
experienced Oakridge parents who have volunteered to help incoming families get adjusted to their new
school. Each family new to The Oakridge School has been partnered with an Ambassador that has children in the
same school division and even grade level as theirs. The Parent Ambassadors have been busy over the summer,
reaching out to our new families. They attended the New Parent Dinner (pictured below) and they have been
available to answer any questions for new families as we begin the new school year. If you are interested in
volunteering to be a Parent Ambassador for the 2015/2016 school year please contact Susan Daniels at
817.797.5076 or [email protected].

BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR & PICNIC
Page 8
OPC was proud to host the Back to School Fair again this year in conjunction with the Family Picnic on Saturday, August
16. The Fair was held in the MAC from 9:30-12:00 and offered numerous opportunities for parents to streamline their
back to school tasks. From shopping for gently used uniforms to joining OPC to turning in medical and bus transporta-
tion forms, we hope parents left campus that day feeling like their families were fully prepared to begin school on day
one. Other areas at the Fair included Box Tops turn-in, Community Partners, Extended Day Programs, Food 4 Life,
OakridgePages.com, Owl Club Membership and Spirit Store, Parent Ambassadors, School Supplies, and Volunteer Reg-
istration.
Sincerest appreciation goes out to Deme Cleveland, Chair Elect, who was invaluable in the planning and implementa-
tion of the Fair. Thank you to all of the volunteers who gave so generously of their time during the Fair: Denise Barley,
Shelley Brandt, Dennis Brown, Angela Cary, Stephanie Choudhry, Susan Daniels, Michelle Emmert, Holly Fagan, Lara
Haddock, Jill Houseworth, Kristy Kundysek, Larraine LaRovere, Fran Lyons, Ronda Lane, Lauren Matocha, Jennifer
O’Connor, Stephanie Pham, Michelle Reese, Jennifer Tompkins, Victoria Walker, Denise White, Linda Wright, and
Shawna and Jeremy Wright. An additional thank you to the Development Team of Michele Cole, Kelli Lambert, Alisa
Hunter, and Teri Foster for their support and assistance.
The goal of the Back to School Fair is to be your one stop shop, and we hope it was just that!

MEET & GREET
Page 10
This year's annual Meet and Greet was held on the first morning of
school in the library. We warmly welcomed new families to the school
and enjoyed catching up with old friends about the lazy days of
summer and the excitement of a new school year. The Meet and
Greet showcased the many wonderful events that occur throughout
the school year, as well as the numerous volunteer opportunities
available for each event. With the chairs from each event available
to provide a small glimpse into their special day(s) and to answer any
questions, this was the perfect time to sign up for the many
opportunities to become involved at Oakridge. Judging from the
smiles and laughter that morning, a good time was had by all.
US 1st DAY OF SNACKS
Page 11
The first day of school for the Upper School started off with on a sweet note! Upper school students enjoyed a morning
snack of fresh fruits, kolaches, muffins, breakfast bars and donuts as they made their way to their first day of classes. Many
Oakridge parents helped welcome the students back with snacks and drinks. Thank you parents for your donation and
time! With your help, the 2014-2015 school year started off with a blast! If you are interested in participating with other
Upper School events, please go to the OPC website and sign up for Upper School Activities! Our next function is a Fall Des-
sert Party during Lunch on Wednesday, September 17th. Hope to see you there!

CONNECTING OWLS (FORMERLY KNOWN AS PASTRIES FOR PARENTS)
ALL ECC PARENTS and ALL NEW PARENTS are invited to attend "CONNECTING
OWLS" on Friday, Sept. 12 at 8:30 AM at the ECC. After you drop your child off
for the day, come enjoy coffee and breakfast snacks with other parents, while
learning more about how to get involved, volunteer, and all of the fun events
that are occurring this fall. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, catch
up with old friends, & make some new ones. Tour the ECC, and see what our
little students are doing. Special performance by Upper School students. We
look forward to seeing you there!

MAGAZINE SALES
Page 13
This is the largest fundraising event of the year for the Oakridge Parents’ Club (OPC). Last year we had a great year
and raised well over $50,000 for the school. EVERYTHING we raise goes back to the school either by funding events for
the students, faculty, and staff during the year or through major purchases for things around the school.
More information on last year’s allocations can be found on page 3 of the newsletter.
Already have enough magazines? Due to the huge success of the “Kids Helping Kids” Program last year, we have
continued it this year. The purchases from this program went back into the DFW community. We would able to give
the gift of reading to over 60 children in the area. It's a good way to support the school and help someone in need in
the local area.
The FINAL deadline is fast approaching on SEPTEMBER 17, 2014. Go online to see all the wonderful products and
magazines available to purchase. www.gaschoolstore.com Instructions for Getting Started Online

OWLFEST
OWLFEST 2014 IS COMING SOON!
OPC sponsors an annual Fall Festival event for our kids. Owlfest is not only a time for our children to have a blast,
dress in costumes and see their friends, but it is also a great opportunity to meet other parents.
Owlfest 2014 will be held on Tuesday, October 28th from 4pm-6pm in the Student Activity Center (SAC). This fun fall
event is for all ECC and Lower School students, parents, and grandparents. It will feature several traditional games,
prizes, cool Raffle items, a haunted house, ponies, bounce houses, food and of course, candy. Please don't miss out
on this fun event! If you would like to donate a cake for the cake walk at morning drop off, or donate your time to
Owlfest, you can sign up and volunteer online specifically for Owlfest by going through the Oakridge Parents’ Club
and clicking on Owlfest. You can also contact Angela Redding at [email protected] or 817.944.6709 for
more information on volunteering.
Also, keep an eye on your childrens' backpacks and be on the lookout for emails that will be sent out soon to
purchase tickets for the event and raffle tickets. Soon you will also be able to buy Tickets and Raffle Tickets online
through the Oakridge Parents Club. Don't miss out on this awesome event!
HOLIDAY TREASURES
Page 15
What is Holiday Treasures you Ask?
Holiday Treasures is an Oakridge Parents Club sponsored event for Oakridge students ECC
thru sixth grade. Preparations for this event begin mid October with the arrival of merchan-
dise that was carefully selected at market in June. Items are checked in, wrapped and dis-
played, transforming The Oakridge Parents Club building into a magical Gift shop.
December 8-12 students arrive by class and are given the opportunity to secretly select gifts
for the the special people in their lives. Amazing volunteers help each student shop, wrap
and bundle up their gifts. Participating in the excitement of the experience and seeing the
pride our students have in themselves after selecting their perfect gifts at Holiday Treasures
truly gets you in the Christmas spirit!
What makes Holiday Treasures a Success? Volunteers! Volunteers are needed as early as
mid October thru our event in December. If you have a little time here and there and
would like to help check in orders or pre wrap gifts, we would love to have you. The majori-
ty of volunteers are needed the week of Holiday Treasures to help the students shop. We
have worked diligently to make volunteering a fun and cheerful experience. If you have a
full day or a half day, all help is appreciated. Last year we were short on volunteers so sign
up and encourage your friends to sign up as well! We look forward to seeing you at Holiday
Treasures.
