    On

    a

    monthly

    basis

    the

    Officer

    of

    the

    Watch

    Blog

    publishes

    a

    report

    regarding

    maritime

    piracy

    incidents.

    The report focuses mainly in vessels of the Merchant Navy (Bulk Carrier, Chemical Tankers,

    Containershipsetc).Although thenumbersofmaritimepiracy incidentshavedecreased the last few

    years,stilltheproblemremainsand increasedvigilanceshouldbeshownbycrewofvesselstravelling

    throughpiracyinfestedwaters.

    Theaimofthisreportistohighlightpiracyrelatedincidentsandgivebackground informationonwhat

    has happened in each one of them. Such informationmight be useful to persons involved in the

    maritimeindustrysinceitmaybeusedasreferenceonattackpatterns/tacticsbeingfollowedbypirates.

    The informationcontained inthisreporthasbeencompiledfromdataavailable inthewebsitesofthe

    board fired rocket flares followed by warning

    200meters and fired upon the tanker. Master

    increased speed, activated SSAS, sent distress

    message,firehosesactivatedandthenonessential

    crew mustered in the citadel. The on board

    security team exchanged fire with the pirates

    resultingintheskiffabortingtheattack.
