Principal’s Message

A NEW SCHOOL YEAR I would like to welcome back all of our families to a new school year. I also formally welcome all of our new families to our wonderful school. This year we have a few new members of staff; Mrs McKenna joins us as one of our new Assistant Principals; Mr Borg, Mrs McGinnes and Miss Idone join our teaching staff; and Mrs Fenech is our new School Learning Support Officer. I know you will warmly welcome those new to our school. Following a state wide Expression of Interest process, Mrs Andrina White was successful in gaining the second Deputy Principal position at our school. Congratulations to Mrs White. I can report that this year’s enrolment stands at 661 students, which entitles us to 28 classes, 3 of which form part of our support unit. In order to keep our class sizes a little smaller, as a school we have decided to self-fund an extra class teacher, which brings our total number of classes to 29. Each year the classes at Glenmore Park Public School are named to reflect a theme. This year our classes have been named after an Australian town, city or landmark. Please refer to the list below for a summary of our staffing and classes for the year.

As most parents would understand, state schools are staffed on total enrolment numbers. As such, fluctuations in said numbers impact on the way we form classes. Staff entitlements also allow teachers to take various types of leave throughout their careers such as long service leave, leave without pay, part-time leave etc. Our 2019 staff list: Deputy Principals Mr Mark Arnold and Mrs Andrina White

PARENT WAITING AREA We have many students at the school and when parents/carers are also in the playground this creates some safety issues. The teachers are required to actively and effectively supervise the children and so in order to ensure this is possible, especially in the mornings, we ask that you remain behind the blue line that is near the staffroom. Your cooperation is crucial in ensuring the safety of our students.

PBL focus for Weeks 1 and 2:

Star Rule: Student focus .

Student focus: Be ready to learn. How

can we show that we are ready to learn?

KISS AND DROP ZONE I would like to just remind our families that we have a Kiss and Drop Zone that operates each morning and afternoon. You are NOT permitted to park in this zone whilst it is in operation (8.00am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4.00pm). It is a zone where families are able to set down or pick up children. There is a limit of 2 minutes and if your child is not there in the afternoon, you must move along and then return to the zone. It is crucial that we all work together and obey the rules in order to ensure the safety of all of our children. I thank you in advance for your cooperation with this issue. EMERGENCY INFORMATION CARD UPDATE 2019 At the beginning of each year we ask all families to complete this card and return it promptly to the school. It is an important part of our beginning of year processes as it enables us to ensure we have the most up-to-date contact details for each student. This year’s cards have been distributed to all students and I would encourage you to complete the card and return it by the end of this week. (Kindergarten students received their cards last Wednesday.) DATES FOR YOUR DIARY… The beginning of the year is always busy and as such I would like to draw your attention to a few events that will be taking place at the school. Leaders Induction Ceremony – Thursday 21 February at 9.10am

All the students in leadership positions will be presented with their badges at this ceremony. Invitations will be sent to the families of the students involved.

Parent Information Afternoon (Meet the Teacher) – Tuesday 19 February from 5pm to 7pm This is an opportunity for parents/carers to visit their child’s class and hear about what they will be learning this year. It is also the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher. Please note: this is not a Parent/Teacher interview night, if you would like to discuss any issues with your child’s teacher you will need to schedule an alternative meeting time. K-2 and Support classes will be from 5pm until 6pm 3-6 classes will be from 6pm until 7pm

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY Borrowing Welcome to a fresh year at your school library! We are looking forward to a fun and exciting year sharing and enjoying quality literature and working on projects in the library. Soon your teachers will advise your children of their library borrowing day. Students require a library bag made of fabric in order to borrow from the library. This is to minimise damage to the books and keep them in good condition for the next borrower. A pillow case is also suitable. We have a handful of library bags to give to students who come and ask for one. First in best dressed!! Book Club Issue 1, 2019 The first Scholastic Book Club catalogue was sent home with students today. Two catalogues will be sent home every term from which families are able to order. To order, follow the instructions on the back of the order form in the centre of the catalogue. The school requires orders to be placed online. The school is unable to process cash and cheques. The closing date for ordering Book Club online is Tuesday 12 February. Mrs Magner & Mrs Dalitz TEACHER/LIBRARIANS
