Spring 2019 (7) OO News Spring 2019 Welcome to Issue 7 of OO News. There's no place like Oakham... Last term was an amazing mix of home and away: having OOs back at the Barraclough for the Black Tie President’s Dinner, seeing so many of you at the Christmas Drinks, and going to New York and Munich to meet Old Oakhamians who had travelled far and wide to establish lives and career paths. As we watch the evenings getting lighter and brighter, it is worth remembering that the strength of the OO community, your willingness to turn up at events, organise reunions and come back to the School in so many different capacities, continues to make Oakham a force to be reckoned with. This support means that the OO Facebook group is now a thriving community of over 2000 members and we have held over forty OO events over the last three years. More than ever, Old Oakhamians are contributing to the Foundation's fundraising Campaign for Oakham and the 1584 Society is ever increasing in number. This in turn ensures that inclusivity and opportunity continue to be part of the broad brushstroke of Oakham School's legacy. Quasi Cursores Eileen Fisher Alumni Manager

Spotlight on.....Legacies

Leaving a Legacy to Oakham School is one of the greatest gifts you can makeand one that will certainly make a significant difference to the lives of futuregenerations of Oakhamians.

"I look back fondly on my years at Oakham during the 1950s and 60s. I mademany friends and have kept in touch with several of them. I believe the Schoolhas made enormous progress in the last 50 years and I am delighted to makea contribution towards continuing this good work in the form of a Legacy.” Stephen Billyeald (64)

Legacy Gifts help us to provide more fully funded bursary places as well assupporting major Capital Development projects. As a school with limitedendowment funds, the generosity of our donors is vital if we are to furtherdevelop our facilities. The gift of a legacy will be recognised and celebrated byinviting you to join The Robert Johnson Legacy Society, named in honour of theFounder of the School. Robert Johnson himself benefited from bursarialsupport to fund his education, which in turn led to his founding of Oakham

How to leave a Legacy to the SchoolDrafting a will or updating an existing will should be a relatively straightforwardexercise. We do recommend taking legal advice before doing so. This ensuresthat a will is correctly written, and the tax benefits of leaving a legacy are fullyexplained. If you feel that leaving something to Oakham School in your will, ormaking a one off donation is something you'd like to consider, please contactthe Foundation Team on 01572 758 699 or by email here.
