Brief Physical Work Description:

Overburden stripping (removal of soil, overburden, trees, tree stumps), bedrock trenching and rock sampling was performed on Mining Claim SO 1078884, Monmouth Township (G-1298), Haliburton County, Southern Ontario Mining Division. Overburden stripping and bedrock trenching was done using picks, shovels, Husqvarna 262 chainsaw, axes, crowbars, Pionjar 120 rock drill/breaker ('jackhammer') and sledge hammers. Overburden stripping exposed calcite veins in feldspathic paragneiss. Several methods for mineral specimen and gemstone extraction from the calcite veins were evaluated. Much work was done to expose a large calcite vein and prepare the area for future mining. Several calcite veins parallel to the large calcite vein were exposed by overburden stripping. All work was done under the supervision of S. Harper (author). On average 12 hours were worked per person per day except where noted.
