Hyper-V over CSV protection
SC DPM Hyper-V Over CSV 2.0 Protection
• Efficient Express Full Backups• No more owner node and non-owner node performance penalty
• Parallel Backups• 900% backup performance improvement• How does it work?
• SC DPM tracks changes on VM as they happen using DPM filter driver• All changes are noted in a bitmap • < 0.5% CPU penalty
• @ Backup, create snapshot, read and transfer changed content to DPM
SC DPM - Hyper-V CSV 2.0 Protection
900% backup performance improvement
Improved ROIBetter Scale and SLA
Hyper-V over Remote SMB - Protection
SC DPM Hyper-V Over Remote SMB Protection
• Efficient Express Full Backup • Support all private cloud deployments
• Hyper-V Stand Alone – Remote SMB Stand Alone• Hyper-V Stand Alone – Remote SMB Scale Out Cluster• Hyper-V CSV Cluster – Remote SMB Stand Alone• Hyper-V CSV Cluster – Remote SMB Scale Out Cluster
• How does it work?• Agent installation on both Hyper-V server and Remote SMB Server• VM Change tracking @ Remote File Server• Protect only Hyper-V leveraging Windows SMB File Servers• No third party NAS Box
VM Live Migration – Uninterrupted Data Protection
• Windows Server 2012 support Live Migration anywhere• Inter and Intra Cluster• Stand alone to Stand alone• Cluster to Stand alone and vice versa
• Uninterrupted data protection by SC DPM• Original Location Recovery• Recovers VM to the current host where it is running
• How does it work?• SC DPM interacts with SC VMM to find VM’s new host• Initiates the backup job on new host if need be
• SC DPM Machine$ is an admin on SC VMM Server• Install SC VMM Console on SC DPM Server
Protection of Live Migration VM - Demo
Hyper-V VM Scale and perf improvements
• SC DPM can protect up to 800 VMs of 100GB each• How does it work?• Express Full Backup• Page File Exclusion
• Page File Exclusion• Backup storage savings for VM protection• Protects VM without Page File• How does it Work?• Move Page File to a separate VHD (like Scratch VHD)• Specify the Page File name to SC DPM Server• SC DPM backs up the Page File VHD as part of IR but not as part of DR
SC DPM Scale Out• Protect any size clusters
• Multiple SC DPM Servers protect same cluster
• A 64 node cluster with 4000 VMs can be protected by 5 SC DPM Servers

Protection of Volumes with Data Deduplication
Windows Server 2012 Data Deduplication• Efficient protection of volumes with Data
Deduplication• Efficient both on the wire and on SC DPM backup storage• Works on full volume protection and recovery• How does it work?• SC DPM should be running on Windows Server 2012• Optimal when full volume backup• Optimal when full volume recovery• Copies Chunk Store and “Dedup” files
• SC DPM do not leverage Data Deduplication for its storage

Windows Azure Backup
What does it do?• Reliable offsite data protection
• Convenient offsite protection• Safe, geo-replicated data• Encrypted backups
• A simple, integrated solution• Familiar interface• Protection for older servers• Windows Azure integration
• Efficient backup & recovery• Efficient use of bandwidth and storage• Flexible recovery• Flexible configuration

Customer Questions• Security/Compliance
• Can US govt. get access to my data ?• What happens if cloud gets hacked ?• What happens if cloud operations person want to misuse this data ?• Can Steve Ballmer get access to my data ?
• Customers are safe for all of the above as data is always encrypted and private key is with customer and not in cloud.
• Can customer control where data reside ?- Yes
• Networking• Compression • Network Throttling
Where is it available?• Windows Azure Backup preview has begun
• April 4, 2013
• Languages• The current 11 languages of the Azure Management Portal:• English, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), French, German,
Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish
• Countries and Data Centers• All 89 Windows Azure countries• 3 Azure Datacenters: West US, West Europe and East Asia.
How much does it cost?• Pricing
• First 5 GB are included in Windows Azure subscription• The unit of charge is average daily GB• US $.50 (50 cents) per GB per month
• Preview pricing is at a 50% discount• Example
• A customer stores 0 GB for the first half of the month• During the second half of the month they store 20 GB• So their average daily storage is 10 GB• The first 5 GB are included in their Azure subscription• The remaining 5 GB are charged at US $.25 during the preview• US $1.25 for that month during the preview
