Top 11 Games of 2012

2012 was a very strong year

for games and in particular

for downloadable games. Aside from the odd bad blip

on the radar the year continued to produce new

and innovative games along

with new takes on classic

genres. I couldn’t decide on my number ten so I boosted it to

11 Here is a quick rundown of

my top 11 games of 2012,

Dragon’s Dogma jumped onto the scene

in May of this year and despite a lacklustre plot

its stellar gameplay and brilliant enemies made

it an easy choice for number 10.

Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit A delightfully cheerful and twisted

platformer Hell Yeah! was a great new take on the genre with its blend of Sonic and Warioware gameplay.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning 38 Studios and Big Huge studios

last hurrah was a huge RPG based

on a world created by R. A.

Salvatore. Its amazing world,

style and combat system placed

it at a solid number 8.

e Released over the summer

for XBLA and PSN I Am Alive

tells the story of the world

after “The Event”. The world

is left in ruin and you must

climb and scale it in the hope of finding your family.

Halo 4 With Bungie handing

the reigns of the Halo franchise over to 343 studios there were a lot of fans feeling a little anxious about the

fourth entry to the series. However they did the game proud and retained Halo’s position at the top of the FPS ladder.

Scribblenauts Unlimited The only WiiU game to make my list and

probably the only one really worth mentioning is Scriblenauts Unlimited, cheerful as always the game allows you to be as creative as possible and gives you some great situations to do it in.

A reimagining of the original XCOM game, I was originally skeptical but after seeing some gameplay I knew this was going to be huge. Intense, dramatic and, at times, enraging the game can bring out the best and worst of gamers everywhere.

Chivalry Medieval Warfare

I believe a vast majority of people would label this the best multiplayer game of the year. Brutal melee combat coupled with almost comedic death thralls make Chivalry a weird blend of fun and competitive. Grab your friends and get this game!

Blood Bowl is the perfect transition from table top to digital game. A must buy for any strategy fans of Warhammer fans alike. The newest installment of an older game but one of the stand out games of 2012

Page 12: Online reporting-presentation

Journey Journey is a hard game to describe. With little to no real mechanics besides jumping, sliding and beeping the game would seem to be a little simple. Yet using just these mechanics ThatGameCompany made one of the most emotional and compelling games to

date. You’re adventure whether alone or with a new friend will be with you forever.

Dead

Basing Games on comics and television shows rarely

end well so I was hesitant to try this out. But when

you actually put some time into the game you’ll find

it devilishly smart, intensely emotional and

intelligently designed. A fresher take on the adventure genre, it might not

play like a normal game but the mark it leaves

makes it my favourite game of 2012.
