Woolworths NSW to open a new store in

Coward Street at Mascot.

The Woolworths online store will service the deliveries to the city and eastern

suburbs. 47 Trucks will be required to service these

deliveries upon start up. The Mascot facility will have its own

butcher, bakery, chilled and freezer section. The store is due to open on the 14th July

2014.

DRIVEWAY DANGERS Studies show many driveway accidents involve children playing behind a vehicle and sustaining injury when the vehicle moves in reverse. Steep inclines, large cars and mini vans add to blind spots making it difficult for drivers to see small children. It is at this time I would like to remind all Woolworth’s online delivery drivers that they are not permitted to drive/reverse their vans into a residential driveways. Several incidents have been reported after drivers failed to comply with this rule which include hitting trees, carports, letterboxes, house guttering, phone and power lines. Customers have also complained that drivers have damaged gardens and grass when completing U turns. Drivers are to follow their GPS and travel around the block to access their main delivery route. Never complete three point turns in narrow Streets or reverse in driveways. On the 16/5/2014 NSW incurred a dangerous incident when a sub-contractor completed a delivery at a rural property. The driver touched the customer’s private power line that ran from the house to the shed with the top of his Pantech vehicle. There was no damage to the wires upon initial inspection with the customer. The specific dangerous incident occurred several hours later when the male resident investigating a power loss to the house touched the fallen power line receiving a minor shock. No medical treatment required.

Dangers of Careless Driving

Distracted drivers such as reading while driving, increases a drivers' chances of being involved in motor vehicle crashes by three times. Reading maps and directions is also distracting for drivers, and the act of doing so is often accompanied by the process of looking for an address, the stress of being lost, and/or the confusion of driving in an unfamiliar area. Again, the physical act of reading combined with mental and emotional distress creates a dangerous driving distraction. Drivers who need to consult a map or directions should pull over in a safe place; this will also give them time to orient themselves to their surroundings before continuing the trip.
