• Tips and tricks• Tools actually used.
Me and why
• Stig Harald Gustavsen (28)• Working offshore
• And using my spare time to study• Systems control engineering / Industrial IT and Automation / IIA / I²A Student.
• Did my bachelors while working fulltime. • Now still working fulltime but 50% student on the online master program
• Continued studies because I am still curious and fascinated about science & engineering.
• Obsessed with understanding.
Contact info: [email protected] / [email protected] or on FB messenger.
• Inform your closest ones that your are a studentnow, witch will require a lot of a lot of time andeffort.
• It is probably going to take more time than youinitially planned.
• Pause and rewind video lectures.
• Take notes as in an ordinary classroom.
• Use 1.25x or 1.5x speed on the video lecture(and any other technical video)
• Try to have someone to study with, discuss lectures,a online meeting or someone who lives near by you.
• If something is confusing• Ask students or the lecturer, don’t be afraid to ask!
• Do first what is asked
• Don’t develop a product to industrial standards, do what is asked.
• But if the assignments is fun, and pokes your interest then of course spend more time and be curious.
• Report – proofreading:• Use the Speak function in Word, so that you listen to what you have written!
• Organizing tasks

portal.office.com• And get MS Visio (from Microsoft imagine )
• Collaborate over Google docs / Google drive.(Now also available with files on your OneDrive through the entire basic office 365 package)
• If you live nearby join in on some lectures on campus (check TimeEdit) /
• Video Speed Controller Extention for Chrome ( control all HTML 5 based videos in the browser)
• Laptop / computer• Invest in a good / premium / business model computer,

• Dell XPS series (13” or 15”) or equivalent series from MSI / Asus / Lenovo / HP
• Display: Full‐HD screen (1920x1080) (4K not optimal for all engineering software but you choose)• CPU: Intel i5 / i7 6th gen or newer or equivalent from AMD• RAM: try get 16GB• SSD: Minimum 256GB (recommend 512GB NVME M.2 PCIe)
• Always bring a mouse and mouse pad• Extra monitor/s• Headset & webcam
• USB‐C / 3.0 dock in (make your laptop also into a desktop)• Make sure it Fitts your screen resolutions demands
• It is a muscle• If used it grows stronger• If not used or cheated on it weakens
• Always keep your desk clean• You need to study, not to clean your desk.
• Make a schedule and stick to it
• Todo‐list / Organizers / Tasks• Google keep ‐ keep.google.com• Trello – Trello.com
• Big sturdy desk • legs from IKEA • tabletop from OBS bygg
• Dell XPS 15” 9550• Desktop Machine• Logitech Anywhere MX™ (travel mouse)• Two screens (connected to desktop)
• A better solution is to have a laptop with a USB dock in to a desktop.
• Khan Academy,• Math & physics & fundamental JavaScript programing
• 3Blue1Brown• Visual math intuition
• Thermodynamics (MiT course)• ( IIA / I²A student: Check out some lectures in Thermobefore it confuse you in modeling of dynamics systems)
• Basic Python programing (MiT course)• If you need a good beginner course, inaddition/supplement to scientific computing.
• There are more courses on ocw.mit.edu• Key ideas in Linear algebra (Video ‐ G.Strange@MiT)• Linear Algebra subject / Applied Linear algebra subject (G.Strange@MiT)

Strongly reccomend to install 64bit version, 32bit is default. 64 bit is way more responsive, and uses less memory
