One week ISTE approved STTP on
“ADVANCES IN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT”
5th to 9th December 2017

Agnel Institute of Technology and Design, Assagao, Bardez-Goa
Agnel Institute of Technology and Design, Assagao is a private and self-financed
Engineering College established in the year 2012 with the approval of AICTE and affiliated
to Goa University. The Institute is a part of the Technical education complex of Agnel
Ashram Fathers who have established Engineering Colleges, Polytechnic and Industrial
training Institute in various parts of India. The Institute offers three Bachelor of Engineering
programs: 1) Mechanical Engineering. 2) Electronics and Communications Engineering 3)
Computer Engineering
The department has a team of well qualified and talented faculties with specialization in
diverse fields pertaining to Mechanical Engineering. We in Mechanical engineering
department at AITD envision to emerge as a center of excellence in Mechanical Engineering
in the state of Goa and our nation moulding all its aspirants to be adaptable to the dynamic
needs of society and innovations in mechanical engineering keeping the dignity, dedication
and work ethic at its forefront.
One week ISTE approved Short Term Training Programme was organized at Agnel Institute
of Technology and Design, Assagao by Department of Mechanical Engineering on
“Advances in Product Development”, organized in Agnel Institute of Technology & Design
from 5th December to 9th December 2017. The objective of the workshop was to give an
insight on various techniques and advances in product development.
This course was targeted towards Industry Professionals, Research Scholars, Faculties of
Engineering and Polytechnic and UG/PG students.
The workshop was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering at Agnel Institute of
Technology & Design, Assagao with the organizing team as follows:
1. Prof. Niraj Pai Bhale, Convener
2. Prof. Nagaraj Raikar , Course coordinator
3. Prof. Adersh Alornekar , Course coordinator
The workshop was attended by 23 participants including august participants from Mechanical
Engineering Department, Electronic and Communication Department, Computer Engineering
Department, across various colleges of Goa University.
The workshop was inaugurated at the hands of Shri. Sidharth Kuncelienkar, EDC Chairman
Govt. of Goa, on 5th December 2017 at 9.30 a.m.
This was followed by the technical talks by various speakers. First speaker, Prof. Gaurish
Walke, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, AITD touched upon the
Introduction to Product Life cycle. The speaker also gave an insight on advances in product
development the topics of Rapid Prototyping and reverse engineering. The next speaker,
Prof. Nagaraj Raikar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, AITD,
explained about different Geometric Modeling Techniques and importance of that in product
development. This was followed by practical session to give the participants, hands on
training on Geometric Modeling using Solidworks software.
On Day 2, i.e. on 6th December 2017, Mr. Maxwell Saby Rodrigues, Founder and Creative
trainer at Creative Makerz and resource person gave a brief about different rapid prototyping
techniques and their applications in various fields. He also demonstrated 3D printing to all
the participants. The next speaker, Prof. Niraj Pai Bhale, Assistant Professor and Head,
Department of Mechanical Engineering, AITD, explained about Quality tools in product
design. Next speaker Mr. Vishwesh Kamat, discussed about the Advances in Window and
Door Design and its development. Our next speaker Mr. Sujay Kolwalkar briefed about
Product Engineering using a case study of Electro Mechanical Product.
On Day 3, i.e. on 7th December 2017, Prof. Adersh Alornekar, Assistant Professor,
Department of Mechanical Engineering, AITD, started the session by giving an insight on
CFD. Next guest speaker, Mr. Blaise Costabir, GMI Zarhak Moulders Goa, discussed about
Roto-moldings for designers, he also shares his personal experience for design and
development of water tanks. Next Secession Prof. Nagaraj Raikar, Assistant Professor,
Department of Mechanical Engineering, AITD, explained about reverse engineering and
demonstrated different techniques used in reverse engineering using Solidworks. Next
speaker Mr. Benjamin A, addressed the participants with a topic on New technological
development in surface treatment techniques.
On Day 4, i.e. on 8th December 2017,Prof. Nagaraj Raikar and Prof. Gaurish Walke Assistant
Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, AITD, started with Solidworks session to
demonstrated the participants weldments and analysis. This was followed by Industrial field
visit to Gmi Zarhak Moulders Private Limited and Aviza Technologies which are in Verna
Industrial Estate, Verna, Goa
Day 5, i.e. on 9th December 2017, Mr. Satyawan Varadkar, ELSTEEL Modular Products
India Pvt. LTD., addressed the participants with a topic on ERP in industries and its
Application. During the session he demonstrated various case studies. Next, Mr. Abhay Keni,
Proprietor at Sri Shantha Pumps, gave the participants a brief knowledge on design and
development of pumps and also motivated the participants how to be entrepreneur and his
breakthroughs in the journey. Next speaker Mr. Vaibhav Velingkar addressed the participants
with the topic on new product design for single phase induction motor.
A valedictory function was held on 9th December 2017 at 4.00 p.m. at Mechanical department
seminar hall. The function was graced by the presidential address of chief guest, Mr. Abhay
Keni, Proprietor at Sri Shantha Pumps. During this function the participants from various
departments and colleges gave a feedback about the successful completion of the workshop
and also shared their experience and learning during the course of the workshop. They
appreciated the resource persons, coordinators along with the facilities timely provided to
them. The certificates were distributed to all the participants of the workshop. Finally, the
function was concluded by proposing vote of thanks by the coordinators.
To summarize, the One week ISTE approved Short Term Training Programme was organized
at Agnel Institute of Technology and Design, Assagao by Department of Mechanical
Engineering on “Advances in Product Development”, organized in Agnel Institute of
Technology & Design from 5th to 9th December 2017 was able to attain its objective towards
enhancing the knowledge in the area of maintenance and reliability. Thus the workshop was
conducted successfully.
