Timeline

The proposition creates additional capacity on the East Coast Mainline and relieves capacity constraints at  Doncaster station – a major passenger interchange.

Opportunities identified with incumbent franchise operators to serve a potential DSA station.

The loop is created with full grade separation from the East Coast Mainline.

The proposition increases the airport site’s rail catchment population (90 minute journey time) by 360% from 2.4m to 8.8m people, and delivers high-speed rail access from London and Edinburgh.

Number of committed schemes on the East Coast Mainline that will enhance this proposition:

» Introduction of Class 800/801 Azuma trains » Werrington Grade Separation » Huntington to Woodwalton track reinstatement » Digital signalling, train control and power supply upgrades

There are no Government committed schemes required to enable the proposition to be implemented, and no interfacing enhancement projects.
