Issue No. 19: 18 November 2015

From Our Principal . . . . . . Magella Dudley

Well done to our 2 cricket teams that participated in the state final of

the Milo T20 Blast. From all accounts they enjoyed their overnight trip

and a day of playing cricket at Blundstone Arena.

Mid-term is often a time student become a little tired and not as

focused on their learning. This term has been no exception. On

speaking to all students we revisited our values and expectations and it's

great to see how quickly the students have adjust to our requests. This

further supports the positive behaviours and embedded values we have

throughout the school and broader community.

Staffing Unfortunately Mr King, who has been on leave for the majority of the

term will not be returning to work this year. Whilst we are aware of

the impact on students and their learning we have been very fortunate

to be able to minimise this by Mrs Beskin-Clark continuing to teach the

class for the remainder of the year.

In addition to Mr King, Taryna Sims will also be away due to a family

health matter and therefore our normal Art Program will not continue.

One of our School Values: Responsibility means: Being on time,

owning up to mistakes, taking control of our actions and looking after

our school property.

2016 Planning

Staff have looked at a number of class structure

models working through the positives and negatives

of each.

The following structure has been agreed as the best

model to meet our students’ needs:

Kindergarten

Grade Prep/1

Grade 1/2 x 2 classes

Grade 3/4 x 2 classes

Grade 5/6 x 2 classes

Teachers will be looking at student data and needs

over the coming weeks and will be place students

into their 2016 classes. We will also be providing

opportunities for students to visit their 2016 classes

and begin making connections with their new class

mates and teacher/s

Reporting to Parents

Teachers are currently completing end of year

reports that will be sent home on Friday 11

December.

The reports Prep - Grade 6 will be a summative

report with ratings against the Australian curriculum

learning areas and a general comment. Staff draw on a range of assessment data as well as moderate

students work with colleagues to reach the assigned

rating.

Kindergarten students will receive a portfolio of

work to celebrate their child's kinder year as well as

a report on their development against the

Kindergarten Development Check.

End of year celebrations

Please take the time to read the calendar as it will

provide dates and times for our end of year events.

Ulverstone Show

This year we had some craft entries in the

Ulverstone Show. These crafts were created during

the flexible provision time with Mrs Jones. The group

consisting of Reece Connors, Cheyenne Turner,

Savannah Smith, Felicity Burden, Codey Saward and

Arnold House have sewn some awesome owls and

created some craft snails.

Our beautiful show display!

The group also won prizes (and money!) for their

efforts.

set out to compete in the state Milo T20 Blast finals.

To compete in this event schools had to compete in

regional events for the eight places in the final and

West Ulverstone qualified two teams which is an

amazing achievement. We decided to travel down

the day before the event and stay at Blue Lagoon

Camp. The students had a great evening at the camp

enjoying the long enclosed slides, trampolines, eight

ball and table tennis tables amongst other things.

We woke to a beautiful day and headed to

Blundstone Arena (this is where Tasmania play Sheffield

Shield games, Australia play test matches and North

Melbourne host AFL games). The competition at this

level was to a very high standard; however, our

students displayed some outstanding skills and their

sportsmanship was of a high standard.

Whilst we didn’t come away the overall winners we

won some games and it was a fantastic experience

for our young cricketers.

During one of our games we were visited by former

test Cricketers Tim Paine and Ben Hifenhaus (also

former West Ulverstone Primary student) and Tasmanian

Shield member Jordan Silk.

It was fantastic to have so many parents assist and

support our students on the day. Thank you to:

Jamie Hayward Katie Davis

Annette and Darren Connors Kathryn Wilson Jess Cook

Jessica Glover David Orders

Also thank you to our School Chaplain Chris

Beaumont who also assisted on the trip.

Caught You Being Good

This year we will be using the criteria of our school

values; Friendship, Responsibility, Respect, Safety and

Learning to award our Caught You Being Good

cards. Cards will be given to students who are

caught practicing our school values both within the

classroom and in the playground. These cards will be

collected by class teachers who will draw a winner

from their class once a fortnight. The student will

then select a prize (pencil, pen rubber etc) and also

have their name in the school newsletter.

Our prize winners are;
