Fountain was born in August 8,1893 in Tarboro, North Carolina, and was the son of Grigg M. T. FOWltain and Sarah Bryon Fountain. He was a graduate of Wake Forest College and the Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He was ordained as a minister in Warren County, North Carolina March 30, 1913. Rev. R. S. Fountain was married in 1917 to Lisha Coburn, and they were the parents of three children: Grigg Thompson Fountain, Mrs. Billy (Anna Fountain) Reid, and Richard Speight FOWltain, lr. Other than the First Baptist Church of Siler City, Rev. FOWltain served at least one other pastorate in Bishopville, South Carolina. Deacons Rev. R. S. Fountain The term deacon in the New Testament means minister or servant. The duties of deacons include responsibility for the temporal affairs of lhe church, the pastoral care and counseling of sick needy members, and working with the pastor in implement- ing the general work of the church in both its material and spiritual areas. Deacons should be elected from among men who have proved themselves\ faithful to Christ and the Christian calling in the ministry of the church. Deacons in our church were first nominated by the minister or deacon board members and elected by the church as life-time deacons. Four deacons had been elected previously and three were serving as they entered their first church home. According to the minutes the following elections took place between 1895 aud 1930. Rev. Richard Speight Fountain 1893 - 1941
