One day, in the arts and crafts class, Ms. Lawrence says, “Today I’d like you to draw your favorite

    animal.”

“Hmm . . . My favorite animal?” thinks Kanata. “I wonder what that is? I like dogs. I like cats. I like

elephants too. Oh, what should I draw?”

Kanata thinks and thinks, but he can’t make up his mind.

Daniel picks up a brown pen. “Whose pen is this?”

    “It’s mine,” says Kanata.

    “Can I use it?”

    “Sure. What are you drawing?”

“I’m drawing my dog. I like dogs.”

    “Great.”

    Kanata thinks and thinks . . .

But the class is soon over. And he still doesn’t know what to draw.

After school, Kanata and Daniel visit Magic Land.

They go to the wizard’s house.

    “Whose brush is this?”

“It’s not mine,” answers the wizard. “It’s Amy’s magic brush. She’s an artist. Here’s your third task.

Help Amy the artist with her artwork. She can’t come up with anything to draw.”

“Oh, she’s just like me,” thinks Kanata.

Ella takes the boys to Amy’s art studio.

“Oh, I can’t draw!” cries Amy. “I need to prepare for the fair!”

    “The fair?”

“Yes, she needs to get everything ready for the fair,” explains Ella. “With her magic pens and

brushes, you can make anything you draw real.”

    “Wow!” cry the boys.

“Well, I still don’t know what to draw,” says Amy the artist.

“I think we can help you.”

“What do we need for the fair?” asks Daniel.

“How about food stands? We need a hot dog stand, a popcorn stand, and a juice stand,” says

    Kanata.

    “Good idea.”

“Do you have a white crayon, Amy? I’ll draw some popcorn.”

“Yes, I do. Here you are.”

    “Thank you.”

Kanata draws some popcorn on the wall. In an instant, it turns into real popcorn!

“I want to draw some grape juice!” says Daniel. “Do you have a purple pen?”

“No, I don’t,” says Amy the artist. “But I have an orange pen.”

“All right, I’ll draw some orange juice, then.”

Kanata and Daniel draw hot dogs and juice.

They draw a merry-go-round and a big Ferris wheel too.

Everything they draw turns real except Kanata’s ice cream.

“Hmm . . . It’s not working. Wait. Whose brush is this?”

    “It’s mine,” says Ella.

Then some creature comes out of the

    wall! Is it a chameleon?

No, it’s a small angry dragon!

    “Oh, no!”

“We need some circus animals too!”

Daniel draws a pony. It jumps out of the wall. “How cute!”

Daniel is very good at drawing.

Kanata tries to draw a chameleon.

He is not good at drawing.

    “What’s that?”

    “Oh, I’m drawing a chameleon.”

“A chameleon? For a circus? But it looks like

    a dragon.”

They try to catch the dragon, but it moves very fast.

    And it breathes fire!

“Oh, help! It’ll burn all of my magic pens and brushes!”

The dragon attacks the table and chairs.

“Help! It’ll mess up my studio!”

“What should we do?” cries Kanata.

“I have an idea!” says Daniel. “What is a dragon’s favorite food?”

“They like cotton candy,” says Amy the artist. “But why do you ask?”

“Do you have a pink crayon?”

“Yes, I do. Here you are.”

Daniel draws some cotton candy with the pink crayon, and then he takes it out of the wall. It looks

    sweet and tasty.

“Here, dragon . . . This is for you.”

The dragon eats the cotton candy happily.

“Phew!” says Amy the artist. “You saved our lives!”

She looks around and says, “I think everything’s ready for the fair. Thank you for your help!”

Kanata and Daniel get another star on the magic book.

    Then they return home.
