WHEW!! It’s been a hot one!!! According to all of the articles I’ve been reading, July has been the hottest month ever recorded, with August being a close second. Wow, just think about that.

Here at the Valley, we’ve had another great summer full of events. In May we again held the Lynn Brandt Golf Tournament at Manor Golf Course with 76 golfers enjoying a round of golf together. June was the Fish for Fun day at Limestone Springs with 65 participants. A beautiful sunny day to fish and all the Kids took home prizes! July, we once again held our annual family picnic at the Shrine complex, where we, again, had almost 300 in attendance, despite it being possibly the hottest day of the summer.

The committees work very hard to put these events together for our members’ enjoyment. On their behalf, THANK YOU! That shows support for our Valley and I do appreciate that. It’s all about the members getting together, having fun, and enjoying that time together. My congratulations to Kim Kegerise and William Loos on receiving the MSA award this year at Valley Forge. Nominated to receive the MSA in 2017 are Raymond Kunkel and R. Bruce McLean. Although there will be NO fall reunion this year, here at the Valley we will be hosting the One Day Masonic Journey on October 29, 2016. As my Secretary reminds me, we need to hit the ground running. This is a day when you can join a Blue Lodge, become a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner all in one day. The most important part is that any Master Mason (no matter how long he has been a Mason) can join a Scottish Rite Valley in Pennsylvania this day FREE. No initiation fees. This is a perfect opportunity for you to invite any Master Mason to continue his Masonic Journey and for all of us to sign at least one or more petitions. Let’s do our very best to make this a great day for Scottish Rite Masonry. Mark your calendar for November 12, 2016, another great day here at our Valley. We will host Scottish Rite Day, a day set aside to celebrate Scottish Rite Masonry in the United States. Once again, the North and South will unite in a brotherhood of men. In celebration of this day here at the Valley, we will first host a dinner for members and their ladies (especially our newest members), followed by an evening of entertainment. Befitting this venue, our Scottish Rite Players will be performing “The Last Full Measure” in costume, plus entertainment by Dave Kline and the Mountain Folk Band. Space for dinner will be limited, so reserve early. I invite you to join us.

Sincerely and Fraternally, Butch

The Commander-in-Chief Ill. Irwin A. Kohler, 33°

POINT OF INTEREST!! Approximately 77% of the membership of the Valley of Reading is of retirement age; that being 60 years of age or older. A fact that just about every health advisor suggests is that those who retire, should remain active for several reasons. It helps to keep your mind sharp, it helps to keep the muscles in the body from degenerating from lack of use. However, the biggest fact of remaining younger is to socialize with people. It keeps you active, which is the main thrust to longevity. SCOTTISH RITE GOLDEN EAGLES IS THE FULL TICKET TO THE GOLDEN YEARS. Lunch, program, brief meeting and socializing – all for under $10.00 a month. The Golden Eagles Club of the Valley of Reading, Scottish Rite meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month of the year, at 12 noon in the Banquet Room of the Scottish Rite Cathedral at 430 S. 7th Ave., West Reading, PA. The gathering usually concludes around 2:00 p.m. Membership is open to anyone; Masons, widows or members of the community, who would like an enjoyable place to meet friends, have some food and have some fun. If you do already come to the gatherings – BRING A FRIEND. Dress is casual. Reservations are REQUIRED, so we can prepare accordingly. Make your reservations by calling Don or Barbara Loos at 610-678-1063 by the Wednesday, one week BEFORE the meeting.
