One Cup O’ Joe: Large with cream, one sugar.

Recognizing personal consumption and its’ impact on our environment.

By Ms. Bartelloni

It’s a pattern I have developed.

Every work morning, I wake up groggy.

Stop by my local coffee shop

And order a…

Large with cream,

one sugar, please.

But recently, I started thinking…

That’s one cup per work day

5 work days in a week

After a while, this all adds up!

That’s a lot of Joe!

That’s a lot of Styrofoam!

Potentially, I alone consume

260 styrofoam cups in a year!

What happens to all that styrofoam when I throw out

my empty Cup o’ Joe?

???

Online Database Research Revealed

•Styrofoam can disrupt hormone functions and cause low platelet counts, chromosome and lymphatic abnormalities, and create neurotoxic effects, which can lead to fatigue, insomnia and other diseases associated with the nervous system.

Online Database Research Revealed

•According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “Even 500 years from now, the foam coffee cup you used this morning will be sitting in a landfill.”

Online Database Research Revealed

•Purchasing one cup of coffee a day can produce 22.75 pounds of waste per year.

There must be something I can do!

I have to do something to cut back my

personal Styrofoam

consumption!

But what?

???

Here it is! I know what I can do

to cut back on Styrofoam

consumption while still enjoying a

Cup o’ Joe!

By filling up a reusable container:

• I save money for my local coffee shop and myself.

• I put to use something I already had and

• I cut back on my personal Styrofoam consumption!

Cheers to living Styrofoam free…

Well, at least in the

morning with my daily

Cup o’ Joe!
