The prince wanted to marry a realprincess. He travelled and searched...

...but he never found her.

He returned to the castle feeling sad.

One night there wasa big storm.

A ragged and wet princessknocked on the castle door.

I am a princess,can I come intothe warm?

We shall see if sheis a real princess.

The queen put a pea on the bed...

...and piled twentymattresses and twentyfeather quilts above!

That night, the princessslept in the bed.

How did you sleep?

I slept awfully! Whatwas in the bed to makeit so uncomfortable?

Only a real princesswould feel a tiny peathrough twenty mattressesand quilts!

The happy prince andprincess got married.

The pea was put onexhibition at theroyal museum.
