Goa Chapterth

The Goa Chapter organized a seminar on “Ergonomics at Workplace” on 26 October 2017 at 2.30 pm at Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi. The speaker for the occasion was Dr. Venkatesh Nevagi, MBBS, MD, FPCI, Interventional Pain Physician and Director, Padma Spine and Pain Centre, Margao-Goa. The seminar was arranged for teaching and non-teaching staff of educational institutes in Goa. Dr. Nevagi enlightened the audience on causes of pain in the body and how to overcome it. He also spoke on the recommended sitting and standing postures. Different parts of Vertebrae and types of pain originating from it was explained using its model. The seminar was followed by demonstration of Physiotherapy exercises by Dr. Rhona Carvalho which were appreciated by the audience. Fourty participants from various educational institutes in Goa attended the seminar. Dr. V. N. Shet, Principal, GEC, presented memento to Dr. Venkatesh Nevagi, while Dr. Suraj Rane, presented memento to Dr. Rhona Carvalho in token of appreciation for contribution to make India pain-free country. Shri. Suraj Marathe, Hon. Joint Secretary proposed vote of thanks.

Bhopal Chapter

The Bhopal Chapter organized one day National Seminar on “Sustainable Manufacturing- An emerging Need of st th21 century” on 28 October, 2017 at Banmore, (MP). Prof. SG Shri Ram College of Engineering & Management,

Deshmukh, Director, IIITM, Gwalior was the Chief Guest and Key-Note speaker at the inaugural session. He stated that sustainability is about ecology, economy and equity. Shri RS Sharma, Chairman, SRGOC presided over the function and Shri Avinash Mishra, GM (HR), Godrej Industries, Malanpur was the Guest of Honour.

Technical session-II, Shri V.B. Raghavaiah, Former Director, CPRI, Bhopal delivered a talk on “Introduction to Sustainable Development & Manufacturing”. He cited few examples to illustrate the concept of sustainability.

Technical session-III, Shri SN Daga, President of the Chapter & Former ED, BHEL, New Delhi delivered a talk on “Sustainable Manufacturing-An enabler for Continual Survival”. In his address, Shri Daga explained that sustainable manufacturing, by virtue of optimizing resource productivity and producing green products, is a good fit into the concept of Circular Economy. Technical session-IV, which was chaired by Dr. SK Agrawal, Former Professor MNNIT, Allahabad. Two papers were presented by the delegates. First paper on the theme “Modeling & Analysis of Manually Operated Friction Stir Welding Machine”, by Shri Sarvesh Kalejwar & Shri Prakash Shukla of ITM, Gwalior. Second paper on the theme “Discussing Lean Thinking Implementation in Manufacturing Industries”, by Shri Ankit Jain of AMITY University, Jaipur. More than hundred delegates from various industries and technical institutes attended the seminar.

Kolkata ChapterthThe Kolkata Chapter celebrated Diamond Jubilee Year 2017-18 on 27 October, 2017 with a great spree, in the

auditorium of the M/s. East India Pharmaceutical Co., Kolkata. Members along with distinguished guests were attended with great enthusiasm and made the programme a grand success. Mr. GN Saw, Chairman of the chapter inaugurated the function. Mr. A. Dey Chowdhuri, Hon. Secretary delivered the welcome address. He commemorated the immense contribution of Mr. PK Sasmal, a well known personality in the field of the IE profession as well as in framing the shape of the IIIE Kolkata chapter and also the recipient of various awards from the Institute. Then he requested Mr. PK Sasmal to address on the occasion. Mr. PK Sasmal in his candid speech reiterated the History of the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering especially mentioning the founder Member Mr. H. N. Thadani and other eminent personalities whose active contribution and support had made IIIE a reputed Institution at National Level. He also flashed some sweet memories of his long association with the Institute.One of the mentionable matters of attractions was the lecture delivered by Dr. Somnath Gangopadhyay, the eminent Professor of Physiology, University of Calcutta. Dr. Gangopadhyay in his speech “Ergonomics in productivity improvement” elaborately explained the physiological aspect in relation to Human factors on industrial workplace management. He explained how productivity is improved by ergonomically designend various tools & tackles and work stations, not only in industry but also applicable in domestic use. He emphasized the importance of ergonomics in designing industrial product and work environment. He also presented some excellent slides on latest technological development and advancement in field of Ergonomics, which were greatly applauded by the participant. Participants were overwhelmed and requested for repetitions of such programmes periodically. Vote of thanks proposed by Mr. D Chatterjee, Hon. Treasurer of the chapter.

Jamshedpur Chapter

The Jamshedpur Chapter conducted a Industrial visit to ISWP (Indian Steel and Wire Products) at Jamshedpur, on

th6 December, 2017. A total of 25 members representing various industries and educational institutions constituted the team. The aim of the visit was to gain insights on the manufacturing process of wires and to understand the various end product application of wires. The team also interacted with the officials of ISWP and shared the best practices of Tata Steel.

Chennai ChapterthThe Chennai Chapter organized Annual General Body meeting at Hotel Shaan Royal, Chennai on 26 July 2017.

The Chairman of the Chapter Dr. G Deenadayalan presided over the meeting and welcomed the members. The Minutes of the AGM held on 18-06-2016 were read out by Dr. G Deenadayalan, Chairman and was confirmed, duly proposed and seconded by Mr. PB Jeevan Rao and Dr. SP Srinivasan respectively. Annual Report for 2016-17 was approved by the General Body, duly proposed and seconded by Mr. Ayyappan and Mr. Nedunchezhiyan respectively. Accounts for the year 2016-17 was approved by the General Body, duly proposed and seconded by Shri Sriraman and Shri Aravind respectively. It was unanimously agreed to continue the services provided by the Auditor, Shri Shyam Sundar for the year 2016-17. The Office Bearers for the year 2017-18 shall be Chairman, Dr. SP Srinivasan, Vice Chairman, Shri V Ravichandran Hon. Secretary, Shri M Kamalakannan Hon. Jt. Secretary, Shri T. Ayyappan, Hon. 1. The Centre Allotment List (venue), Section and Subjects will be published on web site by .st

Discrepancies, if any, shall be intimated to Exam Section immediately. Requests for change of Subjects, Exam Centre etc

th. will not be entertained after 15 January 2018 th(after 15 January 2018 Rs.500/- processing fee have to be

paid for change of Subjects, Exam Centre etc).

2. Student should download the from web site from onwards. thHall Ticket 20 January 2018 Student will not be allowed

in the Exam Hall without Hall Ticket and Student Identity card.

3. Student Members who have not paid the Annual Subscription for year 2017-18 (F.Y April to March) and other dues of earlier years, if any, shall pay immediately, failing which they will not be allowed to appear in February 2018 examination.

4. Use of Mini-drafter is permitted for the Engineering Drawing and Computer Graphics papers.

5. Students found indulging in malpractices (copying, possessing chits and other materials, impersonating etc.) will be expelled from the Exam Hall. They will be debarred from subsequent examinations, as may be decided by the Board of Examinations. Attention is drawn to clause 4.12 on “Use of Unfair means” of the General Information, Scheme of Examination and Syllabus.

6. Cell phones / Mobile phones are prohibited in side the examination hall. IIIE will not make any arrangements for the safe custody of phones. Hence student members shall not bring mobile phones to the examination hall.

7. The cost of old question paper set for previous 3 exams, of Preliminary, Section A & Section-B is Rs. 250/- for each section.

8. All the payments are to be made by Demand Drafts only in favour of “Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering”, payable at “Mumbai”.
