Members o the Friends o theiishpay annual dues o one or ve hundred euros or join with a lietime dona-tion o one thousand ve hundred euro or more. In return, members are invited to semi-annual sessions eatur-

ing presentations oiishacquisitions and guest speakers. Tese guest speakers deliver lectures on their eld o

research, which does not necessarily concern theiishcollection.Te presentation and lecture are ollowed by a reception. In addition to these semi-annual gatherings, all

Friends receive a orty-percent discount on iishpublications. Friends paying dues o ve hundred euros or moreare also entitled to choose Institute publications rom a broad selection ofered at no charge.

Te board consults the Friends about allocation o the revenues rom the dues and delivers an annual nancialreport in conjunction with theiishadministration.

Teiishwas ounded by master collector Nicolaas Posthumus (1880-1960) in the 1930s. For the past decade,two o the institutes established by this history entrepreneur have operated rom the same premises: theneha(Netherlands Economic History Archive) since 1914 and the International Institute o Social History (iish),

which is now seventy years old. Both institutes are still collecting, although the subsidiaryiishhas grown arlarger than the parentneha.
