Something To Think About Randy Gilchrist, Executive Director The first weekend in December has become a time for the San Jacinto Christmas Mission Trip to the Rio Grande Valley. The week before Christmas is when we provide Christmas for all the boys at the International Boy’s

Shelter in Baytown. It is also the time of year that our churches are asked to support so many different good causes. Sometimes this creates a hardship on the churches as they seek to determine which offering, ministry to support. This year the Association wants to celebrate “Christmas in July” by gathering as much as we can in the way of stockings and stocking stuffers to go toward the Valley trip and providing Christmas for the Boy’s shelter. Last year we took approximately 350 stuffed stockings to the valley and provided Christmas for 162 boys ranging in age from five to eighteen years old. Let me encourage our churches to get involved not only in providing the stockings, but by going to the Valley as a part of our mission trip and being a part of helping a new or young church to get in contact with their target community. When Paul was writing to the church at Philippi he made the statement in chapter 3, verse 10: “that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death”,(ESV). To “know Christ” is to have a personal experience with Christ in His transforming power of changing death to life and service; becoming more like Jesus in our attitudes, actions and lifestyles.

For the Common Good Carey. D. Froelich, Associate Director for Church Enrichment ESV Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your

might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your chil-dren, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. By this time many of our churches have completed their VBS programs and the opportunity that came with this annual ministry is certainly wonderful. Boys and girls—many of whom have no other connection to the church or to the Lord—have had the seed of the gospel implanted in them through this and other summertime ministries. I am reminded that one of the ongoing needs of the church is to follow-up with these children: to contact parents and to provide more instruction for those who have responded to Christ’s call. Human nature tells us that when Family Night is over, VBS is finished for another year. But the truth is, the work must never stop; prayer warriors and able-bodied servants need to see this time after the decorations have come down as equally critical to the mission of VBS as the daily activities. Let’s be faithful in our efforts to use the response to VBS as a stairway to even greater ministry!

Men of Honor Father - Son Retreat

September 8-9, 2017

Cost $65 Men / $50 Boys

Men, this is an opportunity for you to bond with your sons, create some amazing memories, and get some great insights into God’s word about leading our families. If you do not have boys of your own, would you consider being a sponsor for a young man at your church?

Pastors: It would be so helpful if you would create a list of boys that need that male influence in their lives that are not getting it at home. And make a list of men that you would trust to lead these boys, and then ask those men directly if they would consider being a sponsor to a boy or two for this retreat. This retreat can be a huge step toward equipping and empowering your men to raise the next generation of men for your church.
