From the President Happy New Year, ARW Friends!
Here we are again - another year has passed and what a year it has been!
I would like to thank each of you for your confidence and support this past
year as I served as your President and I look forward to my second term
and another great year.
Many thanks to those who served on the Executive Committee this past
year! Each of you were so supportive and did a fantastic job! Your service
and dedication were greatly appreciated. A special shout out to Jan
Martinson, Marilyn Sage and Jacky Oh who have served in their capacities for many, many
years.
A special welcome to our newly elected members of the Executive Board: Bonnie Hochberg,
Tracy Livingston, Carol Jones, Donna Stawicki, Lezlee Alexander, Judi Bourd and Esther
Pratt. I look forward to working with each of you and I am sure we will have a successful
year!
Wow! I am so proud of you, our members, for your generosity in contributing to the families
of our troops. We raised $1200! Barbara Melkin and I purchased three $400 gift cards at
Walmart that will be given to three families in need at Luke AFB. I am sure they will be
forever grateful. Our members contributed their time and energy resulting in our club
producing hundreds of Christmas cards for the troops overseas. Thank you all so much!
The AzFRW Winter Meeting is February 9th and 10th in Tucson. I urge you to attend. These
meetings are so informative and feature great speakers. It is a wonderful way to make new
friends across our great state. Plan to go with a friend and share a room. Remember, ARW
reimburses you for the early registration fee. What a good deal! Special entertainment will
be “The Lone Stranger Hilarity Rides Again” at the Gaslight Theater. I have attended several
and the performances are fantastic. You will die laughing! Please find a registration form
attached.
I know we as Republicans have been disillusioned at times this past year with all the
negative press, the loss of a couple of elections in Virginia and New Jersey, and the slow
progress by the Congress. However, we need to stay positive as 2018 is going to be a very
strategic year. We have some important elections in our state and we cannot let them fall to
the Democrats. Let us all make the extra effort to support our candidates and do whatever
we can to elect them. This is one of the most important goals of our club.
On a positive note, Congress just passed the tax bill!! WOW! What a huge accomplishment
for the Trump presidency. This is a major legislative victory for President Trump. YAY!!!
May each of you have a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year with many blessings.
Arlene Goldblatt
From the First Vice President - Programming
Thank you to all who contributed to the Christmas card campaign! There must have been a couple of hundred cards sent to our troops overseas. Because of your generosity at this Christmas season, three families whose spouses are overseas received a $400 Walmart gift card. Yes, we collected a total of $1,200 to help those families at Luke! A special thank you to our own Debbie Lee, President and Founder of America’s Mighty Warriors, for helping with this project. I want to thank
Alex Melusky and his associate Gordon Brown for an outstanding program. Be sure to join us for our luncheon Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Our guest speaker is GOP State Chairman Jonathan Lines. Jonathan was raised in Yuma, AZ. He has been a strong defender of the United States Constitution. His belief in a high moral standard, work ethic and commitment to excellence made him a natural born leader. This is never more evident than in his involvement in business, community and family. He is married to Rosalie and has 11 children - 8 boys and 3 girls. This is an important time for our state and for Republicans. I know you won’t want to miss this program! Be sure to RSVP ASAP. FEBRUARY 14, 2018: This special program will be a candidate’s forum for those running for the congressional seat vacated by Trent Franks. Early ballots are out January 31st. Please wait to vote until all candidates speak at this February 14th meeting. I am sure you will want to hear what each candidate has to say. Details regarding this meeting will be sent, so be watching and checking your emails. Thank you so much, ARW, for all you do!

From the Region VII Director Hello Ladies of Arrowhead Republican Women,
It’s a real privilege and a pleasure to start the new year as your Region
VII Director! This promises to be a historic year for Republicans,
particularly Republican women!
Lezlee has asked for some information about me so here goes: I’ve been
a lifelong Republican, having grown up with a mostly Republican family.
As a young person, I worked on the Goldwater campaign and was an
active member of Young Republicans. After being away from active politics for a long time, a friend of
mine introduced me to Arizona Republican Women. I joined Central Republican Women’s Club in
Phoenix and have since become active again, serving as Newsletter chairman, 2nd Vice President
and President of CRWC, Newsletter chairman and Bylaws chairman of Central Republican Women
of Phoenix, the Nominating committees of both clubs and on the AzFRW Nominating committee.
My business career has been mainly in various phases of the airline industry with Pan Am, TWA and
Continental Airlines and then management with various travel agencies and ultimately owner of my
own. I am currently an independent travel consultant with an agency in Scottsdale.
Among my many interests and hobbies are beadwork and jewelry making, various other arts and
crafts, reading, history, Arizona history and traveling around the state, hiking, and of course
Republican politics. I try to keep up on the issues and use that knowledge to recruit others to our
cause.
I’m very excited to get to know all of you better and I just know that we are going to have a great
2018 – after all, it will be what we make of it! Happy New Year!

They were hand-delivered by Ginny Shick and me to some of these homeless vets at the annual bowling event December 17 in Sun City West. To see in the eyes of these men and women, the gratitude in receiving such a simple gift, truly gets one in the holiday spirit. Know that because of YOU their feet will be toasty warm for a while!
STAND-DOWN ARIZONA crept up on us early! If you are interested, contact me at the January 10 ARW meeting.
Arizona State Fairgrounds, Veterans Memorial Coliseum

ELECTION NEWS FROM AROUND THE COUNTY,
THE STATE AND THE NATION There is much for which we as active Arizona Republicans need to prepare in the coming weeks and months. All Maricopa County precinct committeemen will meet on January 13, 2018 for the Maricopa County Republican Committee (“MCRC”) Mandatory Meeting. Five Members-at-Large to serve
on the MCRC Executive Board will be elected and amendments to the MCRC Bylaws along with proposed resolutions will be voted upon. Elected State Committeemen from each county and Legislative District will meet on January 27, 2018 for the Arizona Republican Party Mandatory Meeting at which new State 1st Vice Chairman, 2nd Vice Chairman, 3rd Vice Chairman, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms will be elected. Amendments to the State Party bylaws will be voted upon along with resolutions which have been submitted. Of great importance is the special election which will be held in our own Congressional District 8 to fill the vacancy left by Trent Franks’ resignation. Most of us as members of Arrowhead Republican Women reside within CD 8 and this election is special to us. We will go to the polls for the primary election on February 27 and our general election will take place on April 24. Stay tuned for updates on candidate information and candidate forums which you can attend. Arizona Republican Party Chairman Lines, at the December 16 State Executive Committee meeting, reported that he was recently invited to meet at the White House with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for the reason that Arizona is recognized by the President and the RNC for our uniqueness as the earliest State in the country to have its ground team organized in preparation for the 2018 elections. Both the White House and the RNC are carefully focused on AZ GOP strategy since the Democrats have targeted the AZ Senate seat being vacated by Jeff Flake and Arizona State legislative races with their plan to spend additional $15 million in Arizona 2018 races. Democrats seek to flip the AZ Legislature and win the majority, thus blocking the success of Republican goals and Governor Ducey’s agenda. The RNC’s “Victory Operation” in Arizona has already hired five regional staff directors across the State and opened several satellite Republican Party offices. While our Republican voter registration efforts in Arizona are outpacing Democrats 55 to 1, we are strengthening our efforts because the Independent voter registration totals are close to matching those of Republicans. Nationally, the White House and the RNC are moving to get campaign workers on the ground all over the country – deploying thousands of new staffers. One focal point is countering the Democrats’ intent to take control of the U. S. House of Representatives and renew impeachment proceedings against President Trump. Arrowhead Republican Women are now being called upon to join forces with our Party leadership to do all that we can to inform, to recruit, to organize, and to get out the vote. Rae Chornenky Republican Legislative District 22 Chairman Arizona Republican Party Executive Committee Member-at-Large, CD 8
Legislative Update
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to my fellow ARW members! There
is a lot happening this year.
On January 8th, the state legislature will go back into session. If you have
ideas for new legislation, now is the time to contact your state
legislators.
I currently serve as the Senate President Pro-Tempore and Appropriations Chairman and
can be reached at [email protected] or 623-878-9761.
On February 27th, our Congressional District 8 will hold a special primary election to elect
Trent Franks replacement, since he resigned his seat.
Early voting will start at the end of January and candidates need to submit approximately
900 petition signatures by January 10th.
Voters can SIGN for ONLY ONE candidate, since there is only one seat open for CD8
(Congressional District 8).
This is true for other offices too. For example, you can sign a petition for only one U.S.
Senate candidate to replace Flake's seat, one AZ State Treasurer candidate, one state
senate candidate, and two state representative candidates.
So make sure you sign the petition for the candidate you support the most.
The winner of the Feb. 27th election will compete in a special general election on April
24th. However, CD8 is so Republican, that it is highly likely that the person that wins the
February election will serve out the rest of Trent Frank's term through the end of 2018.
Then candidates who want to replace Trent Franks beyond his current term, need to run
again in the August 28th Primary and the November 6th General election.
The Democrats are going to pour millions of dollars into our state to take over the U.S.
Senate Seat which will trickle down to other seats.
It is going to be a VERY busy year ladies. We cannot let the Democrats win. Get your
helmets on and prepare for battle.
Sincerely,
Debbie Lesko
ARW Legislative Committee Chair, former ARW 1st Vice President
Arizona State Senate, Legislative District 21
Small Business Administration’s
Office of Advocacy This year I was honored to be appointed to a position in the Trump Administration in the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy. The office plays a significant role in supporting America's small business community. While many small business owners exclusively think of the SBA for loan guarantees, the Office of Advocacy focuses on
regulations impacting small business. Advocacy was created by Congress to be the voice of small business. It is an independent office that represents small business before Congress, the White House, federal agencies and the federal courts. Advocacy works with federal agencies to find alternatives to proposed rules that are disproportionately burdensome to small business. Reducing the regulatory burden has been a focus of the Trump Administration and the President has issued two important executive orders on regulation. The first is for each new regulation proposed, the administration wants to take two off the books. The second is each agency must engage a task force to root out unnecessary, irrelevant, and redundant regulations. The Administration has been extremely successful in ending unnecessary regulations. Instead of taking two off the books for each new one proposed, they've actually cut 22! It's amazing to see first-hand how much unnecessary red-tape there really is! As I traveled through Arizona, I heard a number of different small business concerns. The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, patent reform, the overtime rule, the fiduciary rule, changes to immigration law and many other issues are on the minds of business owners and advocates. If you know of a business that has concerns about federal regulations, Advocacy has a webpage where you can offer your input about ending unnecessary regulations. You can go to www.sba.gov/advocacy to voice your opinion and continue the effort to end burdensome regulations and grow America's economy! Phil Lovas

Reprint of November 13, 2017 newsletter information:
Show Us the Money!!!!
I decided we should make it easier for people to connect the people and corporations who give money to the candidates and the vendors with whom they spend it. We began public testing of our program called SeeTheMoney.com. It’s been exciting to hear the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the site and I’d like to invite you to participate in its testing phase. The days of digging through reams of paper filings are over. The dynamic website empowers users to review campaign spending in a 21st century platform. In this day and age of Google and Amazon we should be able to search, sort and analyze information pain free. It’s my hope you check out the new site and give us some feedback as we continue to clean up bugs and make improvements in advance of its formal launch in early 2018.
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Each one of you has contributed hours, on a volunteer basis, to our Republican cause.
Attached is a simple tally sheet where you can write in those hours, starting from July 2015
through June 2017 (you can estimate for April, May and June). We know it’s often difficult to
go back to the past, but just try to recall events you’ve supported, committees you’ve worked
on, etc. and approximate when they occurred. Do the best you can!
These are the types of hours you can include in the ARW, AzFRW and NFRW columns:
Committee work (hours in meetings, preparing for meetings, doing committee projects,
etc.);
Attendance at State or National Federation meetings or conventions (include travel,
portal to portal)
Volunteering at any Republican or Federation headquarters (local, county, State,
National)
Preparing an article for the Newsletter, or an e-blast
Participation in any forum sponsored by the Federation or the Republican Party
Many of you worked directly in support of electing Republicans to local, State and Federal
offices during the past two years. All of those hours should be entered in the AzGOP,
Precinct/Ward and Campaign columns. Again, just do your best to determine where your
hours go. They will all roll up to the higher level “Campaign Awards” tally. Examples of these
hours are:
Non-Paid campaign activities (like volunteering for a candidate, getting petitions signed
Work done at home on mailings, making posters, making phone calls, computer work etc.
Time in session (and travel portal to portal) at Arizona Republican Party Convention,
Maricopa County Statutory Meeting, and Republican National Committee Convention
Time spent as a Precinct Committeeman and/or Precinct Captain
Working as a non-paid poll watcher on Election Day
Use the Community column for hours spent supporting activities like Caring for America
committees and projects.
Please use the attached form. A handwritten submittal is all that is required.
