4 MAGAZYN OMRON - UNILOGO

Unilogo - a leader in design and production of packaging lines for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, chemical and food industriesWe focus on turnkey solutions tailored to specific requirements of each industry in fast retoolable labelling as well as in

filling and closing technologies. Traditional packaging systems are not intended for the needs of short batch production

series - our machines, though, thanks to their fast retooling, face the constant changes of the market and customers’ needs.

Modern, intelligent visual tracking systems ensuring 100%

control of process quality are exceptionally important and

substantive part of solutions designed in our venues. It is

crucial in such branches of industry as pharmacy, in which

such a control is vitally important due to health and life of

patients. Similarly, it is the case in cosmetics in which quality

and efficiency of production process prevail. Due to all the

above mentioned reasons we, as a leading supplier for the

pharmaceutical and cosmetic branches, have decided to

make use of Omron visual tracking systems in our machines.

DecoRotary labelling machine is a rotary machine intended

for labelling packages of various and not normally used

shapes like ones of triangular base made of various materials

(glass, PET, HDPE). It is one of the most demanding solutions

of ours and we have applied in it a FZ4 camera. Thanks to the

advanced system of servomotors enabling setting any angle

position of a package, we may apply a label virtually in any

place of a package perimeter (up to 4 labels in a cycle).

Our machines may work in a non-stop mode, which eliminates

breakdown and idle time, and ensures very high capacity of

production at 200 labels/min. It constitutes another crucial

feature of our machines.

The above mentioned DecoRotary labelling machine is

the most frequently chosen device always when a difficult

package shape and high labeling capacity prevail.

Operation of this machine was a challenge both due to

requirements of the machine itself (non-stop working mode

and precision) and the products being labeled: nail polish in

a non conventional package shape (sand clock) and in a wide

range of colours - over 70 ones out of which 25 were glitter.

A camera placed on the entry star screw of the carousel is

used to position a package (each in a different colour) against

its cap. The device positions the product on the basis of its

logo shaped in the form of letter “E” and placed on the cap

in one of 70 colours of choice. Each time the camera takes

a package picture setting out with high precision aberration

from the set model and then sends to the controller

information how to set a plate against this model. Nature of

the product itself is an additional challenge here, too. It is a

tiny package of an irregular shape filled with product in a

range of colours. Especially challenging are glitter colours

since they create glints of light and so the camera registers

a blurred picture. Thanks to the system of software filters,

though, we manage to eliminate the glints ensuring stable

contrast. This, in combination with the Shape Search II

searching method allows to identify the model in each case.

The advantage of the vision tracking system which we make

5

use of is, in this case, its fast and precise work. Depending

on the package colour, type of glitter and amount of filters

applied, the camera works within the range of 20 to 70

milliseconds/min. The key feature here is the multi tasking

of our solution. The camera takes a picture and compares it

with a model, provides the angular position and eliminates

the break-ups caused by the glitter. A few operations are

performed simultaneously with remarkably high precision.

Colour bank is also worth being pointed at (approx. 100

shades) and each colour (model) may be programmed

separately. Our another solution to be presented here is the

Duo Roto Pharma machine customised for the pharmaceutical

branch with the “wrap around” labeling system of round

packages (vials, ampules). In this case we have used the

FZ camera with FlexXpect Pharma software. These, in

combination with the printing module (thermal printer) and

a pharma codes scanner, form an integral part of a highly

precise and restrictive print&verification system.

The camera takes a photo of the inscription which constitutes

also the model for further reference. The operator chooses the

scope of field that the camera is “to learn” in the HMI panel as

well as sets out which filter should be applied to process the

image, and what details should be verified e.g. specific signs,

codes, date, matrix etc. While verifying the alphanumerical

code a dictionary may also be used, because apart from the

picture itself the camera can be ‘taught’ particular signs not

to confuse e.g. digit 8 and 3. To sum up, we have chosen the

Omron vision systems, because we search for solutions that

will keep pace with our cutting edge labeling technologies

both in terms of quality and efficiency. Also, due to the nature

of branches we design for, we must control the production

processes in 100%. All this ensures much higher process

security, efficiency and precision than traditional vision

systems based on comparison of whole pictures.

Lines of this type are used for assembly of various kinds of

vehicle and household appliances harnesses. The assembly

takes place on specially prepared boards, which move between

operators, each of whom assembles appropriate components.

On the last station the harness preliminary test is conducted.

Application of the MX2 series Omron inverter allowed us to

precisely control the assembly line. It is possible to edit all

parameters with the remote operator’s console AX-OP05-E.

This allows for managing the line parameters without the

necessity to use the controller with the HMI panel.

The inverter can be parametrised using the CXDrive software. Its operation is easy and

clear, what reduces time and costs of implementation. Omron safety components were

also applied in this line. Programmable G9SP series safety controller and emergency

stops are activated with tightened wire stretched along the line for 40m, model ER

6022. Additionally, mushroom emergency stops A22E-M-02, 7 items, and two pull-wire

switches ER 6022 are connected to the G9SP controller. The

controller safety outlets disconnect the inverter through

safety inlets that are built-in, which results in immediate

deactivation of the line. Activation of any of the stops is

signaled with light and sound signal. All components guarantee

failure-free operation of the line, whose operation tact is 3 shifts,

6 days a week.

Application of the vision sensor for verification of correct

fixing of terminals in the car connector

Application of the FQ2 series vision sensor allowed for

verification of correct fixing of terminals in the connector.

Through this connector signaling on the left mirror of the car is

powered when there is another vehicle in the so-called ”dead

zone”, what has significant influence on safety. The connector

is miniature (app. 5mm x 5mm), what renders application of

another method of detection impossible.

The camera rejects pieces in which left terminal is NOK, right

terminal is NOK, both are NOK, and if there is no terminal in the

connector. The pictures can be recorded on the memory

card through LCD FQ2-D30 screen and archived, which allows

for reconstruction of the process in order to pick up production

anomalies. Production tact: 50 thousand/year.

Application of the digital process indicator for checking

current and operating voltage of the household appliance

transmission with electric motor

Application of K3HB series digital process indicators allowed

us to create a station controlling the value of supply voltage

and current consumed by the motor used in household

appliances. The station automatically loads the tested

transmission, and after a positive test result, it marks a good

piece. Each manufactured piece is tested. Two types of

components are tested on the station:

EU 230VAC version and USA 120VAC version. Indicators with

output smart cards and input event cards form a highly

flexible and universal test set with which various values, e.g.

temperature, frequency, number of impulses, weight can be

controlled. The station allows for checking the parameters

with the accuracy of +/- 0.1% of full scale.

12 MAGAZYN OMRON - ALUTEC K&K POLSK A

The machine manufactured by Alutec K&K Poland is designed to unwind blocks

of Bonnell type springs. Unique mechanical solutions made it possible to

process blocks of various thickness. But it was in the control system, with Omron

components at its heart, that final flexibility was achieved. With this system inside,

the machine is supporting its end user every day.

The main reason for ordering the device - the spring units themselves - can be

described as “quite problematic” objects for automation. The producer packs the

spring blocks in roll packs, 20 units in each. The compressed springs accumulate

mechanical energy and will produce very specific roll packs. Depending on some

of the parameters of the blocks such as length, width or thickness the roll packs will

behave differently during unwinding.

The initial design by Alutec K&K Poland was consulted with the customer and

prepared accordingly. Wide range of the roll packs to be unwound on the

production line introduced additional issues. In short time those issues led to project

update. It had to be done after the machine installation on site. The decision to leave

the mechanical structure largely unmodified came quickly. The elements made of

aluminium profiles could have been redesigned and adapted quite comfortably and

easily but the problem at this specific moment was time needed for machining and

finishing other parts, especially the ones made of steel.

There was no space for any compromise and the time to start production was near,

the pressure began to mount

Having a PLC on board was already a great benefit. The low-cost CP1E line is

always an attractive option in simple control systems. Economical justification

of using a compact controller in simple applications is definitely an increase in

flexibility - especially in devices made for specific unique purposes. Any necessary

modifications to the control system make compact Omron PLC a great investment.

Alutec K&K Poland, with its experience in control systems integration, always

recommends using an Omron compact control unit - even in projects with a

restrained budget.

The key element in the aforementioned modification to our machine was the JX

inverter. The most basic and cheapest line of Omron inverters guarantees reliability.

In traditional control systems with an induction motor it comprises a comprehensive

and compact, one-device solution. JX inverters paired with CP1E controllers

contribute to substantial acceleration of project realization at Alutec K&K Poland.

After introducing all the necessary improvements to the frame of the unwinder, it

A Bonnell springs blocks unwinder by Alutec K&K Poland

“Back to basics” is the best description of a project undertaken by Alutec K&K Poland for one of its customers. However,

even such basic projects are not necessarily free from unpleasant surprises. The devil, as always, is in the details. The main

theme during project implementation was cost-effectiveness and reliability in both mechanical design and control area.

Introduction of proven Omron technology combined with hands-on assistance of their technical staff brought all the

parties involved to a successful end result.

13

was time to adapt its control system. When a need has risen to

block the electric drive of the device, the solution was at hand.

Properly configured dynamic braking solved the problem at

once. Changing parameters on the JX inverter takes only a

few moments. The process is all the more easy when Omron

CX-Drive software is used. In a situation in which waiting for

a new drive would have cost our customer delays in starting

production, Omron industrial automation products proved

worth to be placed faith upon.

No device will be successful on the market without rigorous

adhering to the safety regulations and guidelines, even with

the most sophisticated control algorithm. The unwinder was

thus equipped with an extensive set of covers, opening of

which stops the machine. They are complemented by a rope

pull ER 5018 emergency stop switch.

Wide range of sensors offered by Omron also helped in

finding a perfect solution. Proactive support provided by

Omron employees in the decision making process gave our

design department at Alutec K&K Poland ability to focus on

other key aspects of the project, without having to attend

to minor details early on. This and the 361° philosophy had

crucial impact on satisfying the needs of Alutec K&K Poland

to quickly design and redesign. We didn’t have to spend

additional resources in order to nail down optimal solution

from the available options.

It can be said that thanks to technical quality and efficient

support of Omron it was possible at Alutec K&K Poland to

finish the project without undesirable delays. It wouldn’t

have been so obvious if other, seemingly simpler or cheaper

components were used. We didn’t have to worry about

seamless cooperation of all the parts of the machine. Thanks

to using Alutec aluminium profiles and solutions offered by

Omron there’s no problem too hard to be solved.

At the end of the day the production started as planned and

uninterrupted. With our unwinder it was possible to improve

work conditions on the production floor, enhance production

capability of the production line, and shorten the production

time - as compared to the previous production line on site.

The satisfaction of our customer is our best assurance that

we had made the right choice when we selected Omron

products.

16 MAGAZYN OMRON - GAWLIKOWSKI

SWPP Świniarsko has been built on the river Dunajec stage

of fall, in the Świniarsko district. The power plant has two

reglable turbo-generators, type Kaplan, each with a rotor of

the diameter 2100 mm. Our company was the comprehensive

supplier of the automatic, electric and power components of

the above project. The delivery included a controlling room

containing:

• chamber for the generators 1 and 2,

• passive power compensation,

• output power lead cabinet,

• automatic control system for the plant, with the CX-

Supervisor software included,

and an indoor transformer station. The purpose of the

automatic control system was to ensure an optimum use of

the Dunajec river water flow for the maximum efficiency of

the power production, with continuous control of the quality

of the output and of the condition of the installations and

equipment of the plant. The original assumption was that the

plant be a no-staff complex, with permanent supervision only.

After an analysis of the requirements of the customer, the

CJ2M-CPU33 controller was selected at the design stage. It

was then combined with the CX-Supervisor software. In order

to ensure the full control of the plant, the SCADA software

was integrated with a CCTV system, and the plant controller,

besides its basic function, had been programmed to supervise

the lighting installation of the plant and the alert installation

with a GSM module, through which it can communicate

with the system users. Besides the ability to communicate via

GSM (used only for short text messages), the plant was also

equipped with an Ethernet system with access to the Internet.

That solution enables the user to have a remote access and

insight into the working condition of the SWPP Świniarsko,

from virtually any place on the Earth and at any time.

The automatic components are based on the components

by Omron. Omron has been our partner for many years. The

elements used for that project include:

• E2A induction sensors as limit switches and rotational speed

gauges, combined with the CJ1W-CT021 module,

• RX2 inverters were used in the system of emergency

decoupling of the turbines, and as electronic transmission for

a more precise controlling of the turbines,

• CJ1W-TS562 (SL) module for the control of the temperature

of the planetary gears, bearings and windings of the

generators,

• CJ1W-CTL41-E module for the continuous control of location

of the stator blades and the Kaplan turbines rotors,

• CJ2M-CPU33 unit together with the digital and analogue

input / output modules, for the purpose of supervision and

control of the entire system,

• CX-Supervisor ME software, providing visualisation of

the power plant functioning and communication of the

machines with the operating staff (HMI), with emphasis

on the simple procedures and on a user-friendly interface

designed for smartphone users (due to the fact that the

SCADA package is frequently used from outside the plant,

via owners’ telephones).

It is worth noting that the DataLog tool, included in the

CX-Supervisor application, proved to be extremely useful in

the fine adjustment of the system of automatic control of

the power plant. Thanks to the permanent recording of the

installation response to variations of the hydrologic conditions

in the Dunajec river, the servicing technician was able to

easily analyse a large time range of the SWPP Świniarsko

operation. As a result, we were able to obtain even better

parametrisation of the controlling algorithm to this specific

location. The implemented solution eliminates the cost of

Gawlikowski - company founded in 2004 on the basis of

a family business managed by Grzegorz Gawlikowski. As

early as in 1991 we have completed projects in the water

power sector. From the very beginning we have been

collaborating with Omron, and introducing the state of

the art automated systems in line with the innovative

solutions developed and delivered by our partner Omron.

many hours of work of the servicing technician, required

to follow the regularity of functioning of the algorithm. The

time required for fine adjustment of the control system is

shorter. Due to varying conditions of the rivers and different

rate of change of the hydrologic conditions, the observation

of the systems after implementation may take as long as

several months (conditions varying in function of the season

and type of water-course). Thanks to such flexible and

comprehensive system of plant control, the Customer has full

control of the power plant functioning at any time and from

any place, via telephone, tablet or computer. The system is

also programmed to control and identify any malfunctions of

the production process elements. That solution enables even

non-professional staff to quickly track down and eliminate any

defect. For instance, if the system notifies the user that the cut-

out in the power supply path of the generator has been burnt,

the response can be quick and no specialised service staff is

needed. The system has a self-diagnosing ability. However, if

the staff present at the plant conclude that they are unable

to cope with the malfunction, the servicing technician can

establish a remote connection with the PLC controller and

eliminate most of the breakdowns or else implement certain

restrictions in the functioning of the power plant, so as to

ensure continuation of the power production and prevent any

risk to the safety of the machines and employees present in

SWPP Świniarsko.

All the above solutions contributed to a significant rise of the

output potential and to a reduction of the shutdown periods.

Thanks to that the Customer can obtain better results in

power production. The necessity to wait for the arrival of the

servicing technician – which in the best scenario can take

from several to twenty hours to reach the plant - has been

eliminated.

Conclusion: the solution including a permanent access both

for the operating staff and for the service technicians proved

to be a 100% hit for the Customer and for the contractor. The

higher costs of the implementation were very quickly offset by

a smooth and undisturbed exploitation of SWPP Świniarsko,

with losses resulting from shutdown periods being cut to a

minimum. For some time now our company has been using

the remote supervision automation systems as a standard.

The products supplied by Omron have proved to fit ideally,

guaranteeing the required flexibility and reliability of the

configurations.

18 MAGAZYN OMRON - INEO-TECH

The challenge for the project was to prevent physical contact

with the pie to sorting and stacking it on the line during the

production process. Suitable arrangement of the products

on the line would facilitate the execution of a simple system

to marking based on the nozzle and optical sensors. The next

challenge was the capacity of the production - marking 8

objects per second.

We have decided to apply modern vision system with the

matrix of fast dispensing nozzles. The decision was made after

the tests different types of dosing nozzles. The solution that

has been chosen included the fast print heads; however, the

solution exceeded the customer’s budget.

It was necessary to find the new solution – a more economical

one. Thus, we have considered a moving nozzle. This solution

is allowed to use only one print head, thus limited, however,

required the use of precise, ultra-fast drive for positioning.

The help came from Omron’s technical consultants. It is very

rare to meet a competent technical consultant who does

not focus only on the sale of components, but also helps to

choose suitableand at the same time economical solution. Mr.

Wojciech and Mr. Jaroslaw presented us modern linear drive,

which can be easily integrated into the Omron vision system.

Their technical knowledge, enthusiasm, and the ability to

compose the entire system of Omron components meant that

we decided to choose this solution. The significant fact is that

all control modules are available on stock in a few days.

Selected video system was based on two smart FZ-SQ100N

compact cameras and one FZ5-L355controller. The system can

be controlled by external signal through the I / O port in < 1

ms. This allowed us for precise control triggering and receiving

confirmation of image processing. Video controller created the

image points on the basis of a captured image, and allowed

to read data via EtherCAT. The operational algorithm of the

vision system consists of finding the edge, matching their

shapes and finding points facility at a suitable distance from

the center

Considering the weight of the print head, the trolley line,

accelerations and speeds of the line we tried to find a suitable

motion system. A linear drive that meets our requirements is

based on:

• 2 magnetic tracks 384mm (series R88L-EC-FM)

• linear coil (series R88L-EC-FW)

Food marking control system

Our company has been asked by the customer, a leading international manufacturer of frozen pies, to modify their

production process, that would allow for the marking the products. Standard marking process required to place the drop of

colorant at a specific place on the pie. The tolerance for a position of the point was set at 5%. The efficiency labeling system

was set at 30 000 pies per hour, provided that the position of objects on the production line can be varied.

• Servo Drive (R88D-KN02H-ECT-L).

The equipment was assembled on a stainless steel profile

along with rail and HWIN truck. The positioning of SW limit

switch was used with shock absorber and sensor solenoid.

To control the entire system we decided to use NJ301-1100

together with the I/O NX-ECC201 consisting of:

• 16 digital inputs NX-ID5442,

• 16 digital outputs NX-OD5256,

• 3 encoder inputs NX-EC0142.

The safety system is based on G9SA controller and linear drive

safety switch.

The configuration of axis is based on head LIA20 measuring

(20 microns) and rotary encoder E6C2-C 2000 imp. Linear

measuring system is responsible for the position marking

head, rotating for the position of the production line.

The algorithm of the system of marking contains two main

programs exchanging data with each other through an array

of points in the x and y axis. The first program is responsible

for collecting points for marking based on the vision system

outputs. The second program controls the position of the print

head and the moment of the print head jets. This program is

also responsible for sorting and optimizing the list of points.

The first tests were successful at the client. With the

support of professionals in the company, Omron vision

system configuration on the line lasted less than an hour.

The implementation of the algorithm and configuration

parameters of the linear drive in the environment Sysmac

Studio did not cause much difficulty. The system works

properly.

20 MAGAZYN OMRON - JURMET

Due to the labor costs increase, end users are looking for

lowest effort of operators and increased productivity with

energy savings. Therefore, many functions in machines

manufactured by Jurmet are automated with PLC control

systems and Omron components. One of the most important

thing is automatic adjustment settings of knives on HMI

panel to the expected width cuts. Furthermore, the process of

unloading the cut rolls is also automated to eliminate human

operation with heavy rolls (jumbo rolls). Automation level

depends of the individual preferences of customers and the

amount of the budget allocated to the machine.

In the Jurmet portfolio of machinery we can find Avancer2

turret slitter, the turntable and four rewind shafts, and separate

unwinding station with automatically table lift. The machine

is also provided with automatic knife positioning (fastest

among European OEM of this type of machine), pushing

and automatic handling. It is currently the most advanced

machine in the portfolio of slitter machines manufactured by

Jurmet, designed for high-performance cutting packaging

materials. PLC and HMI software developed for the CJ2 PLC

controllers is based on communication with the inverters and

DeviceNet that allows the quick change over time, easy and

quick to set the width of the cut. The machine also controls

throughout the production stage belt tension thanks to the

program on the HMI NS-series 12”.

An interesting proposal for the less demanding end users are

Winder slitter machines with integrated unwinding module.

Compact size and advanced features is the best solution for

many flexographic printing self-sticking labels. In order to

maximize the benefits of investment, Winder configuration

may contain without rollers station unwinding/unwinding

station without rollers, automatic knife positioning system, the

winding diameter of 800 mm, the beam pushing cut grassland

thimble and a positioning system with laser.

The master slitter machine is designed for producers and

distributors of film and adhesive materials. This type of

construction, as two-roll machine with a separate unwinder

station with such a high latitude , i.e. 2 000 mm (the company

is able to produce a machine to 2 200 mm) is not available

from other European producers. This is due to the fact that

such a large load machine with this design, width and

diameter winding require special solutions, which Jurmet

developed on the basis of their years of experience.

The smallest and also the simplest solutions based on CJ-

series PLC controllers are a core cutter for cutting cardboard

sleeves. Cater -a machine equipped with core warehouse with

automatic feeding and cutting on HMI panel to expected

width of cuts. Cores are cut in dust-free technology. Automatic

core cutter comes with or without a tray feeder according to

individual customer needs.

As an innovative company, Jurmet is constantly developing

new technologies, depending on market requirements.

Therefore, we expect the same business approach from our

suppliers. So far, Omron has kept us step in their innovation. In

particular, we are satisfied with the functionality of the Omron

HMI solutions and PLC controllers, we develop software on

our machines.

Slitter machines, rewinding of labels and films

Regarding to high innovation level in the packaging industry and a lot of recipes, materials on this market, it is necessary

to focus on the individual approach to each customer and his specifics of materials. To satisfy end users’ needs, Jurmet’s

engineers derive individual tensions for each material to be cut. The whole process of machine manufacture, from project,

documentation to production and assembly are carried out at the factory of Jurmet , which allows for full control of

phases and on the maximum customization of the manufactured equipment to individual customer needs. The software

implemented on operator panels supplied by Omron has a structure that allows the introduction of any modification in

order to adapt it to the current work of the customers.

Assembly and testing device for coffee maker components is

one of the project which is based on Omron components.

The device assembles and tests leakproofness of elements

which are components of the coffee maker, these are:

• base of water tank,

• sockets of water tank,

• seal,

• filter.

All these elements are placed by the operator in four jigs

located on the rotating table-top. The operator also receives

final product. Jigs pass through three positions (it is caused

by rotation of table-top). On the first station, head of the

device picks up filter and puts it on the seal located on the

base of the water tank. Then, head picks up the socket of

the water tank, pushes it into latch of the base and screws

Assembly and testing device for coffee maker components

KarT Sp. z o.o. has been on the market for over 30 years. At the beginning, the company’s activity was mainly associated

with comprehensive metalworking and manufacturing of simple technological devices. Presently, apart from the

production of mechanical parts of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, injection and blow moulds forms, the company’s

speciality is the design and production of specialized technological machines and devices dedicated among other things

for the food industry and manufacturers of household appliances. Complete production lines, testing and assembly devices

are the core of company business activities.

it on. On the next station – there is a camera which allows

the operator for a visual inspection of assembly on the HMI

panel. On the last station, there is a test of leakproofness of

the assembled components. It is performed by blinding the

socket of the water tank, inserting tip into socket, providing

pressure and its control in given time. The operator can read

the tests results on the HMI panel. The area of assembly and

testing is separated from the operator with a barrier. Safety is

ensured by properly distanced safety light curtains integrated

with safety rely units – supplied by Omron. Correct position

of elements in jigs is checked by fibre optic sensors. Their

undeniable advantage is the user-friendly interface and

the ease of “learning”. Another advantage is the ability of

installation in places with limited spaces. The device can be

optionally equipped with a vision system to check correctness

of the positioning latches of elements.

IML Technology

For several years we have been dealing in our country with

a dynamic increase of plastic packages production. They are

being used in many branches of economy, mainly in food

industry – ca. 60% , in production of manufactured goods

- ca. 30%, cosmetics – ca. 7% , medicines - ca 3 %. Polish

market of plastic packages is currently being valued for ca.

6 billion Euro, which makes almost 2% GNP. The thing that

makes current market situation characteristic, both with

regard to production, as well as to designing of packages, is

the pressure to increase quality of packages and materials

used to produce them, but also greater cost-efficiency.

Apart from their primary function, packages should perform

also decorative functions. In Mould Labelling is a modern

technology being applied in plastic processing when

decorating the packages. It is submitting a decorative

element, a label to the inside of the mould, by means of a

special manipulator. Molding are labelled during the process

of forming, which allows for great time saving. In Mould

Labelling may be applied in single and multi-cavity moulds.

The technology has got numerous advantages combining

the ones of stickers and overprints. IML labels mean highest

quality offset printing in high resolution, thanks to which

the produced items are more attractive visually. It eliminates

as well flaking, creasing and soaking of a paper label. An

unquestionable advantage of homogeneity of the product

is its easiness of being recycled, which gives an additional

reduction of costs and allows to obtain discounts for product

charges. The process of labelling in the mould can be divided

into the following activities: quick and precise placing a layer

to be put on the product in the cavity of the mould, then

locking the mould and compressing the material into the

mould. It enables permanent attachment of the label to the

Manipulators in plastic processing

produced item. After its cooling and taking out of the mould,

the product is ready and may be transported to store shelves.

However, it all requires speed and precision of used drives,

which are delivered by Omron Company.

Diversity of solutions

Manipulators built by HPR Remont6 Company are usually

unique constructions. Each of them is designed individually,

for a specific product, injection moulding machine and

mould, and what is most important, they are tailored to the

customer’s needs. Number of electric drives as well as the kind

of central processing unit are different in different solutions

depending on the customer’s needs and the application. In

the most simple constructions, where pneumatics plays the

major role, Remont6 Company applies sensorics and compact

controllers of CP1L series. Apart from modular controllers of CJ

series, standard projects apply servo drives and HMI panels of

Omron Company. In the biggest applications, there are already

network-based steering systems applied. An important role

in steering systems is also played by safety systems. Safety

limit switches, safety door switches, and safety relay modules

G9SB by Omron Company are responsible for the safety of

employees who operate manipulators. It should also be

taken into account that constructed machines are part of big

assembly lines, and it is very important so that they cooperate

with safety systems of other companies.

Solutions of the highest world level

There are no compromises accepted in developing flagship

products. In the most technologically advanced manipulators,

there are controllers of NJ5 series applied, based on Intel

Atom processor that works under control of real time system.

The controller manages the operation of several servo drivers

Hutnicze Przedsiębiorstwo Remontowe “REMONT 6” Sp. z o. o. in Dąbrowa Górnicza is a company established in 1992 as a result of dividing HPR Dąbrowa Górnicza into smaller units. In 2009 we organized in our company a department dealing with industry automation processes. One of the industry branch, for which we construct machines, is plastic processing. HPR Remont6 Company is currently one of the leading producers of manipulators in Poland that supply labels to moulds.

Contact details:Hutnicze Przedsiębiorstwo Remontowe“REMONT 6” Sp. z o.o.Roździeńskiego 1141-308 Dąbrowa Górniczatel. / fax: +48 32 792 79 [email protected]

of G5 series. Thanks to such configuration, it is possible to

control work of several axes of rotation of a manipulator with

the response time below 1ms. Depending on the application,

it is necessary to assure mutual work synchronisation of

several drives at the same time, which is ensured by applied

mechanic solutions. Applying EtherCAT master is enabled as

well thanks to automatics cables. In each manipulator there

is servo drive applied that drives the main axis. It is usually

R88M-K5K030F-S2 motor, controlled by the driver R88D-

KN50F. Precision and speed are important. In big manipulators,

for example, the footing beam of ca. 80kg weight must go at

the time lower than 0,5s into the working area of the injection

moulding machine, cover the distance of more than 1m, and

stop with an accuracy of one hundredth of a millimetre with

no oscillation displayed. Any failure to fulfil the conditions

makes the repeatability of production process impossible, or

may even lead to the collision of the mould and manipulator

elements.

Integration comfort

It is also worth mentioning that the whole software

necessary to configure Omron Company products is in two

environments: CX-One and Sysmac Studio. When applying

systems based on NJ5 series controllers, configuration of

the remaining modules switched to EtherCAT master is very

easy and fully possible by means of using Sysmac Studio tool

only. Configuration, start-up and later service of the system

becomes very easy thanks to it. HMI panels of NB5Q series are

also intuitive in their operations and they submit numerous

useful functions in machines produced by Remont6 Company.

Simple but still advanced

Apart from IML manipulators, Remont6 Company builds also

simple standpoints for packing, pad printing and assembling

plastic elements. Components of Omron Company

constitute also a basis of steering systems in this equipment.

However, the main importance is put at the price of final

products. Frequency inverters of MX2 series have proved

to be invaluable, and thanks to having Modbus master, they

proved to be simple but technologically advanced product

that enables steering of particular motors. Thanks to this,

automation seems to be simple, number of connections

in the control cabinet could be reduced to minimum, and

functionality in relation to standard solutions has increased.

Cooperation at a high level

We would not have been able to achieve such level if not the

engagement of application engineers of Omron company.

Thanks to good relationship with sales representatives of

Omron Company, we are always informed on current basis

on novelties introduced to our market. We implement new

technologies at more and more demanding markets of plastic

processing. We are currently working over the implementation

of FQ2 sensors, the aim of which is controlling the quality of

plastic details produced in our machines. Final result is always

top priority for us, and it is satisfaction of our Customers and

ours after a single start-up of a work centre.

26 MAGAZYN OMRON - U-R-B-A-N

URBAN Polska has equipped its own plant in Żary with

numeric machines for processing steel profiles, which resulted,

among other things, in creating a patent and design of a

milling machine for window seals controlled by a numeric

system, used to mill profile ends together with window seals.

In the production process of windows from plastic, profiles

together with seals are first cut under the 45° angle, and next

they are welded together under the 90° angle. When PCV is

melted and profiles are joined together in the temperature of

240°, the seals become overheated, hardened, and deformed

in the contact area. As a result, draughtiness may occur in the

window corners. Performing suitable milling after the profiles

are cut eliminates negative influence of welding on the seal

shape, so that they remain elastic, and the windows keep

their insulating properties. For this purpose URBAN Polska has

developed the new CNC milling, a 3-axis device type DFM

200based on OMRON automation. The milling machine is

adjusted to mill up to 8 profiles that is a complete window

frame or wing, in the window rebates and the middle seal.

This is its great advantage because other solutions available

on the market can mill only two profile ends. Thanks to the

construction of the machine, it is now possible to mill 8 profile

ends in one linear cycle, that is by moving and putting profiles

we can mill with great efficiency in front of one-person

operation. The machine has got a big work table for 8 profiles

of maximum dimensions: 200 mm wide and 150 mm high.

This is another advantage of the machine, because other

milling machines on the market do not offer such dimensions.

The milling machine has got a 7-inch touch control panel with

a visualization of profile sections in a *.dxf file, which allows

for user-friendly operation. Milling of profile ends takes place

with the help of VHM Ø 80 mm mill cutter with fast exchange

of tools on a sleeve. Profiles are inserted in the horizontal

position, and after the milling process they are moved onto

a support table, and further processed in a steady linear

cycle. The machine has as many as 16 pneumatic clamps – 2

clamps per profile. A feed of the engine together with the mill

cutter takes place on flat linear guides with automatic and

smooth regulation of the engine rotations in the scope of

6,000 - 18,000 rotations per minute. The machine can operate

in the left- or right-side direction. With one set of tables – it

saves space, but then there is only a possibility of milling only

4 profile ends, or any operation direction with tables both on

the left and right side – for 8 profiles. Milling of 8 profiles at

the same time results in a bigger amount of chips, so in order

to reduce maintenance shutdowns, the milling machine can

be connected to the chip stay of 1,5 kW power and a 2200

m³/h capacity. The milling machine is now available in the

U-R-B-A-N worldwide sales chain. After the patent registration

form no. P.394977 has been examined, URBAN Polska received

on 22th of November 2013 a patent from the Patent Office of

the Republic of Poland, under the title: The way of producing

frames and wings, especially window ones, for which the DFM

200 milling machine for seals is used.
