TECHNIQUE OFTHE WEEK

SOUNDSCAPE

WEEK 7

A soundscape is a collection of sounds that work together to set a scene or create a setting. The sounds can be

pre-recorded or made by the actor using their voice, body or other materials as instruments.

Try and recreate these sounds either using your voice, body or things you have around the house. Now choose your own setting to create. Examples could be: the seaside, a jungle, a train station.

Think of all the sounds you would hear in your setting and explore the different ways you can make them.

When When you are ready ask a volunteer to close their eyes while you perform your soundscape (this can be either live, recorded or both!) ask your volunteer to identify the sounds being made and guess the setting you have created.

TTOP TIP: You will have to be super creative if there is just one of you creating the soundscape. You could ask an adult to record some of your sounds so you can play them back – even better if you can get them to join in!

Go outside and close your eyes. Focus only on all the different sounds you can hear. These might be;

The wind in the trees (whoosh)

Birds(tweet tweet)

People walking (stomp stomp)

Cars driving past(beep beep)
