I am delighted to welcome you to Omnibus Theatre’s Autumn programme brought to you in the heart of Clapham.

This September opens with two groundbreaking and critically acclaimed productions; Robyn Winfield Smith’s powerful production of Judith: A Parting from the Body. Our associate artists Unholy Mess return fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe with Above the Mealy-mouthed Sea. To round off the month, comedian and Radio 4 stalwart Marcus Brigstocke and his new improv supergroup perform in There Will Be Cake.

October’s Perception Festival theme is about going against the tide. A vibrant mix of theatre, music and debate exploring what it means to step outside the box. Headlining is Kay Adshead’s new play A Cracked Plaster Sky; uncompromising, bold and not to be missed.

The European premiere of the dark comedy, The Trap about the perils of pay day loan sharks comes to us for three weeks in November and if you’re looking for a great family Christmas show, look no further. Zeraffa Giraffa, is our exciting co-production with the prestigious Little Angel Theatre. This wonderful story, brings to life the true

tale of a giraffe’s journey from Ethiopia to Paris. We will also be extending our Christmas offering with a version of Henry James’ psychological thriller The Turn of the Screw.

Throughout the season we continue our monthly storytelling evening So This is What Happened… Come along to hear extraordinary, amusing and life affirming real life stories. Omnibus Sunday Music continues with a special line-up for November, when we are once again a featured venue in the prestigious EFG London Jazz Festival.

Finally, please do come and say hello to us. We love showing you our beautiful red brick building. Pop in to meet Sally, our new Café and Bar Manager, who will be opening for business this Autumn, presenting a delicious menu for you to enjoy.

Marie McCarthy Artistic Director

The world is a very big place, especially for a tiny baby penguin who is just finding his feet. But although baby pen- guin may be small, his family know he’s the biggest thing of all. This early year’s favourite is a lovely and touching story about a parent and their love for their child. A Little Angel Theatre production based on the book by Emma Dodd published by The Templar Company Limited.

Woyzeck (Omnibus, 2013) director Robyn Winfield-Smith returns with this powerful one-act play that radically re-imagines the legend of Judith – the daring widow who infiltrates the enemy camp the night before battle to kill the blood-crazed head of the army, Holofernes.

An all-star improv show from award-winning improvisers Marcus Brigstocke, Rachel Parris, Pippa Evans and Paul Foxcroft. Each evening will be a brilliant, one-off, never to be repeated, dazzling, hilarious, silly, exciting, dangerous, innovative show featuring real fire (candles). And there will be cake. Actual cake.

A comic solo show written and performed by Katy Schutte, fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe 2017. This is the story of her trying to find love despite freezing up at chocolates, serenades and thoughtful surprises. For the record, Katy is perfectly happy to put Baby in a corner.

Ireland. 1986. A 15 year old girl dies giving birth at a grotto. An original and sometimes humorous imagining of a young woman’s search for understanding, in a conversation with the statue of the Virgin Mary. Inspired by a true story. Nominated for a Bobby Award, Brighton Fringe 2017.

Actor David Timpson represents Beethoven in this thrilling concert-drama, with the Dante Quartet performing all 3 of Beethoven's great 'Razumovsky' Quartets. Beethoven was the ultimate non-conformist. In a time when composers were humble employees, Beethoven insisted on being treated as an equal. After suffering debilitating hearing loss, he went on to create many of his greatest works while totally deaf, insisting to critics that he was writing “music for a later age”.

Honest and complex stories are gathered from across different London communities in I Walk in Your Words. This funny and poignant piece of verbatim theatre challenges cultural stereotyping and addresses the important issues pervading modern society. Hear true stories of identity and belonging that are all at once moving, unpredictable, tender, and funny.

Flamenco is music on the edge. It is passion only just restrained, emotion only just contained by form. It is wild, subversive, elemental, a fight to the death in music and dance. Jesse Sebastian returns as part of Perception Festival with special guests for no less than the fifth time.

Inspired by real stories of women working in street prostitution, A Cracked Plaster Sky tells the irreverent and, at times, painfully amusing story of Grace, and the voice inside her head. A voice that, despite poverty, violence, imprisonment, estrangement and despair, won’t shut up. Told over 70 years, the story strips to the bone, a fleshy raw life, and an entire generation and their dreams. It proposes a different way of being. It reveals other shining universes.

Across the plains of Ethiopia where grass grows tall and acacias taste sweet. A young giraffe is sent as a gift from the Pasha of Egypt to the King of France, but Paris is very far away…

With a boy called Atir to help Zeraffa find her way, the pair sail down the Nile past pyramids, sphinxes and temples and out across the stormy sea to a country where everything is different. No one has seen an animal like Zeraffa before. Can Zeraffa & Atir find a way to make this new place home?

Zeraffa Giraffa is an emotionally engaging tale that explores what it is like to be different. Based on the book by award- winning children’s author Dianne Hofmeyr, Zeraffa Giraffa

is inspired by the astonishing true tale of a real giraffe. This brand new adaptation is told using beautiful hand- made puppets and an original musical score that will bring you along Zeraffa’s epic journey across land and sea.
