Winter Issue ~ January 2014
COMMUNITY LAY DIRECTOR’S LETTER
Dear DaySpring Community:
Happy 2015!! Scriptures that come to my mind of renewal
are Proverbs 23:18 (There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope
will not be cut off); Micah 7:7 (But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,
I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me); Psalm 65:11 (You crown
the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance); and
Psalm 96:1-3 (Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all
peoples.). What a blessing and encouragement His Word brings us to
press forward into another year of serving Him.
Even though it seems a long way off, the spring walks will be here
before we know it. If you know of someone that you having been praying
for to take the Walk to Emmaus, it’s better to get those applications in
sooner rather than later. You can download the application and sponsor
forms from the DaySpring Emmaus website (www.dayspringemmaus.org).
If you need sponsorship training, watch for emails and the website for
upcoming opportunities.
The lay director for Men’s Walk #123 is Bill Hollingsworth, and the
lay director for Women’s Walk #124 is Angie Wagner. Please keep them in
your prayers as they form their teams and prepare for the meetings coming
up in February and March. The men’s walk is scheduled for April 9-12, 2015,
and the women’s walk will follow the weekend of April 16-19 … both at
Indian Creek Baptist Camp. Dedication will be Sunday, March 29th from
3-6 pm at New Beginnings Community Church (State Street and I-265).
On the agenda this year will be our monthly Gatherings (the first
Friday of each month in which there is no Emmaus walk), Praise Gathering
in June, Community Serve Day in August and of course our fall walks in
October. There are a lot of opportunities to fellowship with community
members in addition to worshipping and serving our Creator, so we hope
you will join us as often as you can.
Remember, anyone can attend
Gatherings … whether they have
been on a walk or not. Children are
also welcome to attend, however,
there is no child care provided.
I want to close this letter
with my sincerest thanks to all of you
who make this DaySpring Emmaus
Community such a great group of
brothers and sisters in Christ to serve
alongside. I can’t wait to see how the
Lord is going to use this community
to further His Kingdom this year.
Dear Community, we’d like to give you another opportunity to love on our pilgrims for the upcoming
spring walk. The board has decided that instead of pilgrims having to purchase books at the book table, we'd like to let them be able to take one free book home. In order to do this, we need your help. Do
you have any gently used Christian nonfiction books sitting around you want to get rid of? I'll be happy to take them off your hands. Or you may purchase books to donate to the... pilgrims. Please keep in mind these books are introduced at the Growth Through Study talk. So they should be studies,
devotions, or bibles. You may bring the books to any gathering or contact me and I will arrange
something. We can't do this without you. We need at least one book per pilgrim, so we need 100 books
before April. Love and blessings, Stacy Kampschaefer Agape Board Rep
Let It Snow!
My love for one good snowfall each winter is not a secret. I have
people who cheer me on and others who are not so cheerful. We
did not have a white Christmas this year, but I choose not to lose hope.
All I ask God for is one 6-inch snowfall each winter, and then I
am done. And no, do not tell me to move farther north. Only
God could inspire me to move into snow country on purpose.
One good snowfall each year is enough for my childlike sense of
wonder to emerge. I love the way the world comes to a stop, ever so briefly,
when there is a lot of snow. This makes time to rest or play or to simply
marvel at the beauty of God’s creation. Everything looks better covered
by snow. The pure white snow covers a dirty world for a moment in time.
The sunlight reflects off the glistening, glittery snow. Ice crystal designs
appear on the windows as God’s cold weather creates artwork
in unexpected places. It reminds me of the scripture from
Isaiah 1:18a: “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as
snow”. When we confess ours sins to God, He takes our dirt from the world
that we have allowed in our hearts and covers it like the snow covers the
ground. We do not deserve such a pure white cover, but God provides it
through His Son Jesus who loved us before we even knew Him. I need
just one good snowfall every winter to remind me that God is ready
to forgive and cleanse me with His beauty formed by love. Let it snow!

Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the friends, even though they are strangers to you; they have testified to your love before the church. You do well to send them on in a manner worthy of
God; for they began their journey for the sake of Christ, accepting no support from non-believers. Therefore we ought to support such people, so that they may become co-workers with the truth.

I love Jesus! It's really that simple. He became "real" in my life in 1998 not just a story on
a page. Since then my life has been filled with many opportunities to serve the kingdom.
My passion is Worship. Giving praise and honor to the savior of my life is what I was made
to do, as well as you. I have the privilege of leading worship at Pfrimmer's Chapel UMC
as well as following another passion of leading Jr./Sr. High youth. What better joy than to
see youth walk toward the Lord instead of the world. I am blessed to have my husband and
partner of 25 years at my side in both of these ministries! So blessed. We both enjoy of
family of 2 children and 8 grandchildren. They keep us movin'! I'm looking forward to serving
as the Lay Director April 16-19. What a joy and privilege to be in ministry with 50+ amazing
women and men to being leadership to a deeper level in our churches to further the kingdom
of God. So we go! With our hearts wide open! Our eyes on Him

Walk 123 That's pretty easy. My walk was the most
Influential and important 4 days of my life. That weekend
not only allowed me to grow in faith, worship and leadership,
but it also totally redefined my understanding of grace and
love. I hope this weekend, His weekend, provides the same
experience for at least one of the pilgrims.

Beginning with the 2014 walks, in order to sponsor a pilgrim you will need to go through
a sponsorship training session. A session is approximately 30minutes. Even if you have
sponsored pilgrims on previous walks, this training is required. You need only complete the training
once in order to sponsor pilgrims in the future. This training program will be presented by the
DaySpring Emmaus Community Board members at various venues throughout the
community over the next several months and at all future follow-ups. If there are any reunion
groups or church groups who would like to host the sponsorship training contact Jamie Hayden

Most memorable part of my walk was our stone toss. Pastor Tim instructed us to pray
before coming forward and dropping our stone in the bucket. That stone represented
my defense mechanism, also quick to deny and defend myself before all else. My stone
accompanied by many others which where washed by the blood of Jesus and they were
thrown to the bottom of the lake, and at the
bottom of the lake they will stay.

What is a Reunion Group? The Emmaus group reunion is a small accountability group of two to 12 persons who have usually participated in the three-day Walk to Emmaus and who want to continue their pursuit of a life lived wholly in the grace of God. These small follow-up groups help pilgrims translate the message conveyed
on the Walk to Emmaus weekend into a daily walk with Christ. With the regular support of a few faithful friends, the gift of God's love in Jesus Christ becomes a lifestyle of Christian discipleship through the threefold discipline of piety, study, and action. Group reunions meet at regular times, usually weekly for an hour. The meeting
consists of persons' sharing the stories of their walk with Christ during the past week. Members listen to one another, celebrate the grace of God in each person's life, and reinforce each one's core commitment to living in union with Christ in all facets of daily life. Members express that reinforcement through gentle accountability,
encouragement, and support of one's stated discipline and plans. Excerpted from The Group Reunion by Stephen D. Bryant. Copyright © 1995 by The Upper Room
