OH FBLA Finishes Strong! The Olympic Heights Future Business Leaders of America have had a great year! The officer team went to Pennsylvania in October for a team bonding retreat, 20 members attended the District Fall Conference where we won 1st place in the Display Board Creation, 2nd Place for our Brochure, and 2nd Place by John Egan in Battle of the Chapters. The State Leadership Conference was held in Orlando, Florida in March and we had 15 students attending, with Matt Frazin receiving a 1st Place State win in Accounting, making him eligible to compete at the National Level in June. FBLA is a nationally recognized organization providing a lot of benefits, discounts, and scholarships. FBLA is open to all students in the school and a primary goal is to build membership. Our chapter provides a lot of fun events and community service projects throughout the year. Stephanie Aghassi, OH Chapter President and District XX President was an effective leader for the chapter and the district this year where she has definitely left her legacy for future officers and she will be sadly missed. Additional Seniors, Jade Bravo, Secretary and Alisa Spahic, Historian, also played instrumental roles in our success this year. We wish them the very best in their next journey. Interviews for the new officer board will take place on May 12 in Room 6103. We are proud to announce that Alejandro Colas campaigned and won the position to be the 2016-2017 FBLA State Reporter. Top Winners at the District and State Level are as follows:1st Place Accounting - Matt Frazin1st Place Personal Finance – Stephanie Aghassi1st Place Sports and Entertainment Management – Daniel Anderer and John Egan1st Place Impromptu Speaking – Jessica Kane1st Place Health Care Administration – Jackie Finston2nd Place Web Design – Jason Shatsky2nd Place Accounting – Sarah Lewittes3rd Place Accounting – Jason Kahan3rd Place Personal Finance – Jade Bravo3rd Place Business Ethics – Alejandro Colas and Jeffrey Shoenfelt4th Place Personal Finance – Chenneal Hyman

Hospitality and Tourism March was a busy month for us. We toured the Boca Resort and Club with a historical perspective provided by the Boca Raton Historical Society and the fabulous docents who volunteer their time. We also took the senior class to a Panther’s Hockey Game where they got a tour of the marketing and sales offices located behind the scenes of the ice rink. Students learned from a sales representative about different sales tactics used to increase Panther ticket sales.

Spanish National Honor Society

The Spanish National Honor Society has worked countless hours to organize donation drives that help the less fortunate. For the past 2 years, SNHS members, led by club sponsor Adriana Carbone, have hosted a variety of donation drives for the Caridad Soup Kitchen of Boynton Beach. We have done Back to school drives, toy drives and baby drives. We have donated over 250 school supplies, 233 toys, and over 130 baby supplies. Our future goal is to double our numbers and make a bigger impact with The La Caridad Soup Kitchen. The students love to get involved and help deliver the donations. It has made them realize how fortunate they are and makes them appreciate the little things in life. Many of the students have continued to volunteer during their free time. If you would like to make donations for community service hours, please contact Mrs. Carbone.

Wrestlers Finish Season 4th in State Persistence and dedication pay off. The 2016 Lions wrestlers stayed the course and had arguably the best season in school history: 25-3 record, Santaluces, Kuntz Duals, Tri-County, South County and District Champs. Individually the senior class was highly decorated with 3 State Qualifiers: Garrett Davidofsky, Alexi Castro and Stefen Singer, and 2 State Placers: Ethan Altabet and Dan Georges and 1 State Champion: Laurence Kosoy. The season was capped off with Laurence Kosoy coming home an All-American from Nationals in Virginia. What will be missed most about the 2016 team is the persistence and dedication that they had to Olympic Heights. The team is currently in the club season, lifting weights and working on their skills on the mat.
