Each group must match the sports and the definitions. The first group to finish with correct matches wins.  Elicit the sports events and their definitions and correct as necessary. 2. Reading comprehen- sion Worksheet 2  The students work in pairs.  Distribute Worksheet 2 (one per student).  They read the passage and ask each other the questions in Exercise 1.  Elicit the answers.  Go through the passage and make sure everyone understands it.  Ask the students to complete Exercise 2.  Elicit the questions and correct as necessary.  Answers Exercise 1: 1. • Before class, cut Worksheet 3 into 5 cards.• Keep the teacher’s BINGO card for yourself.• The students work in five groups.• Explain BINGO. You will call a word. If the word

is on one of the cards they must tick it off.• As soon as they have enough words they can

make a complete sentence. They must add theword ‘I’.

• When they have a complete sentence thegroup shouts, ‘Bingo!’

Stop the class and elicit the sentence. If thesentence is correct the group WINS 1 point per word. If wrong, they LOSE 1 point per word.

• Continue until all the words on the teacher’ssheet are used up.

• The groups calculate. Whoever has the mostpoints wins the game.

Ideas for collaborating

• The students work together as a group.• Distribute Worksheet 4.•

They compile a table on the board of their favourite sports.

• They can do this for their class, their institutionor for a group of institutions.

• They compile a list of the top ten sports for thearea, using the results of all the schools in thesurvey.

• Share the table with regional and overseasschools.
