So here we finally are. The end of another year. The beginning of a new adventure for the year ahead.

2016 has been impressive in so many ways and challenging in so many others.

Several of our disciplines have delivered good results in 2016. Many have not. IFL has risen to the fore, becoming a shining example of what vision, hard work, resolve and determination can achieve.

IFL will clearly form the cornerstone for our business for many years to come as we strive to broaden the global market acceptance of the product.

In seeking the most effective ways to reach that global community and to thereby establish a rapid and steep growth curve for the product, change is inevitable.

2017 will therefore be another year of challenges, opportunities and change. It will be a year where we see the good things make good progress and new things beginning to come forward as well.

More of the same, many would say, given our historical tendencies.

I would say - Watch this space!

Have a great Christmas break and I very much look forward to seeing you all again in 2017.

My personal thanks to one and all for your efforts during 2016 and those that I’m sure will follow in 2017.

APS Malaysia receives recognition for the successful execution of InField Liner® installations from PETRONAS.

Towards the end of 2015, APS was awarded two multi-year contracts with PETRONAS for the rehabilitation of various subsea crude oil gathering and high pressure gas and condensate lines.

The combined total value of these projects was over US$ 150 million and the proposed scope of works surround the company’s 6, 8 and 10-inch subsea crude oil gathering and high-pressure gas and condensate lines, varying between 700 and 3500 meters in length.

The execution of these pipeline rehabilitation projects commenced during the course of 2016 with 4 pipelines rehabilitated with the InField Liner® (IFL) system during the spring and summer of this year. In December 2016, during an official award ceremony, PETRONAS recognized APS Malaysia’s project execution team for the 2016 successful installation campaign of IFL. All 4 pipelines were in fact candidate for potential shut down at the end of 2016; however with the installation of the IFL system each pipeline was given a service life extension of a minimum of 30 years. PETRONAS further confirmed that the IFL system, had saved the company in excess of 100 million US$, since its first installations back in September 2013, in terms of CAPEX and OPEX expenditure, thereby recognizing the IFL system as one of the most valuable technology innovations in the history of the operator.

To celebrate this fantastic news a press release was send out to numerous publication houses around the globe. The press release was already published by World Pipelines, Pipelines International and Offshore Magazine. Many more publications are to follow.

APS Malaysia has conducted OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001:2015 Awareness Training on 6th and 7th December 2016 at APS Office, Kuala Lumpur. The main objective was to help staff understand the requirement of OHSAS 18001:2007 Management Systems and ISO 14001:2015 Standard.

Rubber Lining is normally specified when both good chemical resistance and excellent abrasion resistance is required simultaneously. Rubber Lining (or coating) is an application method used to protect multiple types of structures by lining corrosion and abrasion-resistant rubber (or a derivative of) upon the inside of pipes, vessels or tanks.

At APS, Rubber Lining is applied by hand by our experienced applicators, who work tirelessly and diligently to provide the best finished product to our customers. Before the rubber is applied, a thorough blast is required to clean the intended surface, and provide a deep anchor profile in the steel. Adhesive primers are applied, which later will serve as a bonding agent, firmly adhering the materials to the substrate.

After completing the application, the hand lay-up of the rubber system is vulcanized, which converts the rubber polymers into a more durable and robust material. Vulcanized materials are less sticky and offer superior mechanical properties, making them ideal when abrasion resistance is a key factor.

Although curing of rubber has been carried out since prehistoric times, the modern process of vulcanization (names after Vulcan, the Roman God of Fire) was not developed properly until the 19th Century. Today, a vast array of products are available with vulcanized rubber, including tyres, soles of boots, air/water hoses and conveyor belts to name just a few.
