The Olive Tree Community Newsletter ~by Lisa~ July 2010 This is the first quarterly “by Lisa” Newsletter Yes, the Title is in pink… I couldn't resist! It's all in my control… Ha, Ha, Ha! …Ahem, ok, I'm alright… just got a little excited :) It's true. I, Lisa Basile, wife of Joe, will be writing this month's newsletter in its entirety. Joe has been so diligent to produce a newsletter each month letting you all know updates on the Olive Tree Community as well as updates on our family. I am so grateful to him and proud of his dedication in this amazing effort. I have also been so overwhelmed and thankful to you all for your outpouring of support: financially, spiritually, and emotionally! Soooo, out of gratitude to Joe and to you, I asked if I could add my personal touch by writing the newsletter every few months. I hope to share with you from my point of view how blessed we are here in this ministry and to let you know what you can be praying for us about. Where is Joe?? I'm sure a few people will be asking that question this month at the Olive Tree gatherings…though we advertised it quite a bit ;) This month, Joe has decided to take a sabbatical from preaching so that he can work on writing his first book. The Olive Tree Community is excited about this, and sends us off with their blessing. Scott Luebbert is now our Executive Pastor, heading up a lot of jobs at the OTC, and he is leading the community during this month. We have a fantastic team of leaders as well as some exciting dynamic speakers lined up to teach each week. We will be glad to get back to the OTC in August and hear of all the wonderful things God did there while we were gone. What book? If you know Joe, you know that God has blessed him with a very active and visionary mind. Along with ideas for TV shows and movie scripts, Joe has an amazing idea for a book. His idea is based around a lot of his own experiences as well as experiences of others

The Olive Tree Community Newsletter

~by Lisa~

July 2010 This is the first quarterly “by Lisa” Newsletter

Yes, the Title is in pink… I couldn't resist! It's all in my control… Ha, Ha, Ha! …Ahem, ok, I'm alright… just got a little excited :)

It's true.

I'm sure a few people will be asking that question this month at the Olive

Tree gatherings…though we advertised it quite a bit ;) This month, Joe has decided to take a sabbatical from preaching so that he can work on writing his first book.

His idea is based around a lot of his own experiences as well as experiences of others

surrounding the supernatural. By the end of this month, Joe hopes to have written the first three chapters so he can then begin to pitch it to publishers. Please pray for him as he focuses his attention this month on writing this book. Pray that God gives him great insights as well as stamina. Pray that a publisher will pick it up and that through this book people might be able to understand God better.

What are Lisa and the kids doing?

We decided to take this sabbatical in the Midwest. We spent last week in "vacation mode" to start off, seeing Joe's family in Illinois. Then, we drove up to Wisconsin to see my family. Joe is hard at work this week, so the kids and I are spending some much needed time with Grandma and Papa :)

I am excited to see much more family this month. So far we have seen most of Joe's siblings (remember, he's the baby of 10), my step-mom and her family, my grandma, some of our friends, and my siblings. This weekend we will be celebrating my brother, Andy's, 30th birthday with most of my mom's side of the family! Then, later this month we will be headed

to Michigan for my step-brother, Bret's, wedding.

Andy (30!)

Bret and Julie

Bret and Julie have been engaged for a while and were waiting until Julie graduated college and Bret got back from his second tour in Iraq (thank you, Bret!) to get married.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For what?, you ask. For your support! Not only do we feel your prayers and hear your words of encouragement, these last two months we've been so blessed financially as well! I am continually overwhelmed and so, so grateful to you for your generous hearts and your belief in us to carry out God's mission in L.A.! We are seeing a growth in the Olive Tree. More are coming, more are hearing, and more are being transformed! Please continue to support us in whatever means you can so we can continue this mission. Thank you!

First "Kids Only" Open Mic Jade had been asking me for a couple of months why she couldn't go with me to the OTC Open Mic? I would tell her it wasn't for kids and it was too late in the evening. Then she asked me how come the children's ministry doesn't have any events outside of Sunday (I think we should hire her on staff). I thought about it for a while. I thought about picnics and park play-dates, but it

just didn't seem special enough. Then God just gave it to me: a Kids Only Open Mic.

It was perfect! In a town like L.A., I was bound to find talented kids who wanted to perform, right? Well, I was right. We held it at the N.Y. Bagel Co. (same venue we use for the OTC Open Mic). In fact, I chose the same night that the OTC was having the Open Mic… just a bit earlier. I emailed parents at the kids' school (including the principal). I had a great response and in fact the principal at Kenter Canyon took it upon himself to put up one of my fliers on the parent information board! We had a great turn out for our first night ever, 5 kids performed while their peers and parents were the audience. We sure had a lot of comedians :) and a couple of singers. I know as the word spreads, this could be a fantastic outreach event! Parents are always looking for a free event to do with their kids, and in Brentwood many kids go on auditions and want a place to practice their talents in front of people. Please pray for the children's ministry and this outreach event.

Thanks for reading!

Well, I hope I was able to hold your attention as well as Joe, and that I didn't forget anything. :) I will continue the Newsletter with information you might need for giving as well as a celebrity to focus your prayers on. Thanks so much! We love and appreciate you all so much!

SUPPORT UPDATE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS 2010 PRAY God continues to increase Joe's faith…that he will press on as God leads and that neither Joe nor I will worry about the finances. Our prayer was that God gets the OTC Self Sufficient by the end of 2009, and He Did! Praise God!!! Now, please continue to PRAY God gets the OTC stable enough to support a pastor by the end of 2010! He can do it! Money has kept ministers and churches out of this area for years, but we refuse to let it stand in the way of the gospel. PRAY God provides for us. Please consider forwarding this newsletter to all the people in your contacts list at least one time, explaining our mission and need, and maybe God

will move in someone's heart to support God's mission to LA! Please have courage and faith no matter what you do! Thank you for all of your support!
