Established in 1972, Olesinski is renowned for creatingextraordinary yachts.

From founder Bernard Olesinski’s early innovationsincluding the ‘Deep Vee Hull’ and through a stunning array ofdesigns, the company’s pioneering spirit has yielded steadygrowth. One man’s vision is today realised into a multi-disciplinary team of over 20 in a company that attracts some ofthe world’s best designers and naval architects to their studio in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Having built a global reputation for delivering worldclass designs, Olesinski is rightly proud of its industry plauditsincluding among others, the prestigious World Superyacht ofthe Year Award in 2013.

“We’re incredibly proud of our team and honoured thatso many customers have chosen our yachts. While it was25,000 at the last count, we’ll continue to create beautifullydesigned vessels that are both timeless and enduring”, saidJustin Olesinski, Managing Director.

Along with pioneering design, the company enjoys areputation for its unique breadth of expertise – housing threecore technical disciplines and a wealth of experience in onelocation. This enables the creative journey and collaborativeprocess to be made much smoother. A fact on which founderBernard Olesinski elaborates:

“We always felt that the process of designing andbuilding a yacht with so many specialists functioning indifferent, sometimes far-flung locations, made no sense for theclient, nor the design. Early on, we brought together experts inevery discipline here under one roof. It sounds so obvious but at the time it seemed a fairly radical step; the difference it has

made to the streamlined service we offer and the vessels we’vedelivered, has been immeasurable.”

The creation of any Superyacht is a study in balance, tempering design inspiration with the technical rigour of navalarchitectural and structural engineering. When you offercomplete synergy between the three disciplines, consideringeach throughout the process, the final result will be of thehighest quality and truest to both the client’s and designer’svision.

The Olesinski approach has evolved over time. Puttingthe client at the heart of this creative process, the teammethodically identifies and explores every possibility realisingthe client’s vision and transforming their dream into reality.

One of many innovations, Olesinski’s “LiveUpdate”system enables the client to view and evolve elements of thedesign in real time, visualising amendments as they’re made toassess their appeal.

This multi-disciplinary integrated approach byOlesinski’s design teams is underpinned by their unique blend of experience and expertise. Gone is the endless waiting for aresponse from engineers, the continual revision of schedulesand time-consuming tinkering with designs that cannot besafely built. With Olesinski, every drawing you see has alreadybeen evaluated by the experts, so the client can rest assuredeverything that’s presented can be created.

Whether the commission is for a custom-built craft orthe reimaging of an existing vessel, every Olesinski yachtembodies the company’s pioneering spirit of innovation, passion for excellence and the harmonious lines and designs forwhich they’re best known.

OPPOSITEOlesinski’s three simple guidingprinciples remain as true now asthey were back in the day whenBernard first coined them.

Our three guiding principles:

1. Form always follows function in a harmonious whole.Bernard on how his career began: “I started designing

yachts at just 17. I saw some drawings in the office of the shipyard Iwas working in and design became my passion. Once I’dgraduated in Naval Architecture I started my business right away.My first yacht was a 97-footer and, within just a few years we werefortunate to be designing for the discerning all over the world.”

Justin drew his inspiration from an early encounter: “Ifirst discovered Superyachts when I was almost run down byone while windsurfing! Fortunately it was the Eco (now Enigma) — still one of the world’s largest private yachts — andthe sight of her mirrored windows bearing down on me was asinspiring as it was terrifying. She remains a design icon for me to this day.”

2. To design is a true privilege, a journey of transforming dreams into elegant reality.

Justin on the team’s success: “Beyond my personalachievements as a Product Designer, the highlight has beenwinning Superyacht of the Year for the 40m Imperial Princess. It’s the Oscar of the superyacht world and was a huge honourfor the team. Ultimately, bringing a client’s vision to life into abeautiful yacht is where we find our satisfaction and consideran absolute privilege.”

Justin on his own career and design journey: “As a child Iwas always windsurfing or obsessively drawing, so it wasinevitable that I’d join the sector. In order to designworld leadingyachts I set about gaining a holistic understanding of each ofthe industry’s constituent parts.

I believe I am unique in that I have a worked in design, marine finance, brokering, boat-testing and media publications, each playing a vital role in design. Through my relationshipswith owners, shipyards, management companies, brokers, designers and engineers I gained many invaluable insights, which I have used to refine the services we offer.”

3. The simple elegance of good design should mask thecomplexity that goes into achieving it.

Justin on the “Design Journey”: “Every project in ourbusiness is completely different but they all have one thing incommon; the desire to create something extraordinary. Weachieve this is by working collaboratively, with every disciplinerepresented at all stages in the process, and by investing incutting-edge technology. Every facet of the design has to meetthe scope and standards we expect, and each idea we presentto a client has to be both practical and possible as it is. Our“LiveUpdate” system is a tremendous asset, drawing clients tothe studio here in Cowes, and enabling us immediately tofinalise designs that would normally take weeks. Not only doclients enjoy the experience, we’ve yet to meet one thatdoesn’t appreciate the time it saves.”

Justin on the industry: “The superyacht marketcontinues to swiftly evolve. Today’s single biggest challengeis that everybody everyone is seeking innovative ways to speedup the design and build process. Previously industry optionswere limited to either refreshing the interior and exterior design,or waiting for the completion of a new build, taking betweenthree to four years. Today, increasingly, we’re taking existingboats and completely remodelling them to deliver an entirelyrefreshed yacht in a fraction of the time and cost of a new build.

“Into the future, we’ll continue to work as the designers behindPrincess Yachts. It’s a relationship we’ve built up over 40 years andone that we all thoroughly enjoy. It’s given us the freedom todevelop our own aesthetic, best known for clean lines, sleeksilhouettes and considered details. Plus it’s enabled us to createsome award-winning Superyachts, of which we’re extremely proud.

Away from our partnership with Princess Yachts, wehave a number of current Superyacht projects reaching fruition,as well as upcoming commissions, ranging from refits to newbuilds, of between 50 and 80 metres in length.

Keen to foster our long-term collaborations, we continueto build on our excellent relationships with some of the world’sbest shipyards and interior designers. We’re expanding ourstudio and evolving the Olesinski team; we have found somevery exciting talents to join our design, engineering and navalarchitecture departments.

We continue to invest in technology, developing andpossibly patenting new systems that will transform the wayyachts are designed. In addition, we’re continually meetingProject Managers and Interior Designers, as well as discussingall kinds of new projects and possibilities with existing andfuture clients. Watch this space!”
