SEPTEMBER 29T H, 2019 TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY

IN ORDINARY TIME MONEY IS MEANT TO BE USED RIGHTLY.

THOSE WHO LIVE ONLY FOR GAIN AND MAKE MONEY THEIR MASTER WILL NEVER REACH HEAVEN.

St. Dominic Church, B rick, N J

As the month of Septemberquickly comes to a close andOctober slowly rolls in, the fallseason begins to take affect.I find this time of year, personally,to be so beautiful and can offermuch time for reflection of God’s

creation and gifts. God, after all, is the DivineArtist and to appreciate His artwork is to begrateful and appreciate Him.

To love the beauty of nature does not takeaway anything from the love we owe to GodHimself. On the contrary, when we admire thesimple beauty of the changing leaves, a coolbreeze, our quieted shore line and boardwalks—whether we are aware of it or not, we areadmiring God’s own handiwork.

My dear parish family, the love we give toGod’s creation rises to God Himself. Sadly toooften we take for granted the beauty and thepower of God’s world. It is so easy for us to lose sight of the simple pleasures in the world aroundus that God wishes us to take rest in. We mustnever forget that all that splendor and goodnessis granted to us for our comfort and our delight.Indeed how good God is to us!

highest level since World War II. Currently, there are moredeaths by suicide every year in the world than deaths by allthe wars and homicides combined.

Hard to believe – what can we do to help, especiallyour young people. They need our prayers; no prayer goesunanswered and no one is without the need for prayer.

Hope and Healing Ministry

sponsored by the Parish Nurse/Health and Wellness Ministry

*** Special Notice *** Most people are aware of the extremely high incidence of drug and alcohol abuse in the United States today, which has

resulted in a major health crisis. The number of overdoses and deaths are staggering and continue to be on the uprise.

Here at Saint Dominic’s, we the members of the Parish Nurse/Health and Wellness Ministry, together with several very

dedicated members of our parish community, have come together to develop a new ministry to address these major

issues. Thanks to the love and support of our Pastor, Father Brian, we are able to now offer our new ministry, “Hope

and Healing”, whose goal it is to offer support to individuals, their family and friends who are suffering from the disease

of addiction, in a spiritual, open-minded, faith-centered community. “Hope and Healing” respects the highest ethical

standards of confidentiality, anonymity, and support with dignity and respect.

The effects of addiction go far beyond the individual addict from family and friends, to the community at large. But hope

and recovery is possible. Once addiction is understood as a chronic disease, and not a personal failing, stigma and shame

can be replaced with compassion and hope. The Hope and Healing Ministry will offer a culture of acceptance and will

provide additional informational and community resources.

This new ministry will be officially introduced by Father Brian on Saturday, October 5th at the 4:00 p.m. mass, and will

have members of this ministry available during and after all masses on Sunday, October 6th to answer any questions you

might have.

The first meeting of the Hope and Healing Ministry will be held

Wednesday, October 9th at 7:00 PM in the Community Room. For more information, please call Saint Dominic Church at 732-840-1410, ext 236

Please join us so you can learn more about this new ministry.

Please Lend Me Your EarPeople who are grieving have a real need for someone

to listen while they tell their stories. Grief recovery, in

fact, can begin with the telling and re-telling of the

painful experience. Often bereaved persons are trying

to make sense of a sequence of events that led up to the

loss of their loved ones. Hearing themselves recount all

the details can be helpful in putting the pieces of such

painful events together.

Those who want to help a

grieving friend can best do so by learning to listen. The

person who is grieving is not looking so much for answers or solutions, as they are

for a kind, empathic attitude and an “ear to cry on”. Giving advice can be risky

unless you are a professional. Even if you, too, have lost a loved one, your

experience has been an individual one and so is your friend’s experience.

Listening is a true art. It can be of great therapeutic value in any time of crisis.

Anyone can do it -- it takes no special skill or learned technique. It does take a

little patience and a lot of heart. The results can be most rewarding.

Come and experience God’s love and compassion as you meet with people who

are on a similar journey. We have day and evening groups. We will meet for six

weeks and there will be a specific topic for each meeting. Please call 732-840-1410

and let us know which group you plan to attend.
