Tai ChiTai chi—a unique form of “moving meditation”—calms the mind, relaxes the body and strengthens the spirit. The Rise of the Jack O’ LanternsCome see over 5,000 hand-carved Jack O’Lanterns light up the night at one of Long Island’s most treasured locations—Old West-bury Gardens! Did You Know?The Phipps Family in the NewsThe digitalization of historic US newspapers and magazines has made uncovering the past more accessible than ever. Thanksgiving Floral DesignFloral arrangements have graced Westbury House since its com-pletion in 1907. This long–standing tradition makes Old Westbury Gardens the ideal location to study home floral design. Taught by Scott Lucas, Head Grower and Florist for Westbury House, this floral design workshop at the Gardens not only teaches students how to create stunning arrangements, it provides them with life-long skills they can use for personal and professional endeavors.Participants will create a traditional arrangement through the use of a variety of textures and colors. Early Bird WalkGather in the gardens for a stroll to spy fall resident and feeder birds. A wildlife expert from the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center leads the outdoor tour and shares exper-tise on local species. Bring binoculars for a closer look. All ages welcome. Winter Owl ProwlNight owls are invited to hunt garden habitat for nocturnal neighbors. A wildlife expert from Volunteers for Wildlife brings live owls for a meet and greet and later leads the outdoor search. Bring flashlights to guide your way. Following the walk par-ticipants are welcome to visit Westbury House, decorated for Christmas, for cider and cookies and to visit Santa. Giving ThanksChildren’s Basic Etiquette ClassGive thanks for terrific table manners! Learn the essentials of being a considerate guest, including warm greetings, how to set the table, proper passing techniques and more. Get hands-on while sampling light refreshments. For ages 6 and up. Registration required. Group size is limited so register early.Saturday, November 19, 12pm$15, $12 members (includes light refreshments and admission for one adult).

Nanny NightGardens’ volunteers, dressed as nannies from the Edwardian era, provide children an experience of holiday music, activities, games, stories, and a visit with Santa. Most appropriate for ages 3–9 yrs. A members-only event.

Program and Event InformationOld Westbury Gardens reserves the right to change or cancel programs and events. Visit oldwestburygardens.org for any changes.Registration for all events is at oldwestburygardens.org. Where indicated advance registration or tickets are required in order to ensure adequate space or materials. All registrations will be confirmed by email or mail. If you have not received your confirmation 14 days prior to your program’s start date, call 516-333-0048 ext. 301.Refunds must be requested in writing and will be issued only if request-ed at least 14 days prior to the program. A 10% processing fee may be deducted from the refund. No refunds will be issued less than 14 days

before the start of the program. Registrations are processed in the order in which they are received.In the event we receive your registration after a program has filled, you will automatically be placed on a waiting list. You will be notified by phone if/when a space becomes available. We will process your payment at that time.If Old Westbury Gardens cancels the program (e.g., due to rain, instruc-tor’s illness, or insufficient enrollment) you will receive a full refund.If you are unable to attend the program you may contact our office for a receipt, which will enable you to claim your contribution as a tax-de-ductible gift.

Visiting the Gardens

AboutOld Westbury Gardens, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the former country estate of John S. Phipps and his wife Margarita Grace Phipps. Opened to the public in 1959 with the mission of preserving a part of Long Island’s heritage, Old West-bury Gardens is an extraordinary example of a gracious era. Built in 1906 by the English designer George A. Crawley, Westbury House is a magnificent country house reflecting English architec-ture of the late 1600s and early 1700s The house is furnished with fine English antiques and decorative arts and remains virtually intact from the more than 50 years of the family’s residence. The estate includes over 70 acres of landscaped formal and informal gardens. AmenitiesCafe in the Woods is open daily, 11am-3pm, weather permitting in October, and offers outdoor dining with a luncheon menu. A gift shop is located in Westbury House featuring a wide selec-tion of souvenirs, books, and decorative items.

AccessibilityThe first floor of Westbury House is accessible. The unpaved grav-el pathways through the gardens are not wheelchair accessible. Special parking is available for guests with state-issued handicap parking permits. Guests should furnish their own wheelchairs and strollers. Strollers are not permitted in Westbury House.
